    La criopreservaci贸 茅s la preservaci贸 de la funcionalitat de les c猫l路lules o teixits mitjan莽ant la reducci贸 de la temperatura per sota del punt on les reaccions qu铆miques poden tenir lloc. D'aquesta manera es poden mantenir durant llargs per铆odes de temps mantenint la seva viabilitat, encara que aquesta pot estar compromesa per l'efecte negatiu que causa el descens de temperatura i tamb茅 durant el retorn a la normot猫rmia. 脡s una part essencial de les t猫cniques de reproducci贸 assistida. La criopreservaci贸 de semen facilita en gran mesura la planificaci贸 dels cicles de fecundaci贸 in vitro i la utilitzaci贸 de semen de donant i ha donat lloc a milers de nens nascuts sans, ja que augmenta les taxes d'embar脿s acumulat per punci贸 fol路licular. Actualment els embrions sobrants s贸n criopreservats rutin脿riament en els laboratoris de fecundaci贸 in vitro. Els naixements a partir d'embrions criopreservats representen al voltant del 8 % del total de nens nascuts amb les t猫cniques reproducci贸 assistida. La criopreservaci贸 d'o貌cits i teixit ov脿ric est脿 adquirint un paper protagonista en els 煤ltims anys i est脿 centrant tots els esfor莽os per a l'optimitzaci贸 dels procediments, ja que ofereix grans possibilitats per als pacients que volen preservar la fertilitat.Cryopreservation is the preservation of the viability of cells and tissues by means of temperature reduction of the under the point where chemical reactions take place.     Les c猫l路lules mare embrion脿ries (CME) representen una font potencial de c猫l路lules per a 煤s terap猫utic en algunes malalties produ茂des per la p猫rdua de la funci贸 cel路lular. Normalment, aquestes c猫l路lules procedeixen d'embrions donats per les parelles sotmeses a t猫cniques de reproducci贸 assistida (TRA). Es presenten els resultats obtinguts en el Banc de L铆nies Cel路lulars del Centre de Medicina Regenerativa de Barcelona (CMRB), on s'han descongelat 254 embrions donats per parelles sotmeses al programa de fecundaci贸 in vitro (FIV) de l'Institut Universitari Dexeus. La taxa de superviv猫ncia va ser del 51,9 %. S'han obtingut cinc l铆nies de CME. Tres d'aquestes l铆nies procedeixen d'embrions de mala qualitat i presenten la capacitat d'autorenovaci贸, pluripot猫ncia i diferenciaci贸 caracter铆stiques d'aquestes c猫l路lules. Els embrions de mala qualitat, sovint descartats en els centres de RA, poden ser una font 煤til per a la derivaci贸 de CME.Human embryonic stem cells (hESC) represent a potential source for cell therapy for many degenerative diseases. Usually hESC lines are derived from surplus embryos donated from couples undergoing In Vitro Fertilisation (IVF). We here present the results obtained in the Stem Cell Bank at the Center of Regenerative Medicine in Barcelona. 254 embryos have been thawed. The embryos were donated from couples from the IVF programme at the Institut Universitari Dexeus. The embryo survival rate was 51.9%. Five ESC lines were obtained. Three of these lines came from poor quality embryos. The cell lines present self-renewal, pluripotency, and differentiation properties characteristic of these cells Poor quality embryos, usually discarded in assisted reproduction centres, could be useful for ESC derivation
