Quantifying Quantum Correlations in Fermionic Systems using Witness Operators
We present a method to quantify quantum correlations in arbitrary systems of
indistinguishable fermions using witness operators. The method associates the
problem of finding the optimal entan- glement witness of a state with a class
of problems known as semidefinite programs (SDPs), which can be solved
efficiently with arbitrary accuracy. Based on these optimal witnesses, we
introduce a measure of quantum correlations which has an interpretation
analogous to the Generalized Robust- ness of entanglement. We also extend the
notion of quantum discord to the case of indistinguishable fermions, and
propose a geometric quantifier, which is compared to our entanglement measure.
Our numerical results show a remarkable equivalence between the proposed
Generalized Robustness and the Schliemann concurrence, which are equal for pure
states. For mixed states, the Schliemann con- currence presents itself as an
upper bound for the Generalized Robustness. The quantum discord is also found

Use of Opuntia ficus-indica (L.) Mill extracts from Brazilian Caatinga as an alternative of natural moisturizer in cosmetic formulations
ABSTRACT The aim of this work was the obtainment of Opuntia fícus-indica (L.) Mill extract for the development of cosmetic formulations and in vivo evaluation of its moisturizing effects. The formulations were tested for preliminary and accelerated stability. Organoleptic characteristics, pH values and rheological behavior were assessed. The evaluation of moisturizing efficacy of the emulsions formulated with 3.0% of Polyacrylamide (and) C13-14 Isoparaffin (and) Laureth-7 containing 1.0 and 3.0% of O. ficus-indica hydroglycolic extract (EHG001) was performed using the capacitance method (Corneometer(r)) and the transepidermal water loss - TEWL evaluation (Tewameter(r)). The emulsions formulated were stable, exhibiting pseudoplastic and thixotropic behavior. The results of evaluation of moisturizing efficacy showed increased skin hydration after five hours by mainly increasing the skin barrier effect. The formulations containing 1.0 and 3.0% of EHG001 enhanced the skin barrier effect by reducing TEWL up to four hours after application. The results observed suggest that O. ficus-indica hydroglycolic extract may act through a humectant and occlusion mechanism
Estruturas do sistema de saúde: do complexo médico-industrial ao médico-financeiro Health system structures: from the medical-industrial to the medical-financial complex
O conceito de complexo médico-industrial tem sido utilizado, desde os anos 1980, no Brasil, para ressaltar as múltiplas e complexas inter-relações estabelecidas entre os diversos atores do setor saúde e destes com os demais setores da economia. O CMI é um produto histórico e particular da evolução do sistema de saúde. É um estágio em que, devido à necessidade de reprodução dos capitais investidos, as práticas capitalistas privadas se tornam hegemônicas e determinantes das funções, papéis e relações de cada ator no interior do próprio sistema. A hipótese discutida neste texto é que o sistema de saúde tem hoje dois atratores fundamentais, moldando o comportamento de seus agentes: um é a tecnologia e o outro é o aspecto financeiro da valorização do capital. Para o primeiro, constituiu-se o que se denomina complexo médico-industrial, enquanto que, para o segundo, tem-se o aparecimento de um complexo médico-financeiro.<br>The concept of a medical-industrial complex has been used since the 1980s in Brazil to highlight the multiple and complex relations that are established both among various players in the health sector and between them and other sectors of the economy. The medical-industrial complex is a product of the health system's history, and particularly that of its evolution. It is a stage in which, due to the need for reproduction of capital investments, private capitalist practices become hegemonic and determinant in each player's functions, roles, and relations within the system itself. The hypothesis discussed in this article is that the health system now has two fundamental attractors shaping the behavior of its agents: technology and the enhancement of capital value. What has come to be known as the medical-industrial complex was constituted for the former, while the medical-financial complex emerged with the latter
