Continental Subduction Tectonics in the High Karst Dinarides of Western Croatia

The faults confining Palaeozoic inliers surrounded by Mesozoic rocks, show that their relation is not a consequence of folding but of neotectonic uplift causing a rather uneven relief of the Palaeozoic units underlying the carbonate Mesozoic. The predominance of tectonic contacts indicates that similar relations exist even between the Triassic and the confined Jurassic outcrops exhibiting inverse and, consequently, allochthonous relations. The allochthony is also confirmed by karst relief within some Triassic dolomites related to the unexpected ground water flow between the swallow holes (ponors) and karst springs. There are also indications of inverse relations between the Triassic volcanics and Palaeozoic clastics. However, in the surrounding area a normal superposition between the Triassic and Jurassic is also noticed. Consequently the Triassic and Jurassic of the Fuzine-Lokve area and of its environs may belong to two megatectonic units. Tectogenesis is explained by continental subduction of the Adriaticum under the Dinaricum

A neuro-fuzzy based combustion sensor for the control of optimal engine combustion efficiency

Modern and advanced control systems for internal combustion engines require accurate feedback information from the combustion chamber. Whereas the in-cylinder pressure sensor provides this information through its close thermodynamic ties with the combustion process, drawbacks in its implementation push research towards other non-intrusive sensing methods. This paper suggests alternative methods of combustion phasing detection relying on measured angular crankshaft speed. Method developed, achieves sensing of angular position of the 50% of mass fraction burned (MFB50) through two steps: calculation of, so called, synthetic torque and its non-linear transformation to a combustion feature estimator through local model. In order to calibrate both parts of this virtual combustion sensor, parameters of a high-fidelity crankshaft dynamic model are identified, and the linear neuro-fuzzy based model is trained with extensive experimentally collected data set. Created virtual MFB50 sensor, demonstrated its performance, on a large test data set comprised of 70% of gathered data

Possibilities to identify engine combustion model parameters by analysis of the instantaneous crankshaft angular speed

In this paper, novel method for obtaining information about combustion process in individual cylinders of a multi-cylinder spark ignition engine based on instantaneous crankshaft angular velocity is presented. The method is based on robust box constrained Levenberg-Marquardt minimization of non-linear least squares given for measured and simulated instantaneous crankshaft angular speed which is determined from the solution of the engine dynamics torque balance equation. Combination of in-house developed comprehensive zero-dimensional two-zone spark ignition engine combustion model and analytical friction loss model in angular domain have been applied to provide sensitivity and error analysis regarding Wiebe combustion model parameters, heat transfer coefficient, and compression ratio. The analysis is employed to evaluate the basic starting assumption and possibility to provide reliable combustion analysis based on instantaneous engine crankshaft angular speed

The inhibitive behaviour of Vitamin C, as a type of green inhibitor, on the corrosive behaviour of stainless-steel (SS) X4Cr13 within an aqueous solution of hydrochloric acid (HCl) was studied at concentration of c= (0.01, 0.1 and 1.0) mol L-1. Potentiodynamic polarization and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS), was used for the measurements at 25 degrees C. To observe the morphology and microstructures of sample surfaces, after the electrochemical measurements a Scanning electron microscopy (SEM) was used. On the basis of the EDAX analysis within the solution of hydrochloric acid (0.01 mol L-1) with addition of Vitamin-C (0.005 mol L-1) the presence of the feri-chelates on the metal surface could be confirmed. The polarization curves revealed that the studied mixtures of the chosen inhibitor represented mixed-type of the inhibitor. The results show that the inhibition efficiency increases with the increase of the inhibitor concentration. This valid especially in the case of the lowest concentration of HCl (c= 0.01 mol L-1). In addition to this at higher HCl concentration (c= 1.0 mol L-1) the immersion time has a noticeable influence on the inhibitive response. Furthermore, the results obtained in this study showed that the inhibitory effect of Vitamin-C to a great extent on electrode potential

Hole-depletion of ladders in Sr14_{14}Cu24_{24}O41_{41} induced by correlation effects

The hole distribution in Sr14_{14}Cu24_{24}O41_{41} is studied by low temperature polarization dependent O K Near-Edge X-ray Absorption Fine Structure measurements and state of the art electronic structure calculations that include core-hole and correlation effects in a mean-field approach. Contrary to all previous analysis, based on semi-empirical models, we show that correlations and antiferromagnetic ordering favor the strong chain hole-attraction. For the remaining small number of holes accommodated on ladders, leg-sites are preferred to rung-sites. The small hole affinity of rung-sites explains naturally the 1D - 2D cross-over in the phase diagram of (La,Y,Sr,Ca)14_{14}Cu24_{24}O41_{41}Comment: 6 pages, 8 figure

