Mycobacterium marinum infection in Caviar fishes and fisherman's in a Caspian Sea Province in North of Iran

    No full text
Mycobacterium marinum is the etiologic agent of fish tank granuloma in human. Determination of the fish tank granuloma in Fishermen and Mycobacterium marinum infection in Caviar fishes in Ashorade, in south east Caspian Sea were our objectives. Any suspected lesions in 387 subjects of Fishermen and 113 autopsy samples from gills of fish of Caviar were obtained and culture in Lowenstein Jensen media. The mycobacterial species were determined by conventional biochemical tests. No fish tank granuloma was proved in human, but 11 (9.73%) strains of Mycobacteria were isolated from Caviar fishes, that only 2 strains (1.76%) belong to M. marinum. © 2006 Asian Network for Scientific Information

Development of a new DNA extraction protocol for PFGE typing of Mycobacterium tuberculosis complex.

A modified pulsed-field gel electrophoresis (PFGE) protocol was developed and applied to clinical isolates of Mycobacterium tuberculosis complex to reduce the cost of using lyticase. This protocol reduces the expense of PFGE typing of Mycobacterium tuberculosis complex as it removes the use of lyticase during the spheroplast formation from these bacteri

In Vitro Biocompatibility of Three Orthodontic Composite Resins on Human Oral Fibroblasts

    No full text
Introduction: In orthodontic therapy ,different materials are used and their presence in oral cavity may modify their properties. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the direct and indirect biocompatibility of three orthodontic composite resins on culture of human oral fibroblasts. Methods: This was an interventional experimental study. The biocompatibility of three orthodontic composite resins including two kinds of self cure composite resins(Unite,3M and Fantastic,Zar Dent)and one kind of light cure composite resin (Transbond,3M) were studied. After a releasing period of each material in the culture medium for 20 days, the viability of oral cultivated fibroblasts was compared to negative control(Teflon) and together with MTT assay(3-(4,5dimethylthiazolyl-2) -2,5-diphenyltetrazolium bromide). In order to evaluate the direct biocompatibility, after direct contacting of composite resins with cell culture ,the viability of oral cells was evaluated with invert phase contrast microscope. Results: The results of MTT assay showed the biocompatibility of light cure composite (P.V=0.114) In comparison to control group. There were significant differences between biocompatibility of self cure composite resins and control group(P.V=0.029). On the other hand, significant statistical difference was not seen between biocompatibility of three composites. The results of direct method showed grade 0 for light cure composite, grade1 for fantastic and grade 2 for unite( 3M) . Conclusion: This study suggested that under these experimental conditions, chemically cured(no-mix) composite resins were more cytotoxic than light cured ones in both direct and indirect methods. Further investigations into the influence of the modes of polymerization and biologic effects of primers on cytotoxic effect and animal studies are warranted to verify its clinical implication

Investigation of the viscoelastic flow and species diffusion in a porous channel with high permeability

    Get PDF
In this study, effect of mass transfer on laminar flow of viscoelastic fluid in a porous channel with high permeability medium is investigated. The viscoelastic model used in this work is the upper convected Maxwell (UCM) model. Applying the similarity transformation, the governing partial equations are converted to ordinary differential equations. The problem is studied by a hybrid technique based on Differential Transformation Method (DTM) and iterative Newton’s method (INM). Also a numerical solution is done to validate the present analytical method. The effects of active parameters such as Darcy number (Da), transpiration Reynolds number (ReT) Deborah number (De) and Schmidt number (Sc) on the both velocity components and concentration function are discussed in this work. The results indicate that the stream function increases for large Deborah and Darcy numbers. The axial velocity is initially decreased by increasing the Deborah number but then increased while approaching the upper channel wall

Psychosocial and Individual Characteristics and Musculoskeletal Complaints Among Clinical Laboratory Workers

    No full text
Musculoskeletal disorders (MSDs) are an important health problem among healthcare workers, including clinical laboratory ones. The aim of the present study was to investigate the prevalence of MSDs and individual and psychosocial risk factors among clinical laboratory workers. A cross-sectional study was carried out among 156 workers of 30 clinical laboratories in 3 towns of Iran. The Nordic questionnaire with individual and psychosocial risk factors was used to collect data. Multiple logistic regression analysis was performed. The prevalence of reported MSDs among the study population was 72.4% in the past 12 months. The most prevalent MSDs were pain in the lower back and neck; 42.7% and 33.3%, respectively. Significant relations were found between MSDs and age, gender, heavy work at home and job control (p < .05). MSDs among laboratory workers were high and associated with age, gender, heavy work at home and job control. More research into measuring these factors and workplace physical demands is suggested