Epidemiology of neurocysticercosis in Brazil Epidemiologia da neurocisticercose no Brasil
A revision of literature was done with the objective of tracing an epidemiologic profile of neurocysticercosis (NCC) in Brazil. The prevalence was 0.12-9% in autopsies. The frequency was 0.03-7.5% in clinical series and 0.68-5.2% in seroepidemiological studies. The disease corresponds to 0.08-2.5% of admissions to general hospitals. Patient origin was rural in 30-63% of cases. The most involved age range (64-100%) was 11 to 60 years, with a predominance (22-67%) between 21 and 40 years. The male sex was the most affected (51-80%). In the severe forms there was a predominance of urban origin (53-62%) and of the female sex (53-75%). The period of hospitalization ranges from 1 to 254 days and 33 to 50% of patients suffer 1.7 ± 1.4 admissions. The clinical picture was variable, with a predominance of epileptic syndrome (22-92%) and intracranial hypertension (19-89%). Psychiatric manifestations were associated in 9-23% of patients. Lethality was 0.29% in terms of all diseases in general and 4.8-25.9% in terms of neurologic diseases. The asymptomatic form was detected in 6% of patients in clinical serie and in 48.5% of case from autopsies. The racemose form and ventricular localization also was observed as asymptomatic form. Among the patients with cutaneous cysticercosis 65% of them showed neurologic manifestations.<br>Realizou-se revisão da literatura com o objetivo de tentar delinear um perfil epidemiológico da neurocisticercose no Brasil. A prevalência em necrópsias variou de 0,12-9%. A freqüência, nas casuísticas clínicas foi de 0,03-7,5% e, nos estudos soroepidemiológicos, de 0,68-5,2%. Compreendeu 0,08-2,5% das internações em hospitais gerais. A procedência foi rural em 30-63% dos doentes. Comprometeu mais (64-100%) na faixa etária dos 11 aos 60 anos, predominantemente (22-67%) entre 21 e 40 anos. O sexo masculino foi mais atingido (51-80%). Nas formas graves, houve predomínio da origem urbana (53-62%) e do sexo feminino (53-75%). O período de internação variou de 1 -254 dias, com 33 a 50% dos doentes necessitando 1.7 ± 1,4 admissões. Houve variabilidade no quadro clínico, predominando síndrome epiléptica (22-92%) e hipertensão intracraniana (19-89%). A presença de manifestações psiquiátricas foi observada em 9-23% dos doentes. A letalidade, frente as doenças em geral, foi de 0,29% e, entre as doenças neurológicas, de 4,8-25,9%. A forma assintomática foi detectada em 6% dos doentes de casuística clínica e em 48,5% dos casos de necrópsia. A forma racemosa e a localização ventricular também se apresentaram de maneira assintomática. Entre os doentes com cisticercose cutânea, 65% apresentavam manifestações neurológicas
Nutritional levels of digestible methionine + cystine to brown-egg laying hens from 50 to 66 weeks of age
The objective of this study was to determine the requirement of digestible methionine + cystine of brown-eggs laying hens from 50 to 66 weeks age at the end of the first production cycle. The design was completely randomized, with 150 Brown Shaver hens, which were distributed in five treatments with six replications of five birds each. Birds received a basal diet with 2857 kcal/kg metabolizable energy and 15.97% crude protein, supplemented with 0.132; 0.174, 0.215, 0.256 and 0.298% DL-methionine (98%), in order to provide 0.572, 0.613, 0.653, 0.693 and 0.734% digestible methionine + cystine. The levels of digestible methionine + digestible cystine followed, respectively, the relations of 67, 72, 77, 81 and 86% with lysine fixed at 0.851%. Feed intake, methionine + cystine intake, feed conversion per dozen eggs, egg weigth and mass, percentage of egg components, internal egg quality and weight gain were evaluated. Methionine + cystine levels showed a quadratic effect on feed conversion per dozen eggs and egg weight, a linear effect on feed conversion per kilogram of eggs and percentage of albumen. There was also a positive linear effect on yolk percentage. The methionine + cystine requirement was estimated at 0.572%, corresponding to 682 mg of digestible methionine + cystine/bird/day