Broj i kompleksnost mesta inicijacije replikacije varira meΔ‘u vrstama. Kod evolutivno niΕΎih eukariota su jednostavnija, dok su kod viΕ‘ih eukariota kompleksnija. Način prepoznavanja ovih mesta od strane inicijacionih proteina nije u potpunosti razjaΕ‘njen. Ori sekvenca, locirana nizvodno od gena DHFR (dihidrofolat reduktaza) hrčka, sadrΕΎi tri definisana ori mesta inicijacije replikacije: ori Ξ², ori Ξ²' i ori Ξ³. Protein ORC (eng. Funkcija ljudskog proteina Orc4 (HsOrc4) do sad nije u potpunosti razjaΕ‘njena. NaΕ‘im prethodnim istraΕΎivanjima, pokazali smo da HsOrc4 prepoznaje nekanonske strukture i ima sposobnost za utiče na formiranje TAT tripleksa i homoadeninskih struktura...Replication is one of the fundamental processes in the life cycle of the cell. The aim of replication is a duplication of genetic material. To make genetic material properly duplicated and subsequently divided into daughter cells, a large number of mechanisms of regulation of replication have been developed. One way of regulation is the proper selection and activation of replication initiation. The number and complexity of the origins of replication (ori) varies among species. They are simpler at evolution lower eukaryotes, while in higher eukaryotes are more complex. The way of recognizing these places by initiation proteins is not fully understood. Ori sequence, located downstream of the DHFR gene (dihydrofolate reductase) hamster, contains three defined origins of replication: ori Ξ², ori Ξ²' and ori Ξ³. Ori Ξ² DHFR sequence is strong replicator and shows activity at ectopic places. Although the sequence of ori DHFR is one of the best characterized ori sequences in metazoans and within defined functionally important regions (AT rich region, DNR region, BEND, RIP60 region, IR 4 bp), their function is still not completely understood. ORC (Origin recognition complex) is heterohexamer protein responsible for identifying origins of replication. It is assumed that several elements play a role in recognizing ori sequences of the ORC complex in metazoans. The function of the human protein Orc4 (HsOrc4) has not been fully elucidated. Our previous studies showed that HsOrc4 recognize non-canonical structures and has the ability to influence at formation of TAT triplexes and homoadenine structures..

Urban-economic development policies of towns and settlements based on culture and creativity have become widely accepted, but they are frequently uncritically implemented. These policies may be recognized in concepts of cultural, creative city, cultural and creative industries, cultural and creative clusters, and cultural and creative tourism. They are usually connected to larger towns, but also increasingly occur in development of smaller towns and settlements; as smaller towns and settlements do not have usual cultural and creative policy resources, researches point to the fact that in such cases eligible models are based on development of tourism, based on local features, and a specific, β€œniche” offer. The starting assumption is that cultural and creative policies, based on the concept of clusters, may be the base of urban regeneration of smaller settlements. This is especially important in the context of Serbia, demographic and economic issues of small settlements and deliberation of implementation of such policies in urban regeneration. The second assumption is that methods and models of cultural and creative policies may be connected to spatial, cultural, and social characteristics, as well as characteristics of human resources, and that based on these it is possible to define the policy which corresponds to local conditions. In this context, the municipality of Golubac was selected as a representative example, due to the characteristics of the municipality and the projects which have been or are being implemented in it. The research was conducted by application of several scientific methods, applied in the area of town planning. The general scientific method employed was analyticalsynthetic, with critical content analysis, logical arguments, deductive method, and case study method. The first part of the research comprises an overview of theoretical analyses of cultural and creative policies, from their emergence, definitions, application of terms, the accompanying phenomenon of town development and related concepts; it comprises positive and negative results of their implementation; various examples from practice; theories and scientific discussions, which altogether point to their complexity and the need for a different approach. Based on the research of the theoretical base conducted, classification of methods and models of cultural and creative policies was defined with the aim to serve as a base for further analytical apparatus of this research

The effect different deposition regimes (constant and reversing currents), on the powdered copper electrodeposits morphology were investigated. The morphology of electrodeposited copper powder was investigated using a scanning electron microscope (SEM). The effect of the current amplitude, cathodic to anodic time ratio and period of the current wave are discussed. It is shown that the parameters determining the reversing current wave determine the micro-morphology of the copper powder particles deposited
