Antitumor action of lymphokin-activated ΡΠ΅lls of patients with soft tissue sarcomas and melanomas in dependence on expression of MHC classes I and II antigenes
Aim: To study expression of major histocompatibility complex (MHC) classes Π and ΠΠ antigens and CD25, CD71, Ki-67, CD54, CD56, CD11b, PCNA on lymphocytes and tumor cells and antitumor action of lymphocytes activated with IL-2. Materials and Methods: Tumor explants (soft tissue sarcoma, n = 20, melanoma, n = 25) were co-cultivated in diffusion chambers with autologous lymphocytes; antitumor action was evaluated by morphologic patterns of explantβs growth. Expression of CD25, CD71, Ki-67, CD54, CD56, CD11b, PCNA was evaluated by the method of indirect fluorescence using respective monoclonal antibodies. Results: The highest antitumor action of lymphocytes toward soft tissue sarcoma and melanoma cells is observed if tumor cells are expressing MHC class I antigens. In the cases of soft tissue sarcoma no correlation between the level of antitumor activity of lymphocytes and expression of CD25, CD71, Ki-67, CD54, CD56, CD11b, PCNA has been found, whilst in the case of melanoma it is associated with the high level of CD11b expression. Metabolic shifts in subjects with potential risk of primary osteoarthritis
The Aim of the study was to estimate metabolic disorders in subjects with potential risk of primary knee osteoarthri-tis development. Material and Methods. The study included 27 patients: 10 men (37%), 17 women (63%) aged from 33 to 68 years, and 20 healthy people (8 men and 12 women). Traditional biochemical indexes characterizing certain metabolic aspects (total protein, urea, cholesterol, glucose, uric acid, amylase and bilirubin) were studied alongside with the assessment of articular cartilage state by the level of COMP (cartilage oligometric matrix protein), malondial-dehyde and ceruloplasmin. Results. In the course of our investigation we observed elevated COMP (Me=871,4 (792,2; 912,5)), malondialdehyde (Me=5,1 (4,7; 5,5)) and ceruloplasmin (Me=48,4 (41,2; 55,4)) levels. Conclusion. Negative metabolic shifts in the form of cartilage tissue metabolic disorders, activated lipid peroxidation and relative failure of body antioxidant system were observed in patients with potentially high risk of knee osteoarthritis without clinical manifestations of the disease.</p

Measurements of RF pulse signals in megawatt circuits are an important problem of acceleration technique.
Measuring circuits should not degrade WSVR in power transmitting channels or give rise to local electric field
overvoltages. An especially developed set of tools including 2.8 GHz detecting unit blocks, vacuum directional
couplers, phase detectors, and phase shifting lines is described. The set allows one to carry out non-intrusive RF

The review contains data on the diversity of endogenous ligands of RAGE receptors (receptor for advanced glycation end products) that play an important role in the signal transduction in (patho) physiological conditions. RAGE takes part in various physiological processes like cell growth and survival, apoptosis and regeneration. They serve as regulators of inflammatory reactions due to their ability to induce secretion of cytokines and chemokines. In addition, they facilitate elimination of apoptotic cells and mediate innate immune response. We discuss mechanisms of soluble RAGE production as well as the role of membrane and soluble forms of the receptor in cell signaling. Several endogenous ligands of RAGE are well-known: advanced glycation end products (AGE), amyloid-beta (ΠΞ²), nuclear high mobility group box 1 proteins (HMGB1), and calcium-binding proteins S100A4, S100A8/A9, S100A12Β ΠΈΒ S100B.Β The review is focused on the mechanisms of the ligands production, their secretion from the cells of various origin, interaction with RAGE, and associated intracellular signal transduction pathways. Semiclassical approach to calculating the influence of local lattice fluctuations on electronic properties of metals
We propose a new semiclassical approach based on the dynamical mean field
theory to treat the interactions of electrons with local lattice fluctuations.
In this approach the classical (static) phonon modes are treated exactly
whereas the quantum (dynamical) modes are expanded to second order and give
rise to an effective semiclassical potential. We determine the limits of
validity of the approximation, and demonstrate its usefulness by calculating
the temperature dependent resistivity in the Fermi liquid to polaron crossover
regime (leading to `saturation behavior') and also isotope effects on
electronic properties including the spectral function, resistivity, and optical
conductivity, problems beyond the scope of conventional diagrammatic

Antihypertensive therapy influence on clinical and psychological characteristics of patients with hypertensive encephalopathy
Aim: to analyze the influence of antihypertensive therapy (AT) on clinical and psychological characteristics of patients with hypertensive encephalopathy (HE). Materials: 107 patients with HE l-lll were given inadequate AT and therefore were under the study. Diurnal blood pressure monitoring (DBPM), neurological status, asthenic disorder level, life quality (LQ) parameters, sleep quality and attitude-to-disease type were estimated. The patients were re-examined in 6-month period after prescribing an adequate AT. The control group included 30 healthy patients. Results: in the process of AT daily average indices of blood pressure (BP) were able to be matched with the control indices, the number of patients with normal degree of night BP decrease raised. Physical and psychological health constituents were increased. Sleep quality improved. The increase of patients with well-balanced attitude-to-disease type was fixed. Background: Early diagnosis of stroke, its treatment and rehabilitation are considered priorities in the state health care policy. Pharmacological intervention is used as a strategy to protect the neurons from the ischemic penumbra. Aim: To evaluate changes of functional state and levels of endothelial progenitor cells (EPC) in the circulation in ischemic stroke patients under administration of citicoline.Materials and methods: We assessed 11 patients in their early rehabilitation period of ischemic stroke (9 men and 2 women, mean age 58.4 Β± 9.2 years). Patients from group 1 (n = 7) were given citicoline at dose 2000 mg/daily for 14 days, whereas patients from group 2 (n = 4) received regular treatment. Two healthy volunteers served as a control group. Circulatory EPC phenotype was assessed by multicolor laser flow cytometry and monoclonal antibody assay. Stroke severity and functional abilities were measured with NIHSS, Rankin scale and Rivermead mobility index.Results: Patients with ischemic stroke had decreased levels of early EPC, compared to healthy subjects. After 7 days of treatment in the group 1, there was a significant increase of circulatory EPC expressing VEGFR2+ up to 25.5 Β± 20.9%, as well as an increase of early EPC numbers (CD117+ / CD133+) up to 18.8 Β± 14.6%, compared to their respective baseline levels (21.9 Β± 19.2 and 9.4 Β± 5.4%) and compared to respective parameters in the group 2 (8.1 Β± 2.7 and 5.5 Β± 3.4%). In the group 1, severity of stroke and functional ability at baseline and at day 7 were as follows: NIHSS scores, 5.8 Β± 4.9 and 3.5 Β± 0.7, Rankin scale scores, 2.7 Β± 1.3 and 2.3 Β± 0.5, Rivermead mobility index, 8.8 Β± 4.9 and 9.4 Β± 4.8, respectively. In the group 2 corresponding parameters scored as 4.5 Β± 2.3 and 3.3 Β± 0.5, 2.5 Β± 0.6 and 2.5 Β± 0.4, 12.5 Β± 1.3 and 12.7 Β± 0.7, respectively.Conclusion: Treatment with citicoline in acute ischemic stroke promoted almost a 2-fold increase in early EPC levels.
