    ALL ABOUT YOGA

    Get PDF
Yoga is considered as one of the methods which could transform the mind and the body of an individual. It is practiced in India form the Pre-Vedic times. Now a days Yoga is regarded as the alternative therapy for several diseases. Despite the fact that people know yoga, it is still not familiar with certain sectors of the population. The aim of the present article is to conduct a survey and analyze the understanding of people on yoga

PELARGONDIN - A POTENTIAL CURE TO CANCER

    Get PDF
Cancer is one of the main causes of death in the present day and causes the second largest death  next to cardiovascular. There are many naturally available medicines to cure cancers. One such plant constituent is the Anthocyanins. These are the flavonoid groups of plant pigments which give red , blue and purple colours. There are 10 known substituents of Anthocyanins. The present investigation aims at screening the best substituent for hDHFR, a potential cancer drug. Key words: Anthocyanins, hDHFR, Natural Cancer drugs, Anthocyanin Substituents

Application of brassinolide mitigates saline stress of certain metabolites of sorghum grown in Karaikal

    Get PDF
Effect of brassinolide on the metabolite contents (free proline, soluble proteins and RNA) of two sorghum varieties (‘CSH-5’ and ‘CSH-6’) grown in two saline experimental sites of Karaikal viz. Varchikudy and Mallavur, was studied. Brassinolide application resulted in substantial elevated levels of free proline, soluble proteins and RNA of the two varieties of sorghum plants grown in two saline experimental sites of Karaikal. The study revealed that brassinolide was more effective in more saline site –II (Mallavur) than less saline site –I (Varchikudy) thus indicating its ability to counteract the negative impact of saline stress.&nbsp

Effect of brassinolide on certain enzymes of sorghum grown in saline soils of Karaikal

    Get PDF
The effect of brassinolide on the activities of certain enzymes like IAA oxidase, protease and ribonuclease of two sorghum varieties (‘CSH-5’ and ‘CSH-6’) grown in four saline experimental sites of Karaikal viz. Varchikudy, Pogalam, Kilavur and  Mallavur, was studied. Brassinolide-treatment resulted in lowered IAA oxidase, protease and ribonuclease activities. The study revealed that brassinolide was more effective in lowering the enzyme activities in Mallavur than other saline sites (Pogalam, Kilavur and Varchikudy).Â

Character Extraction and Character Type Identification from Summarised Story Plots

[EN] Identifying the characters from free-form text and understanding the roles and relationships between them is an evolving area of research. They have a wide range of applications, from summarising narrations to understanding the social network from social media tweets, which can help in automation and improve the experience of AI systems like chatbots and much more. The aim of this research is twofold. Firstly, we aim to develop an effective method of extracting characters from a story summary, to develop a set of relevant features, then, using supervised learning algorithms, to identify the character types. Secondly, we aim to examine the efficacy of unsupervised learning algorithms in type identification, as it is challenging to find a dataset with a predetermined list of characters, roles, and relationships that are essential for supervised learning. To do so, we used summary plots of fictional stories to experiment and evaluate our approach. Our character extraction approach successfully improved on the performance reported by existing work, with an average F1-score of 0.86. Supervised learning algorithms successfully identified the character types and achieved an overall average F1-score of 0.94. However, the clustering algorithms identified more than three clusters, indicating that more research is needed to improve their efficacy.Srinivasan, V.; Power, A. (2022). Spontaneous Spinal Epidural Hematoma: A Concise Review

    Get PDF
Spontaneous spinal epidural hematoma (SSEH) is an entity of rarity. It usually has an acute onset presenting to the emergency department with profound neurological deficits. From the term we infer that the blood accumulating in the spinal column is not due to any traumatic cause.During the episode of spontaneous bleeding, there is a positive correlation with increase in the pressures of the epidural space. Replacing myelography and CT scan, MRI has earned the name for being the gold standard for the diagnosis of SSEH. In case of an individual without any classical explanation for developing sudden neurological deficits with excruciating painful symptoms, SSEH should be kept in mind as a potential differential diagnosis. If SSEH is suspected, MRI should be done which is the diagnostic modality of choice.Surgical evacuation of the hematoma and decompression with laminectomy are considered to be the ideal procedures to be performed following the diagnosis.Since SSEH is a dreaded problem causing rapid deterioration it is highly advised to take up the patient for a detailed diagnosis and timely interventional procedures even though the clinical symptomatology remains to be highly unique in different individuals. In this article, we discuss from the literature, the etiology, pathophysiology, diagnosis, treatment protocols and prognostic factors regarding SSEH, a disease of low incidence yet a high mortality, demanding a detailed discussion and awareness among the medical professionals. &nbsp

Life style Medicine to improve Physical and Psychological well-being

The brain does not work in a fixed state and it has no fixed memory or intelligence that is present from birth. It is in a constant state of fluctuation. The positives and negatives can be clearly determined regarding a situation with increased insight when our mind is at peace. One of the probable reasons for the increase in cognitive disorders is extreme pressure, stress or shock. In this article, we bring about the effective and scientifically proven methodologies with which the physical and psychological well-being can be improved. This not only brings about betterment within ourselves but also directs our personal and professional life towards achieving the goals as per our wishes. &nbsp

Preeclampsia: A Plausile Playground for Stroke During Pregnancy and Puerperium

    Get PDF
Preeclampsia is emerging as a serious, threatening problem during pregnancy and puerperium. Stroke which is a neurological emergency is becoming a distressing debilitating reason for the disability and morbidity among reproductive age group women.Across the globe, studies have delineated the fact that women are at a higher risk for developing stroke in comparison with men as well as higher mortality rates. Most strokes occurring in relation to pregnancy, either manifest during labor and delivery or in the puerperium phase. In this article we outline the importance in understanding the correlation between preeclampsia and stroke, the inter relational factors favoring its development and the positive effects of diagnosing the etiological factor at an earlier stage with good diagnostic modalities and treating accordingly in a timely manner with an individualized approach, taking into consideration the possible side effects without compromising the maternal and fetal health which is of prime importance

Effect of alkali treatment on physical properties of banana fibre

    Get PDF
459-465Banana fibres have been treated with NaOH at 10, 15 and 20% concentrations and its effect on chemical composition, and physical, morphological, structural and thermal properties are studied. The raw and alkali-treated fibres have been investigated for diameter, density, moisture regain, colour, surface characteristics, functional groups analysis, crystallinity of fibres and thermal behavior. The treated fibres show improvement in cellulose content, lignin removal, tenacity, crystallinity, and thermal resistance till 10% concentration, and after that no improvement is observed beyond 15%. Colour has turned the fibre towards darker side slightly aesthetically unappealing. It is noted that the 15% NaOH concentration is optimum for treating banana fibres used as reinforcement
