Dust masses of disks around 8 Brown Dwarfs and Very Low-Mass Stars in Upper Sco OB1 and Ophiuchus
We present the results of ALMA band 7 observations of dust and CO gas in the
disks around 7 objects with spectral types ranging between M5.5 and M7.5 in
Upper Scorpius OB1, and one M3 star in Ophiuchus. We detect unresolved
continuum emission in all but one source, and the CO J=3-2 line in two
sources. We constrain the dust and gas content of these systems using a grid of
models calculated with the radiative transfer code MCFOST, and find disk dust
masses between 0.1 and 1 M, suggesting that the stellar mass / disk
mass correlation can be extrapolated for brown dwarfs with masses as low as
0.05 M. The one disk in Upper Sco in which we detect CO emission, 2MASS
J15555600, is also the disk with warmest inner disk as traced by its H - [4.5]
photometric color. Using our radiative transfer grid, we extend the correlation
between stellar luminosity and mass-averaged disk dust temperature originally
derived for stellar mass objects to the brown dwarf regime to , applicable to spectral types
of M5 and later. This is slightly shallower than the relation for earlier
spectral type objects and yields warmer low-mass disks. The two prescriptions
cross at 0.27 L, corresponding to masses between 0.1 and 0.2 M

Joint Information and Jamming Beamforming for Secrecy Rate Maximization in Cognitive Radio Networks
In this paper, we consider the secure beamforming design for an underlay cognitive radio multiple-input singleoutput broadcast channel in the presence of multiple passive eavesdroppers. Our goal is to design a jamming noise (JN) transmit strategy to maximize the secrecy rate of the secondary system. By utilizing the zero-forcing method to eliminate the interference caused by JN to the secondary user, we study the joint optimization of the information and JN beamforming for secrecy rate maximization of the secondary system while satisfying all the interference power constraints at the primary users, as well as the per-antenna power constraint at the secondary transmitter. For an optimal beamforming design, the original problem is a nonconvex program, which can be reformulated as a convex program by applying the rank relaxation method. To this end, we prove that the rank relaxation is tight and propose a barrier interior-point method to solve the resulting saddle point problem based on a duality result. To find the global optimal solution, we transform the considered problem into an unconstrained optimization problem. We then employ Broyden-Fletcher-Goldfarb-Shanno (BFGS) method to solve the resulting unconstrained problem which helps reduce the complexity significantly, compared to conventional methods. Simulation results show the fast convergence of the proposed algorithm and substantial performance improvements over existing approaches
Prevalence of gestational diabetes mellitus in eastern and southeastern Asia: A systematic review and meta-analysis

Aim. To review the prevalence of gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM) in Eastern and Southeastern Asia. Methods. We systematically searched for observational studies on GDM prevalence from January 2000 to December 2016. Inclusion criteria were original English papers, with full texts published in peer-reviewed journals. The quality of included studies was evaluated using the guidelines of the National Health and Medical Research Council, Australia. Fixed effects and random effects models were used to estimate the summary prevalence of GDM and the corresponding 95% confidence intervals (CI). Results. A total of 4415 papers were screened, and 48 studies with 63 GDM prevalence observations were included in the final review. The pooled prevalence of GDM was 10.1% (95% CI: 6.5%–15.7%), despite substantial variations across nations. The prevalence of GDM in lower- or upper-middle income countries was about 64% higher than in their high-income counterparts. Moreover, the one-step screening method was twice more likely to be used in diagnosing GDM when compared to the two-step screening procedure. Conclusions. The prevalence of GDM in Eastern and Southeastern Asia was high and varied among and within countries. There is a need for international uniformity in screening strategies and diagnostic criteria for GDM

