Reel Them In: A Framework for Bridging Underrepresented Students to STEM Majors
The eight-week math-intensive Running Start Summer Bridge program (RSSB) supports and challenges incoming STEM students in their coursework while immersing them on campus life. The current study explores the effectiveness of RSSB in easing students’ transition to college life and the rigorous nature of STEM disciplines. Throughout the program, holistic mentoring and participatory tutoring techniques provided students with academic enrichment opportunities. Central to this initiative is encouraging equity-mindedness and foster community-building practices.
Data presented demonstrate how this innovative initiative increased retention and persistence among underrepresented students in STEM disciplines while fostering a sense of community.
Best practices and assessment for holistic STEM summer bridge programs are included as a model to better retention and student success on different institutions taking in consideration the various factors and circumstances influencing program admission and demographics
Who is a Bennie? Who is a Johnie? An Analysis of Campus Inclusivity
The Hynes Scholars are a group of sophomore CSB students who spend a year engaged in learning and research related to gender and leadership. This year they are conducting research to understand how students and alumni conceptualize the “Bennie” and “Johnnie” identities and how to enhance inclusivity on the campuses of CSB/SJU
Task Analysis of Creating a First Time Resolution Case
Plan BThe purpose of a training needs assessment is to identify performance requirements and the knowledge, skills, and abilities needed by an agency's workforce to achieve and align with set goals and objectives. An effective training needs assessment will help guideresources to areas of greatest demand. This paper examines a method of performing job analysis by analyzingdata from a needs assessment and delivering and providing access to the results of the job analysis by creating a list of job requirements and working conditions for each discrete task of a job. Discussion and listing will include creating a physical demands analysis comprisingofa list of physical requirements of each discrete task of a job, and combining the lists into a job analysis database for determining whether a worker can perform a job and thereby determine the task analysis to create a firsttime resolution case for use

Hmong For Beginners Part I
"Hmong For Beginners" was written by Annie Jaisser and her co-authors from materials they developed in the 1980s when Hmong was first being introduced as a language of instruction for the Southeast Asian Studies Summer Institute (SEASSI). The book was published by the Center for Southeast Asia Studies at UC Berleley in 1995 and is now out of print. This electronic version is intended to make the materials available to those interested in the Hmong language but with limited access to print materials about the language
Hmong Students in Higher Education : Analyzing Perceptions of Success, Family Communication Patterns, and Cultural Identity
Color poster with text, charts, and graphs.Hmong Students in American colleges are consistently learning how to navigate the obstacles of higher education. Hmong Students may experience additional challenges common to those shared by students who have low socioeconomic status, belong to ethnic minorities and/or are first generation college students. Previous research has shown that the quality of relationship and communication between the students with their parents, and cultural identity are influential factors that affect the experiences of first-generation students in higher education. Little attention has been given to how these factors—family communication patterns and cultural identity—may be associated, nor have Hmong students been asked to participate in a definition of what success on the university level means to them. Our study served to answer the following two research questions: RQ1: Are Hmong students' perceptions of success in life in general associated with a.) Family Communication Patterns (FCP) b.) Cultural Identity? RQ2: Are Hmong Students' perceptions of success in college associated with a.) FCP b.) Cultural Identity?University of Wisconsin--Eau Claire Office of Research and Sponsored Program
