An Empirical Study on Collaborative Architecture Decision Making in Software Teams
Architecture decision making is considered one of the most challenging
cognitive tasks in software development. The objective of this study is to
explore the state of the practice of architecture decision making in software
teams, including the role of the architect and the associated challenges. An
exploratory case study was conducted in a large software company in Europe and
fifteen software architects were interviewed as the primary method of data
collection. The results reveal that the majority of software teams make
architecture decisions collaboratively. Especially, the consultative decision-
making style is preferred as it helps to make decisions efficiently while
taking the opinions of the team members into consideration. It is observed that
most of the software architects maintain a close relationship with the software
teams. Several organisational, process and human related challenges and their
impact on architecture decision-making are also identified
A Prospective Randomized Controlled Trial of the Effects of Vitamin D Supplementation on Cardiovascular Disease Risk
Vitamin D (VitD) supplementation has been advocated for cardiovascular risk reduction; however, supporting data are sparse. The objective of this study was to determine whether VitD supplementation reduces cardiovascular risk. Subjects in this prospective, randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled trial of post-menopausal women with serum 25-hydroxyvitamin D concentrations >10 and <60 ng/mL were randomized to Vitamin D3 2500 IU or placebo, daily for 4 months. Primary endpoints were changes in brachial artery flow-mediated vasodilation (FMD), carotid-femoral pulse wave velocity (PWV), and aortic augmentation index (AIx). The 114 subjects were mean (standard deviation) 63.9 (3.0) years old with a 25-hydroxyvitamin D level of 31.3 (10.6) ng/mL. Low VitD (<30 ng/mL) was present in 47% and was associated with higher body-mass index, systolic blood pressure, glucose, CRP, and lower FMD (all p<0.05). After 4 months, 25-hydroxyvitamin D levels increased by 15.7 (9.3) ng/mL on vitamin D3 vs. −0.2 (6.1) ng/mL on placebo (p<0.001). There were no significant differences between groups in changes in FMD (0.3 [3.4] vs. 0.3 [2.6] %, p = 0.77), PWV (0.00 [1.06] vs. 0.05 [0.92] m/s, p = 0.65), AIx (2.7 [6.3] vs. 0.9 [5.6] %, p = 0.10), or CRP (0.3 [1.9] vs. 0.3 [4.2] mg/L, p = 0.97). Multivariable models showed no significant interactions between treatment group and low VitD status (<30 ng/mL) for changes in FMD (p = 0.65), PWV (p = 0.93), AIx (p = 0.97), or CRP (p = 0.26).In conclusion, VitD supplementation did not improve endothelial function, arterial stiffness, or inflammation. These observations do not support use of VitD supplementation to reduce cardiovascular disease risk
Osteolytic bone lesions – A rare presentation of AML M6.
Acute myeloid leukemia (AML) M6 is a rare form of AML accounting  for < 5 % of all AML. Extramedullary involvement is very rarely seen in this entity. Skeletal lesion has not been described in AML M6 before. We discuss the case of a 17 year old boy with AML M6 who presented with osteolytic lesion of right humerus. He was treated with induction and consolidation chemotherapy. The present case is the first report in literature of AML M6 presenting with skeletal lesions

The seminal proteins and enzymes are vital for ejaculate metabolism, spermatozoa performance,
survival, and transport within the feminine reproductive tract. Proteases and proteinase inhibitors
are secreted by the accessory sex glands of the male reproductive tract and find mixed with the
spermatozoa throughout ejaculation. But an entire understanding of those enzymes and their performance in numerous class species is not obtainable. The performance of the assorted proteinases
and protease inhibitors of ejaculate stay a mystery, and only a few studies are conducted concerning
the characterization of those enzymes. Throughout this review, we tend to target the current understanding of the key proteases and their inhibitors of ejaculate from various mammalian species. Not Availabl
Reduction of Phytate in Soy Drink by Fermentation with Lactobacillus casei Expressing Phytases From Bifidobacteria
Plant-based food products can be modified by fermentation to improve flavour and the concentration of some biologically active compounds, but also to increase the mineral availability by eliminating anti-nutrient substances such as phytates. The objective of this study was to develop a fermented soybean drink with improved nutritional quality and source of probiotic bacteria by including as starter for fermentation Lactobacillus casei strains modified to produce phytase enzymes from bifidobacteria. The L. casei strains showed a good adaptation to develop in the soy drink but they needed the addition of external carbohydrates to give rise to an efficient acidification. The strain expressing the Bifidobacterium pseudocatenulatum phytase was able to degrade more than 90Â % phytate during product fermentation, whereas expression of Bifidobacterium longum spp. infantis phytase only led to 65Â % hydrolysis. In both cases, accumulation of myo-inositol triphosphates was observed. In addition, the hydrolysis of phytate in soy drink fermented with the L. casei strain expressing the B. pseudocatenulatum phytase resulted in phytate/mineral ratios for Fe (0.35) and Zn (2.4), which were below the critical values for reduced mineral bioavailability in humans. This investigation showed the ability of modified L. casei to produce enzymes with technological relevance in the design of new functional foods. This work was financed by projects Consolider Fun-C-Food CSD2007-00063 from the Ministry of Economy and Competitiveness (MINECO) and PROMETEO/2012/064 from the Generalitat Valenciana, Spain.Peer Reviewe