Low dietary intakes of essential nutrients during pregnancy in Vietnam
Inadequate intake of nutrients during pregnancy has been associated with poor pregnancy and infant outcomes; however, evidence remains limited in low-resource settings in Asia. This paper assessed food, macronutrient, and micronutrient intakes among 1944 Vietnamese pregnant women. Dietary information was collected via an interviewer-administered food frequency questionnaire, and nutrient intakes were estimated using the Vietnamese food composition tables. The levels of nutrient intakes were evaluated against the Vietnamese recommended nutrient intakes (RNI) for pregnancy. The diet profiles were reported as means and percentages. The average daily food intakes across socio-demographic factors were compared using ANOVA, with adjustment for multiple comparisons by the Tukey–Kramer test. Rice, fruits, and vegetables were the main food sources consumed. The mean energy intake was 2004 kcal/day with 15.9%, 31.8%, and 52.2% of energy deriving from proteins, fats, and carbohydrates, respectively. Just over half of the women did not meet the RNI for total energy intake. The intakes of essential micronutrients including folate, calcium, iron, and zinc were below the RNI, and almost all pregnant women failed to meet the recommendations for these micronutrients. The associations of maternal age, education, and pre-pregnancy body mass index with nutrient intakes varied across the nutrient subgroups. Targeted programs are needed to improve nutrient intakes in Vietnamese pregnant women
The Taurus Boundary of Stellar/Substellar (TBOSS) Survey II. Disk Masses from ALMA Continuum Observations
We report 885m ALMA continuum flux densities for 24 Taurus members
spanning the stellar/substellar boundary, with spectral types from M4 to M7.75.
Of the 24 systems, 22 are detected at levels ranging from 1.0-55.6 mJy. The two
non-detections are transition disks, though other transition disks in the
sample are detected. Converting ALMA continuum measurements to masses using
standard scaling laws and radiative transfer modeling yields dust mass
estimates ranging from 0.3-20M. The dust mass shows a
declining trend with central object mass when combined with results from
submillimeter surveys of more massive Taurus members. The substellar disks
appear as part of a continuous sequence and not a distinct population. Compared
to older Upper Sco members with similar masses across the substellar limit, the
Taurus disks are brighter and more massive. Both Taurus and Upper Sco
populations are consistent with an approximately linear relationship in
to , although derived power-law slopes depend strongly
upon choices of stellar evolutionary model and dust temperature relation. The
median disk around early M-stars in Taurus contains a comparable amount of mass
in small solids as the average amount of heavy elements in Kepler planetary
systems on short-period orbits around M-dwarf stars, with an order of magnitude
spread in disk dust mass about the median value. Assuming a gas:dust ratio of
100:1, only a small number of low-mass stars and brown dwarfs have a total disk
mass amenable to giant planet formation, consistent with the low frequency of

The XIIIth Banff Conference on Allograft Pathology: The Banff 2015 Heart Meeting Report: Improving Antibody-Mediated Rejection Diagnostics: Strengths, Unmet Needs, and Future Directions.
The 13th Banff Conference on Allograft Pathology was held in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada from October 5 to 10, 2015. The cardiac session was devoted to current diagnostic issues in heart transplantation with a focus on antibody-mediated rejection (AMR) and small vessel arteriopathy. Specific topics included the strengths and limitations of the current rejection grading system, the central role of microvascular injury in AMR and approaches to semiquantitative assessment of histopathologic and immunophenotypic indicators, the role of AMR in the development of cardiac allograft vasculopathy, the important role of serologic antibody detection in the management of transplant recipients, and the potential application of new molecular approaches to the elucidation of the pathophysiology of AMR and potential for improving the current diagnostic system. Herein we summarize the key points from the presentations, the comprehensive, open and wide-ranging multidisciplinary discussion that was generated, and considerations for future endeavors
Development of a nested quantitative real-time PCR for detecting Phytophthora cinnamomi in Persea americana rootstocks
Phytophthora cinnamomi causes Phytophthora root rot (PRR) in avocado (Persea americana), an
important disease that causes severe economic losses to the avocado industry globally. To date,no PRR-resistant avocado rootstock variety has been discovered, although certain rootstock varieties have been shown to be more tolerant than others. In this study we developed an accurate, low cost assay for in planta quantification of P. cinnamomi to evaluate disease tolerance. A nested real time PCR assay was developed to sensitively detect pathogen DNA in plant tissues. Root samples from a highly tolerant (Dusa®) and less tolerant (R0.12) rootstock were collected at 0, 3, 7, 14 and 21 days after inoculation with P. cinnamomi and used for pathogen quantification. Nested primers developed in this study were specific and sensitive and could detect P. cinnamomi in root tissues. The amount of P. cinnamomi quantified in roots was
significantly higher in the less tolerant R0.12 plants when compared to the highly tolerant Dusa® plants at all time points. This study has confirmed the known status of disease tolerance of Dusa® and R0.12 avocado rootstocks in a quantitative manner and provides a reliable molecular tool to assist with industry breeding programs for the selection of PRR-resistant avocado rootstock varieties.The Hans Merensky Foundation and the THRIP programme of the National Research Foundation of South Africa.http://www.apsnet.org/hb201
