Geometrical view of quantum entanglement
Although a precise description of microscopic physical problems requires a
full quantum mechanical treatment, physical quantities are generally discussed
in terms of classical variables. One exception is quantum entanglement which
apparently has no classical counterpart. We demonstrate here how quantum
entanglement may be within the de Broglie-Bohm interpretation of quantum
mechanics visualized in geometrical terms, giving new insight into this
mysterious phenomenon and a language to describe it. On the basis of our
analysis of the dynamics of a pair of qubits, quantum entanglement is linked to
concurrent motion of angular momenta in the Bohmian space of hidden variables
and to the average angle between these momenta
A first experimental test of de Broglie-Bohm theory against standard quantum mechanics
De Broglie - Bohm (dBB) theory is a deterministic theory, built for
reproducing almost all Quantum Mechanics (QM) predictions, where position plays
the role of a hidden variable. It was recently shown that different coincidence
patterns are predicted by QM and dBB when a double slit experiment is realised
under specific conditions and, therefore, an experiment can test the two
theories. In this letter we present the first realisation of such a double slit
experiment by using correlated photons produced in type I Parametric Down
Conversion. Our results confirm QM contradicting dBB predictions

The behavioral parenting interventions (BPT), commonly abbreviated as parent training, is a program conducted by an expert with the specific purpose of improving or modifying parental practices in order to promote the child's well-being, increasing parenting skills in the daily management of the child, problem solving and reducing the level of parenting and family stress. BPT presents many positive effects on children or adolescents affected by neurodevelopmental disorder such as ADHD, autism and cognitive dysfunction but BPT appears to improve also other proximal outcomes such as parenting competence and parenting stress
Undamped electrostatic plasma waves
Electrostatic waves in a collision-free unmagnetized plasma of electrons with
fixed ions are investigated for electron equilibrium velocity distribution
functions that deviate slightly from Maxwellian. Of interest are undamped waves
that are the small amplitude limit of nonlinear excitations, such as electron
acoustic waves (EAWs). A deviation consisting of a small plateau, a region with
zero velocity derivative over a width that is a very small fraction of the
electron thermal speed, is shown to give rise to new undamped modes, which here
are named {\it corner modes}. The presence of the plateau turns off Landau
damping and allows oscillations with phase speeds within the plateau. These
undamped waves are obtained in a wide region of the plane
( being the real part of the wave frequency and the
wavenumber), away from the well-known `thumb curve' for Langmuir waves and EAWs
based on the Maxwellian. Results of nonlinear Vlasov-Poisson simulations that
corroborate the existence of these modes are described. It is also shown that
deviations caused by fattening the tail of the distribution shift roots off of
the thumb curve toward lower -values and chopping the tail shifts them
toward higher -values. In addition, a rule of thumb is obtained for
assessing how the existence of a plateau shifts roots off of the thumb curve.
Suggestions are made for interpreting experimental observations of
electrostatic waves, such as recent ones in nonneutral plasmas.Comment: 11 pages, 10 figure
The Agile Alert System For Gamma-Ray Transients
In recent years, a new generation of space missions offered great
opportunities of discovery in high-energy astrophysics. In this article we
focus on the scientific operations of the Gamma-Ray Imaging Detector (GRID)
onboard the AGILE space mission. The AGILE-GRID, sensitive in the energy range
of 30 MeV-30 GeV, has detected many gamma-ray transients of galactic and
extragalactic origins. This work presents the AGILE innovative approach to fast
gamma-ray transient detection, which is a challenging task and a crucial part
of the AGILE scientific program. The goals are to describe: (1) the AGILE
Gamma-Ray Alert System, (2) a new algorithm for blind search identification of
transients within a short processing time, (3) the AGILE procedure for
gamma-ray transient alert management, and (4) the likelihood of ratio tests
that are necessary to evaluate the post-trial statistical significance of the
results. Special algorithms and an optimized sequence of tasks are necessary to
reach our goal. Data are automatically analyzed at every orbital downlink by an
alert pipeline operating on different timescales. As proper flux thresholds are
exceeded, alerts are automatically generated and sent as SMS messages to
cellular telephones, e-mails, and push notifications of an application for
smartphones and tablets. These alerts are crosschecked with the results of two
pipelines, and a manual analysis is performed. Being a small scientific-class
mission, AGILE is characterized by optimization of both scientific analysis and
ground-segment resources. The system is capable of generating alerts within two
to three hours of a data downlink, an unprecedented reaction time in gamma-ray

Environmental Assessment of Renewable Fuel Energy Systems with Cross-Media Effects Approach☆
Abstract In the last years, the number of installed biofuels power plants is increased in northern Italy, due to favorable legislation on renewable energy sources, posing the issue to assess the resulting environmental effects. The European legislation on emissions for renewable fuels power plants provides guidelines to be integrated in the local regulations; moreover, local authorities have to identify the critical power plants in terms of pollution and the key parameters to grant licenses for the future plants. The aim of this paper is to describe a methodology and the calculation routine developed to assess the environmental effects of biomass plants in terms of simple indexes. The used approach is based on the Cross-Media Effects described by a European Commission Reference Document. In particular, several indexes are introduced to cover the most relevant environmental effects, as: air toxicity, global warming, acidification, eutrophication and photochemical ozone creation. For every considered pollutant (such as NOx, CO, etc.) directly emitted by the power plant, specific factors have been identified, in order to calculate the contribution to the different environmental indexes. Finally, a numerical evaluation of different biomass power plants, installed in Emilia Romagna region, is provided, in order to assess their environmental cross-media potential and to compare such kind of power plants with large scale, fossil-fuelled power plants
