To help better explore the potential implications associated with the proposed legislation, we conducted a survey of 919 WA television viewers drawing from our TV Panel of 3000 viewers. Our panel has been recruited from a variety of sources including through lists acquired through marketing research firms, as well as direct mail and newspaper advertising recruitment drives. In many ways, our panel is better informed regarding future possibilities because they participate in regular studies where such scenarios are tested. In this way, the panel is better positioned to understand potential futures

Crime Pattern Detection Using Data Mining

    Get PDF
Can crimes be modeled as data mining problems? We will try to answer this question in this paper. Crimes are a social nuisance and cost our society dearly in several ways. Any research that can help in solving crimes faster will pay for itself. Here we look at use of clustering algorithm for a data mining approach to help detect the crimes patterns and speed up the process of solving crime. We will look at k-means clustering with some enhancements to aid in the process of identification of crime patterns. We will apply these techniques to real crime data from a sheriff’s office and validate our results. We also use semi-supervised learning technique here for knowledge discovery from the crime records and to help increase the predictive accuracy. We also developed a weighting scheme for attributes here to deal with limitations of various out of the box clustering tools and techniques. This easy to implement machine learning framework works with the geo-spatial plot of crime and helps to improve the productivity of the detectives and other law enforcement officers. It can also be applied for counter terrorism for homeland security

A comparison of three interactive television AD formats

This study explores the effects of interacting with three current interactive television (iTV) ad formats, using an Australian audience panel. Interaction with iTV ads has positive effects on awareness and net positive thoughts, which increase purchase intentions compared with the influence of regular ads. The telescopic format represents the best format, likely because it makes the most of the entertaining possibilities of iTV by offering additional long-form video; its superior performance cannot be explained readily by self-selection effects. The results suggest that the effectiveness of iTV ads should be measured by their interaction rate rather than the much smaller response rate, and iTV advertisers should consider ways to maximize interaction and response rates

Country differences in technology experience: The effect of teletext on iTV adoption in the United Kingdom

This study found that participant’s previous teletext experience and previous iTV experience influenced their openness towards using interactive television in planning independent longhaul holidays. The study surveyed participants for their previous interactive media experience (internet, iTV and teletext) before viewing a linear or interactive television destination promotion. Two ad models (impulse and telescopic) were tested from two program formats (travel program segment and ad break in a lifestyle program). These were aired on a video-on-demand network in London (UK) with 164 people out of a total of 375 participating all the way to the final steps of the study. Participants were most experienced with the Internet (mean 6.29 on 1-7scale) and 50% had had experience with an interactive television provider other than the VOD network. 70% had experience with teletext. Overall, participants felt positively towards interactive television as an information source for holiday planning. Those with teletext experience or iTV experience were more open to iTV than those without such experience. Furthermore, actual interaction with the treatment seemed to moderate the previous experience – iTV attractiveness link. This demonstrated that although previous technology experiences can transfer to new media, the actual experience of using the new media is also a powerful factor

Development and Maintenance of Thymic Epithelial Microenvironment

Thymus is a primary lymphoid organ responsible for proper development and selection Of T-‐cells. The thymic microenvironment, however, undergoes age related involution, Resulting in a reduction of the repertoire of T-‐cells that are produced, and a decreased Capacity to respond to new antigen. Even though significant thymic epithelial turnover occurs, it is unclear if postnatal thymic progenitors/stem cell are responsible for the maintenance of the TEC microenvironment. Here we use the K5rtTA:TetO-‐H2BGFP transgenic model to identify a slow cycling potential stem cells/progenitor population in the postnatal thymus. These cells were isolated, expanded in culture, and successfully differentiated into adipocytes, chondrocytes and osteoblasts. We identified that the culture expanded LRCs expressed the surface makers PDGFRα, PDGFRÎČ, SCA1, CD29, CD44, CD49f, and CD90 identical to markers Used to characterize mesenchymal stem cells. LRC were isolated and maintained As a thymic mesenchymal stem cell line (TMSC), which showed a limited Capability for forming a reaggregated thymus when combined with fetal epithelium. Dexamethasone treatment of the mouse resulted in depletion of the label as the Thymus recovered from drug induced involution, suggesting that LRC are recruited During thymic regeneration. Collectively these results demonstrate we have identified A stem cell population in the postnatal thymus that may play a role in the maintenance Of the thymic architecture

Sarcoidosis and autoimmune disorders. A case report and review of the literature

    Get PDF
Sarcoidosis is a multisystem disease of unknown etiology characterized by clusters of non-necrotizing granulomas and distortion of surrounding tissue. Although some patients are asymptomatic, sarcoidosis can cause a wide range of signs and symptoms often mimicking autoimmune rheumatologic disorders. Combined sarcoidosis and autoimmune disorders is uncommon as a result of either an University Hospital database analysis and literature review. However, given the high prevalence of autoimmunity in the general population, clinicians should be alerted to correctly diagnose and manage patients suspected to have both sarcoidosis and autoimmune disorders

    Histopathologic Cancer Detection

Early diagnosis of the cancer cells is necessary for making an effective treatment plan and for the health and safety of a patient. Nowadays, doctors usually use a histological grade that pathologists determine by performing a semi-quantitative analysis of the histopathological and cytological features of hematoxylin-eosin (HE) stained histopathological images. This research contributes a potential classification model for cancer prognosis to efficiently utilize the valuable information underlying the HE-stained histopathological images. This work uses the PatchCamelyon benchmark datasets and trains them in a multi-layer perceptron and convolution model to observe the model's performance in terms of precision, Recall, F1 Score, Accuracy, and AUC Score. The evaluation result shows that the baseline convolution model outperforms the baseline MLP model. Also, this paper introduced ResNet50 and InceptionNet models with data augmentation, where ResNet50 is able to beat the state-of-the-art model. Furthermore, the majority vote and concatenation ensemble were evaluated and provided the future direction of using transfer learning and segmentation to understand the specific features.Comment: 5 pages, 5 figures, 2 table
