Isolated segments of epicardial coronary artery with and without severe atherosclerotic lesions excised from human hearts 3 to 5 hours after sudden coronary death demonstrated spontaneous contractile activity that was dependent on the external calcium level and was inhibited by calcium antagonists and activation of beta-adrenoceptors (isoproterenol and high concentrations of norepinephrine). Isoproterenol, with a median effective dose (ED50) of 6.3 x 10-7M, relaxed coronary segments that had been precontracted with 30 mMpotassium. Stimulation of the alpha-adrenoceptors activated spontaneous contractions and increased tension. Norepinephrine ED50(in the presence of 10-6Mpropranolol) was 2.3 x 10-7M, and tension at a maximal concentration of 10-4Mwas 385.4 ± 51.4 mg. The ED50for acetylcholine and histamine, the potent activators of coronary segment tone and phasic contractility, was 3.98 x 10-7and 8.9 x 10-7M, respectively; the maximal increase in tension was 1,079.5 ± 175 (at 10-4M) and 1,131.3 ± 302 mg (at 10-5M), respectively. Acetylcholine and histamine increased whereas high concentrations of norepinephrine failed to inhibit rhythmic activity and tension of coronary artery segments with severe atherosclerotic lesions. Membrane electrogenic mechanisms and ways of activating the contractile elements of human coronary artery smooth muscle are discussed

Giant Keplerate molecule Fe30 - the first octopole magnet

The multipole expansion technique is applied to one of the largest magnetic molecules, Fe30. The molecule's dipole, toroid and quadrupole magnetic moments are equal to zero (in the absence of magnetic field) so the multipole expansion starts from the octopole moment. Probably the Fe30 molecule is the most symmetrical magnetic body synthesized so far. The magnetization process is considered theoretically in different geometries. Some components of the octopole moment experience a jump while the magnetization rises linearly up to its saturation value. An elementary octopole moment consisting of four magnetic dipoles is proposed as a hint for designing of an experiment for measurement of octopole magnetic moment components.Comment: 7 pages, 9 figure

The article considers the elections to local governments and the Senate, which were held in the Czech Republic in late September – early October 2022. Results, despite insignificant influence on the formation of national policy, demonstrate the trends of Czech electoral behavior and indicate the processes of the country’s party-political development on background of the global crisis. Firstly, it is necessary to indicate it’s a little influence on the position of political forces within the country; the traditional liberal electorate has not been convinced of its adherence to value ideals due to the worsening socio-economic situation in the country. Secondly, the political forces that form the current government have become convinced of the need to preserve the coalition in order to defeat the opposition forces (ANO, SPD). The duels in the second round of the senatorial elections demonstrated a great potential for mobilizing voters who sympathize with cabinet parties. At the same time, the ANO electorate turned out to be inert and incapable of activating its potential in an emergency situation («elections as a referendum of government confidence»). Thirdly, political analysts record the transformation of the ANO movement, which began to get rid of the reputation of the «party of one person» in the direction of a party consisting of many charismatic politicians. The author of the work states that a combination of these factors shows that the brainchild of A. Babiš will face great difficulties in nominating his candidate for the presidency of the country, whose elections will be held in January 2023

Dibromobis(phosphine)palladium(II) complexes, PdBr2(L)2 [L = PPh3, P(p-Tol)3], react with cyclohexane and an alcoholic solution of sodium alkoxide, NaOR (R = Me, Et, Pri), at 30-60°C affording the corresponding alkyl cyclohex-1-enyl ethers, ROC6H9, in 30-140% yield on palladium both under argon and under air; benzene is inert under the reaction conditions, sodium tert-butoxide does not enter the hydrocarbon alkoxylation

Modernization of Harvesting and Processing Head

    Get PDF
Background and Purpose: The article is devoted to the reduction of energy consumption necessary for delimbing. Materials and Methods: Branch delimbing method includes feeding the tree trunk through the ring formed by the delimbing knives and simultaneous reciprocator movement of the delimbing knives along the axis of the processed trunk. The distinctive feature of the construction is the presence of the beater unit comprising a pusher and a piston mounted inside a sealed housing. Results: As a result of the suggested construction the force of the beater impact of the delimbing knife is increased. Using this method, the branches are removed not only due to the force generated when the knives come in contact with branches pushed by feed rolls moving the trunk, but also due to extra beater stress affecting the delimbing knife. The use of the aforesaid method and the construction of the mechanism allows to reduce energy consumption necessary for the delimbing process. Conclusions: The design of harvesting and processing head proposed in this article can be used in the design and manufacture of logging machines and mechanisms. The technical solution may be an interesting advance of the delimbing process when processing trees, especially when cutting big branches or when cutting forces are temporarily higher than average force values

Czech Presidency of the Council of the European Union: First Results

The article discusses the features of the Czech presidency of the EU Council, which took place in the second half of 2022. The author draws attention that program documents was due to both external factors (special military operation in Ukraine) and internal (coming to the power of the liberal-democratic government of P. Fiala). The new Cabinet, following the rhetoric of a return to the Havel course, focused on promoting a value policy. This approach has led the Czechs to prioritize helping Ukraine and combating energy dependence on Russian natural resources. In turn, the extremely urgent goals of post-pandemic recovery were not properly articulated. The author analyzes the results of the previous Czech presidency and concludes that the topics raised 13 years ago have penetrated the European agenda by 2022, becoming current trends in the development of the EU. The continuity of the two presidencies is also indicated. The paper notes that the current chairmanship can hardly be considered as a tool for promoting the long-term national interests of the Czech Republic due to the possible deterioration of the country’s socio-economic situation

2022: HIGH NOON OF POLITICAL TURBULANCE IN SLOVAKIA

The article examines the political processes in Slovakia in 2022. It is noted that the past year has demonstrated the fragility and weakness of the ruling coalition, which, following a lengthy debate, was forced to resign. The author notes that the central reason for the collapse of the Cabinet was the personal hostility of the country’s leading politicians – I. Matovič and R. Sulik. However, they demonstrated a keen desire to delay the collapse of the coalition, aggravating the internal political situation in the country as much as possible, since they realized the impossibility of participating in the formation of the next government following the results of early elections. The paper notes significant electoral changes in Slovakia since 2020: there has been a total decline in the popularity of the parties that formed the Cabinet, and an increase in the authority of the forces in opposition and promising the return of stable times. Meanwhile, early elections scheduled for September 30, 2023 do not yet guarantee the opposition a victory. The Slovak political tradition and the experience of neighboring Central European countries point to the possibility of liberal politicians uniting in various political alliances to prevent their ideological opponents from gaining powe
