    The oxalato complexes of titanium(IV)—I : Mononuclear Ti(OH)2(C2O4)22− in solution

    Molecular weight, electrodialysis and anion exchange measurements between pH 1 and 4 showed that the titanyl oxalate anion is present in solution as mononuclear Ti(OH)2(C2O4)22 units. pH studies of solutions of (NH4)2TiO(C2O4)2·H2O in 0.5 M NaClO4 medium and computer evaluation and simulation by LETAGROP and HALTAFALL showed that the behaviour of such solutions can be simulated by applying stability constants of log β1 = 7.90 ± 0.02 and log β2 = 13.24 ± 0.07, when using hydrolysis constants given by Nazarenko et al.\ud \ud In an attempt to determine the stability constant β2 spectrophotometrically using an exchange method with pyrocatechol, a mixed ligand complex was found with a Ti:pyrocatechol:oxalate ratio of 1 : 1 : 1

    A URL takes requesters from a citation to a destination… provided, of course, the URL is still valid. The current chaotic web is wonderful in its way. However, within this chaotic web, we believe there is a need for a high-quality web of vetted information. The emerging OpenURL standard is the cornerstone of a worldwide web with high-quality links that feature properties such as: •Persistence: Increase the probable lifetime of citations. •Multiplicity: Produce a menu of targeted services for each citation. •Context-Sensitivity: Resolve a citation in a manner appropriate to the user and to the context. To encourage the development of extended-linking services, NISO formed a committee to develop a standard OpenURL syntax. Our immediate goal is to serve the scholarly-information community immediately. However, the OpenURL technique is widely applicable, and we expect to serve many other information communities

    Transition UGent: a bottom-up initiative towards a more sustainable university

    The vibrant think-tank ‘Transition UGent’ engaged over 250 academics, students and people from the university management in suggesting objectives and actions for the Sustainability Policy of Ghent University (Belgium). Founded in 2012, this bottom-up initiative succeeded to place sustainability high on the policy agenda of our university. Through discussions within 9 working groups and using the transition management method, Transition UGent developed system analyses, sustainability visions and transition paths on 9 fields of Ghent University: mobility, energy, food, waste, nature and green, water, art, education and research. At the moment, many visions and ideas find their way into concrete actions and policies. In our presentation we focused on the broad participative process, on the most remarkable structural results (e.g. a formal and ambitious Sustainability Vision and a student-led Sustainability Office) and on recent actions and experiments (e.g. a sustainability assessment on food supply in student restaurants, artistic COP21 activities, ambitious mobility plans, food leftovers projects, an education network on sustainability controversies, a transdisciplinary platform on Sustainable Cities). We concluded with some recommendations and reflections on this transition approach, on the important role of ‘policy entrepreneurs’ and student involvement, on lock-ins and bottlenecks, and on convincing skeptical leaders

    Alternating-Direction Line-Relaxation Methods on Multicomputers

    We study the multicom.puter performance of a three-dimensional Navier–Stokes solver based on alternating-direction line-relaxation methods. We compare several multicomputer implementations, each of which combines a particular line-relaxation method and a particular distributed block-tridiagonal solver. In our experiments, the problem size was determined by resolution requirements of the application. As a result, the granularity of the computations of our study is finer than is customary in the performance analysis of concurrent block-tridiagonal solvers. Our best results were obtained with a modified half-Gauss–Seidel line-relaxation method implemented by means of a new iterative block-tridiagonal solver that is developed here. Most computations were performed on the Intel Touchstone Delta, but we also used the Intel Paragon XP/S, the Parsytec SC-256, and the Fujitsu S-600 for comparison

    The Impact of Complexity, Rate of Change and Information Availability on the Production Planning and Control Structure

    The organizational theory literature argues that the more uncertain the environment, the more likely the firm’s operational decision structure is decentralized. However, it remains unclear which uncertainty dimensions (i.e. complexity, rate of change and lack of information) impacts the production planning and control structure the most given today’s turbulent manufacturing environments. Based on 206 responses from medium sized Dutch discrete parts manufacturing firms, this study retests the impact of these uncertainty dimensions. This study indicates that each dimension of uncertainty affects the production planning and control structure in a different way. In general, complexity, rate of change and lack of information result in a decentralization of the operational planning and control decision structure, but at the same time a centralization of the customer-order processing decision structure.empirical research method;production planning and control structure;structural equations model;uncertainty

    A critical investigation of the epistemological, familial and spiritual invisibility of spiritual black lesbian and bisexual women in the Belgian LGBT rights framework

    This dissertation investigates the epistemological, familial and spiritual invisibility of spiritual Black lesbian and bisexual women in the Belgian LGBT rights framework. By studying the intersection of black female homosexuality and spirituality in the Belgian context, the dissertation contributes to Black lesbian feminism, womanism and the study of Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Trans rights liberation frameworks in the Belgian context. It argues that a one-dimensional focus on sexuality, the law, secularism and citizenship creates intersectional invisibility for spiritual Black lesbian and bisexual women in Belgium. It proposes intersectional normfare as a lens to challenge invisibility in frameworks of liberation. Intersectional normfare draws on intersectionality and lawfare and challenges a one-dimensional focus on sexuality, the law, secularism and citizenship by • Articulating other aspects than the sexuality of spiritual Black lesbian and bisexual women' s intersectional identity that affect their lived experience, • Addressing intersecting norms found in language, culture, history, religion, political ideology and traditions that produce their epistemological, familial and spiritual invisibility based on intersectional identity and how these norms create conflicts ideas of being • Recognising how intersecting levels of norm production reinforce invisibility for spiritual Black lesbian and bisexual women in Belgium. Using a scotoma methodology, the research exposes blind spots in our vision for liberation. A scotoma methodology is a mixed method consisting of literature studies, legal case studies before domestic and European courts, autoethnographic research based on observations and lived experience of the researcher, and information found on websites, newspaper articles, archival material, memoirs, and translation. It relies on the nation of relationality to expose some of the critical issues that remain invisible and perpetuate epistemological, familial, and spiritual invisibility for spiritual Black lesbian and bisexual women across space and time

    Fast and robust anchor calibration in range-based wireless localization

    In this paper we investigate the anchor calibration problem where we want to find the anchor positions when the anchors are not able to range between each other. This is a problem of practical interest because in many systems, the anchors are not connected in a network but are just simple responders to range requests. The proposed calibration method is designed to be fast and simple using only a single range-capable device. For the estimation of the inter-anchor distances, we propose a Total Least Squares estimator as well as a L1 norm estimator. Real life experiments using publicly available hardware validate the proposed calibration technique and show the robustness of the algorithm to non-line-of-sight measurements
