    Generation of entangled coherent states via cross phase modulation in a double electromagnetically induced transparency regime

    The generation of an entangled coherent state is one of the most important ingredients of quantum information processing using coherent states. Recently, numerous schemes to achieve this task have been proposed. In order to generate travelling-wave entangled coherent states, cross phase modulation, optimized by optical Kerr effect enhancement in a dense medium in an electromagnetically induced transparency (EIT) regime, seems to be very promising. In this scenario, we propose a fully quantized model of a double-EIT scheme recently proposed [D. Petrosyan and G. Kurizki, {\sl Phys. Rev. A} {\bf 65}, 33833 (2002)]: the quantization step is performed adopting a fully Hamiltonian approach. This allows us to write effective equations of motion for two interacting quantum fields of light that show how the dynamics of one field depends on the photon-number operator of the other. The preparation of a Schr\"odinger cat state, which is a superposition of two distinct coherent states, is briefly exposed. This is based on non-linear interaction via double-EIT of two light fields (initially prepared in coherent states) and on a detection step performed using a 50:5050:50 beam splitter and two photodetectors. In order to show the entanglement of a generated entangled coherent state, we suggest to measure the joint quadrature variance of the field. We show that the entangled coherent states satisfy the sufficient condition for entanglement based on quadrature variance measurement.     Evaluation of alignment of the reimbursement medicines list for children in Albania with the WHO essential medicines list for children

    Background: The WHO Essential Medicine List for Children was released on the 30th anniversary of the general Essential Medicine List in 2007, to recognise special needs for medicines in children, and to promote the inclusion of paediatric medicines in national procurement programmes. This study aimed to investigate the alignment of the medicines included in the Albanian reimbursement medicines list of the Mandatory Healthcare Insurance Fund (AMHIF) and the Essential Medicine List for Children. Methods: A quantitative evaluation was performed to compare the paediatric medicines included in the 2022 list of the AMHIF and the 2021 WHO Essential Medicine List for Children. In addition, vaccines in the Albanian vaccination programmes for children were compared to the ones listed on the WHO Essential Medicine List for Children. Results: Both lists had a total of 284 active ingredients in common, whereas 14 of 24 vaccines were found to be in common in the Essential Medicine List for Children list and the Albanian vaccination programmes. Conclusions: This is the first study in Albania to investigate the alignment of the WHO EMLc and AMHIF list.     Chronic non-specific abdominal complaints in general practice: a prospective study on management, patient health status and course of complaints

    BACKGROUND: While in general practice chronic non-specific abdominal complaints are common, there is insufficient data on the clinical course and the management of these complaints. Aim of this study was to present a primary care based profile of these chronic complaints including health care involvement, health status and clinical course. METHODS: Thirty general practitioners (GPs) and patients from their practices participated in a prospective follow-up study. All patients and GPs were asked to complete questionnaires at baseline and at 6, 12 and 18 months of follow-up. The GPs provided information on diagnostic and therapeutic management and on referral concerning 619 patients with chronic non-specific abdominal complaints, while 291 patients provided information about health status and clinical course of the complaints. RESULTS: When asked after 18 months of follow-up, 51,7% of the patients reported an equal or worsened severity of complaints. General health perception was impaired and patients had high scores on SCL-anxiety and SCL-depression scales. Diagnostic tests other than physical examination and laboratory tests were not frequently used. Medication was the most frequent type of treatment. The persistence of chronic non-specific abdominal complaints was quite stable. CONCLUSION: Once non-specific chronic abdominal complaints have become labelled as chronic by the attending physician, little improvement can be expected. The impact on patients' physiological and psychological well-being is large. GPs use a variety of diagnostic and therapeutic strategies. Research into the evidence base of currently applied management strategies is recommended

    <i>C-elegans</i> model identifies genetic modifiers of alpha-synuclein inclusion formation during aging

