Propagation studies for the construction of atomic macro-coherence in dense media as a tool to investigate neutrino physics

In this manuscript we review the possibility of inducing large coherence in a macroscopic dense target by using adiabatic techniques. For this purpose we investigate the degradation of the laser pulse through propagation, which was also related to the size of the prepared medium. Our results show that, although adiabatic techniques offer the best alternative in terms of stability against experimental parameters, for very dense media it is necessary to engineer laser-matter interaction in order to minimize laser field degradation. This work has been triggered by the proposal of a new technique, namely Radiative Emission of Neutrino Pairs (RENP), capable of investigating neutrino physics through quantum optics concepts which require the preparation of a macrocoherent state.Comment: 10 pages, 10 figure

A simple approach to synthesize g-C3N4 with high visible light photoactivity for hydrogen production

    Get PDF
Se-modified g-C3N4 was synthesized from sonicated aqueous suspensions of melamine cyanurate and SeO2. The different thermal condensation temperatures in the 500–650 °C range were found to influence the photophysical properties and hydrogen evolution rates. H2 evolution increased dramatically by two orders of magnitude when Pt co-catalyst (1 wt.%) was incorporated, reaching an HER of 75 µmol H2/h

Road construction often cause certain environmental impact, due to: - The big earthmovings required to gain the ideal grade profile. - The extraction of materials from gravels mine or quarries necessary to implement granular stabilizations of poor quality soils. In rural roads the first point have not significant entity, as for the saving cause and for the traffic characteristics, excavation quantities are very short. It is not the case of the second point, as for the great amount of earthwork that this type of stabilization needs, can cause environmental changes of some importance in zones of development of this works. This paper attempt to show present available methods, designed to reduce impact, by means of the usage of techniques and materials that needs not to operate with spoil earths.

The Dietary Intervention of Transgenic Low-Gliadin Wheat Bread in Patients with Non-Celiac Gluten Sensitivity (NCGS) Showed No Differences with Gluten Free Diet (GFD) but Provides Better Gut Microbiota Profile

The study evaluated the symptoms, acceptance, and digestibility of bread made from transgenic low-gliadin wheat, in comparison with gluten free bread, in Non-coeliac gluten sensitivity (NCGS) patients, considering clinical/sensory parameters and gut microbiota composition. This study was performed in two phases of seven days each, comprising a basal phase with gluten free bread and an E82 phase with low-gliadin bread. Gastrointestinal clinical symptoms were evaluated using the Gastrointestinal Symptom Rating Scale (GSRS) questionnaire, and stool samples were collected for gluten immunogenic peptides (GIP) determination and the extraction of gut microbial DNA. For the basal and E82 phases, seven and five patients, respectively, showed undetectable GIPs content. The bacterial 16S rRNA gene V1-V2 hypervariable regions were sequenced using the Illumina MiSeq platform and downstream analysis was done using a Quantitative Insights into Microbial Ecology (QIIME) pipeline. No significant differences in the GSRS questionnaires were observed between the two phases. However, we observed a significantly lower abundance of some gut genera Oscillospira, Dorea, Blautia, Bacteroides, Coprococcus, and Collinsella, and a significantly higher abundance of Roseburia and Faecalibacterium genera during the E82 phase compared with the basal phase. The consumption of low-gliadin bread E82 by NCGS subjects induced potentially positive changes in the gut microbiota composition, increasing the butyrate-producing bacteria and favoring a microbial profile that is suggested to have a key role in the maintenance or improvement of gut permeability.España, MINECO Projects AGL2013-48946-C3-1-R, AGL2013-48946-C and AGL2016-80566-

We develop a Hamilton-Jacobi theory for singular lagrangian systems using the Gotay-Nester-Hinds constraint algorithm. The procedure works even if the system has secondary constraints.Comment: 36 page

Development of Metal Rubber Pads for High Speed Railways

    Get PDF
Polymeric materials (such as thermoplastics, rubbers, polyurethanes, etc.) have been extensively used to manufacture resilient rail pads; plastics, however, suffer from a series of intrinsic limitations since the environmental agents (UV rays, temperature, air humidity, etc.) as well as the compressive fatigue loads negatively affect their mechanical properties. This study proposes the use of a novel solution, the so-called ?metal-rubber? pads, as a reliable alternative to polymer pads. They are made of stainless steel wire, knitted, embossed and cold-pressed down into a mould to achieve the required shape and size. The thorough experimental campaign carried out to validate the metal rubber pads includes the following tests: (i) Static and dynamic stiffness as indicated in EN 13146-9+A1 and EN 13481-2 guidelines respectively. Furthermore, by changing design factors like wire diameter, mesh density and geometrical shape variations, the evolution of stiffness characterization results is analysed. (ii) Corrosion resistance under UNE-EN 13416-5 and UNE-EN ISO 9227 guidelines. Metal rubber performance under these guidelines was compared with six polymeric materials. Four of them are employed in numerous railway lines. Results reveal a good fulfilment of requirements. Despite resulting in relatively higher values than recommended, both static and dynamic stiffness reach a close range to traditionally employed EVA and TPE-M. In the case of fatigue aging, the foremost wearing suffered by metal cushion occurs mainly in the early cycling stages, although the total cumulate damage is also comparable to traditional. Finally, it is found that design factors have a great influence over static and dynamic stiffness. Porosity reduction reveals to be a key factor to improve stiffness towards lower values as recommended in literature

Synthesis of new conjugated mesomeric betaines from alkoxycarbonylazinium salts

    Get PDF
A new series of conjugated mesomeric betaines have been synthesized from the reaction of various aminoheterocycles with 2-methylthio-4-oxo-3-phenylpyrido[2,1-φ][1,2,4]triazinium iodide, itself prepared from 2-ethoxycarbonylpyridinium N-aminide. Some of the heterobetaines and salts obtained have been studied by 1H-NMR, and their structures have been confirmed by X-ray analysis. The crystal structures reveal unexpected complementary stabilizing interactions between some betaines and their salts. We wish to express our thanks to the Comisió Interdepartamental de Reçerca i Innovació Tecnológica (CIRIT) for financial support (Project QFN94-4619) and to the Ministerio de Educación y Ciencia for a grant to one of us (JVM)
