Potential of a New Technique for Remote Sensing of Hydrocarbon Accumulations and Blind Uranium Deposits: Buried Lif Thermoluminescence Dosimeters
Buried thermoluminescence dosimeters may be useful in remote sensing of petroleum and natural gas accumulations and blind uranium deposits. They act as integrating detectors that smooth out the effects of environmental variations that affect other measuring systems and result in irregularities and poor repeatability in measurements made during gas and radiometric surveys

Obtaining Au thin films in atmosphere of reactive nitrogen through magnetron sputtering
4d and 5d series of the transition metals are used to the obtaining nitrides metallic, due to the synthesis of PtN, AgN and AuN in the last years. Different nitrides are obtained in the Plasma Assisted Physics Vapour Deposition system, due to its ionization energy which is necessary for their formation. In this paper a Magnetron Sputtering system was used to obtain Au thin films on Si wafers in Nitrogen atmosphere. The substrate temperature was varied between 500 to 950°C. The samples obtained at high temperatures (>500°C) show Au, Si and N elements, as it is corroborated in the narrow spectrum obtained for X-Ray Photoelectron Spectroscopy; besides the competition of orientation crystallographic texture between (111) and (311) directions was present in the X-Ray Diffraction analysis to the sample heated at 950°C
General spherically symmetric elastic stars in Relativity
The relativistic theory of elasticity is reviewed within the spherically
symmetric context with a view towards the modeling of star interiors possessing
elastic properties such as theones expected in neutron stars. Emphasis is
placed on generality in the main sections of the paper, and the results are
then applied to specific examples. Along the way, a few general results for
spacetimes admitting isometries are deduced, and their consequences are fully
exploited in the case of spherical symmetry relating them next to the the case
in which the material content of the spacetime is some elastic material. This
paper extends and generalizes the pioneering work by Magli and Kijowski [1],
Magli [2] and [3], and complements, in a sense, that by Karlovini and
Samuelsson in their interesting series of papers [4], [5] and [6].Comment: 23 page
Skeletal ontogeny of the Plainfin Midshipman, Porichthys notatus (Percomorphacea: Batrachoidiformes
Batrachoidiformes are benthic fishes that utilize the undersides of rocks as spawn- ing nests. Their larvae are attached to the nest and nourished by a large yolk sac. The evolutionary shift from feeding, free-swimming larvae to sedentary larvae that are reliant on their yolk sac for nutrition can lead to changes in skeletal develop- ment. Batrachoidiformes also have many morphological specializations, such as five pectoral-fin radials (versus four in other acanthomorphs) that are of uncertain homol- ogy, the determination of which may have phylogenetic implications. A larval series of Porichthys notatus was collected and its skeletal ontogeny is described. In P. notatus the ossification of the pharyngeal toothplates occurs relatively later than in perco- morphs with free-swimming larvae. The posterior basibranchial copula cartilage (= fourth basibranchial) in Porichthys notatus has a unique development among fishes: it initially develops as a paired element at 6.8–7.1 mm NL before fusing posteriorly and forming single median cartilage at 7.4 mm SL. Cartilages of hypobranchial four are transitory, being observed in two specimens of 6.8 and 7.3 mm NL before fusing with ceratobranchial four. The previously identified dorsalmost pectoral radial is a bone formed by a hypertrophied propterygium that ossifies later in development. The earli- est stages of P. notatus have three dorsal spines, but during late larval development, the growth of the third dorsal spine is interrupted. Magnetic anisotropy modulation of magnetite in Fe3O4/BaTiO3(100) epitaxial structures
Temperature dependent magnetometry and transport measurements on epitaxial
Fe3O4 films grown on BaTiO3(100) single crystals by molecular beam epitaxy show
a series of discontinuities, that are due to changes in the magnetic anisotropy
induced by strain in the different crystal phases of BaTiO3. The magnetite film
is under tensile strain at room temperature, which is ascribed to the lattice
expansion of BaTiO3 at the cubic to tetragonal transition, indicating that the
magnetite film is relaxed at the growth temperature. From the magnetization
versus temperature curves, the variation in the magnetic anisotropy is
determined and compared with the magnetoelastic anisotropies. These results
demonstrate the possibility of using the piezoelectric response of BaTiO3 to
modulate the magnetic anisotropy of magnetite films.Comment: 4 pages, 4 figure
