    Studentsʼ Perceptions of Keeping a Language Learner Journal

    Reasons for keeping a diary in a foreign language are numerous. For some, it is a tool for developing vocabulary. You look up words that you need in order to express yourself. Getting into the habit of writing routinely increases one’s contact time with a foreign language and can help maintain one’s language level. Additionally, keeping a diary in a FL is an opportunity for self-reflection and reviewing events that have happened.This study reports on the findings of a questionnaire given to 17 Japanese university students (14 females, 3 males) at the end of a 15-week course. The topic of the questionnaire was about the usefulness of keeping a diary in English. The author intended to collect information on students’ language learning strategies, but the questionnaire results reported that student’s found diaries useful for writing practice and recalling lesson content

    This paper summarizes some of the literature available on language learning strategies and what a good language learner is thought to be. The study then reports on the case of a native English speaker learning French as her second foreign language in order to ascertain 1) what language learning strategies, if any, are being used for overcoming a particular problem. 2) whether the learner\u27s strategies use matches the profile of a “good language learner." Rebecca Oxford\u27s (1990) Strategy Inventory for Language Learning (SILL) and an interview were used to collect data. Results from the data collected showed that while she did employ many strategies such as risk-taking, attending to form and meaning, she was under-using strategies related to management of emotions such as frustration

By looking at the characteristics and objectives of each teaching methodology, we can see the expected roles of the teacher and learner, and how their roles have evolved over time

    Exploring My Style of Teacher Supervision

    publisher多摩This is a report on a pilot study regarding language teacher supervision styles. The author holds a certificate in language program administration, and the pilot involved teachers of the Japanese language one of whom was also involved in the certificate program. The teachers teach at an American language institute and they agreed to be observed by the author, following procedures detailed in clinical supervision. After the lesson observation, a one-on-one conference was held with the author and the observed language teacher to discuss the lesson. This report focuses on the supervisory discourse during these conferences.