    Inclusions in the brain containing alpha-synuclein are the pathological hallmark of Parkinson's disease, but how these inclusions are formed and how this links to disease is poorly understood. We have developed a &lt;i&gt;C-elegans&lt;/i&gt; model that makes it possible to monitor, in living animals, the formation of alpha-synuclein inclusions. In worms of old age, inclusions contain aggregated alpha-synuclein, resembling a critical pathological feature. We used genome-wide RNA interference to identify processes involved in inclusion formation, and identified 80 genes that, when knocked down, resulted in a premature increase in the number of inclusions. Quality control and vesicle-trafficking genes expressed in the ER/Golgi complex and vesicular compartments were overrepresented, indicating a specific role for these processes in alpha-synuclein inclusion formation. Suppressors include aging-associated genes, such as sir-2.1/SIRT1 and lagr-1/LASS2. Altogether, our data suggest a link between alpha-synuclein inclusion formation and cellular aging, likely through an endomembrane-related mechanism. The processes and genes identified here present a framework for further study of the disease mechanism and provide candidate susceptibility genes and drug targets for Parkinson's disease and other alpha-synuclein related disorders

Yet typologies of integrated care mainly describe how patients fit within integrated services, rather than how services fit into the patient's world. Patient-centeredness has been commonly defined through physician's behaviors aimed at delivering patient-centered care.     Patient-reported daily functioning after SARS-CoV-2 vaccinations in autoimmune neuromuscular diseases

    Background and purpose: There are concerns for safety regarding SARS-CoV-2 vaccines for patients with autoimmune neuromuscular disease. We compared daily functioning using disease-specific patient-reported outcome measures (PROMs) before and after SARS-CoV-2 vaccinations. Methods: In this substudy of a prospective observational cohort study (Target-to-B!), patients with myasthenia gravis (MG), chronic inflammatory demyelinating polyneuropathy (CIDP), multifocal motor neuropathy (MMN), and idiopathic inflammatory myopathy (IIM) vaccinated against SARS-CoV-2 were included. Surveys of daily functioning (Myasthenia Gravis Activities of Daily Living, Inflammatory Rasch-Built Overall Disability Scale, Multifocal Motor Neuropathy Rasch-Built Overall Disability Scale, and Health Assessment Questionnaire-Disability Index) were sent before first vaccination and every 60 days thereafter for up to 12 months. Regression models were constructed to assess differences in PROM scores related to vaccination, compared to scores unrelated to vaccination. We also assessed the proportion of patients with deterioration of at least the minimal clinically important difference (MCID) between before first vaccination and 60 days thereafter. Results: We included 325 patients (median age = 59 years, interquartile range = 47-67, 156 [48%] female sex), of whom 137 (42%) had MG, 79 (24%) had CIDP, 43 (13%) had MMN, and 66 (20%) had IIM. PROM scores related to vaccination did not differ from scores unrelated to vaccination. In paired PROMs, MCID for deterioration was observed in three of 49 (6%) MG patients, of whom none reported a treatment change. In CIDP, MCID for deterioration was observed in eight of 29 patients (28%), of whom two of eight (25%) reported a treatment change. Conclusions: SARS-CoV-2 vaccination had no effect on daily functioning in patients with autoimmune neuromuscular diseases, confirming its safety in these patients

    CP-odd A^0 production at e^+e^- colliders in MSSM with CP violating phases

    We study the production of a heavy CP-odd A0A^0 boson in association with a photon e+eA0γe^+e^-\to A^0\gamma and a Z boson e+eA0Ze^+e^-\to A^0 Z as well as the single production of A0A^0 via e+eνeνˉeA0e^+e^- \to \nu_e\bar{\nu}_e A^0 in the MSSM with CP violating phases. In the case of e+eA0γ/A0Ze^+e^-\to A^0\gamma / A^0 Z, we show that the squark contribution, which vanishes in the MSSM with real parameters, turns out to be sizeable in presence of CP violating phases in the soft SUSY parameters. For e+eνeνˉeA0e^+e^- \to \nu_e \bar{\nu}_e A^0 in both the 2HDM and MSSM with real parameters, the cross section does not reach observable rates at a NLC. It is found that with a large CP violating phase for AtA_t, cross sections of the order 0.1 fb are attainable for all the processes e+eA0γe^+e^-\to A^0\gamma, e+eA0Ze^+e^-\to A^0 Z and e+eνeνˉeA0e^+e^- \to \nu_e \bar{\nu}_e A^0.Comment: 12 pages, latex, 7 eps figures.
