Thermal Fluctuations of the Electric Field in the Presence of Carrier Drift

We consider a semiconductor in a non-equilibrium steady state, with a dc current. On top of the stationary carrier motion there are fluctuations. It is shown that the stationary motion of the carriers (i.e., their drift) can have a profound effect on the electromagnetic field fluctuations in the bulk of the sample as well as outside it, close to the surface (evanescent waves in the near field). The effect is particularly pronounced near the plasma frequency. This is because drift leads to a significant modification of the dispersion relation for the bulk and surface plasmons.Comment: Comments are welcom

Search for the Radiative Capture d+d->^4He+\gamma Reaction from the dd\mu Muonic Molecule State

A search for the muon catalyzed fusion reaction dd --> ^4He +\gamma in the dd\mu muonic molecule was performed using the experimental \mu CF installation TRITON and NaI(Tl) detectors for \gamma-quanta. The high pressure target filled with deuterium at temperatures from 85 K to 800 K was exposed to the negative muon beam of the JINR phasotron to detect \gamma-quanta with energy 23.8 MeV. The first experimental estimation for the yield of the radiative deuteron capture from the dd\mu state J=1 was obtained at the level n_{\gamma}\leq 2\times 10^{-5} per one fusion.Comment: 9 pages, 3 Postscript figures, submitted to Phys. The paper provides a brief overview of domestic and foreign guidelines (manuals) for the design of composite steel and concrete structures: steel-concrete slabs on profiled flooring, combined beams, and columns with rigid reinforcement. The necessity of creation of the actual manual corresponding to the modernlevel of development of construction science, normative documents and design practiceslinked to the new formulary SP 266.1325800.2016 is proved. It will facilitate the design, reduce labor expenditures and improve the reliability of composite steel and concrete structures. The new guidance provides general recommendations for the design of composite steel and concrete structures and the basic regulations for the calculations. The new guidance describes recommendations for modeling of composite steel and concrete structures and elements in the calculated complexes, the recommendations for calculation of combined beams fully concreting rectangular and T-section, partially concreting along with support slab on the lower flange of the beam, columns with rigid reinforcement, shear a connection of composite beams. Recommendations on the registration of creep, shrinkage and crack formation in the appointment of the modulus of elasticity are given. Recommendations on the use of diagrams of the state of concrete, reinforcement, and steel in the calculation of steel-concrete elements on a nonlinear deformation model are given. Recommendations on the use of the range of sheet flooring for steel-reinforced concrete slabs, as well as metal profiles as steel beams and rigid reinforcement in the cross sections of columns and combined beams, are presented. Recommendations on a design of units and details of composite steel and concrete structures are given, refined recommendations on buffer are presented. The examples of connection of steel beams with columns with rigid reinforcement are given. The examples of calculation of composite steel and concrete structures taking subject to the recommendations given in the Manual are presented

External beam radiation therapy (EBRT) is currently an important component of the treatment of gastric cancer (GC). In accordance with international and domestic recommendations, it can be used in the postoperative period, before the operation and as a sole option, with a curative and palliative purpose, usually in combination with chemotherapy. With the transition of RT to a new technological level, which involves the use of conformal, intensively modulated regimens, and image guidance the revision of indications for and doses of EBRT is required. The article discusses modern approaches to the determination of irradiated volumes in various clinical scenarios of current radiation therapy for GC and strategies aimed at reducing the dose in critical organs at risk and increasing the overall effectiveness of treatment.

Abrasion resistance and compressive strength of unprocessed rice husk ash concrete

    Get PDF
This paper investigates the effects of adding natural rice husk ash collected from uncontrolled burning and without previous grinding (NRHA) as cement replacement in concrete. To obtain an adequate particle size, NRHA was mixed with coarse aggregate for a convenient period of time before adding the other components. Compressive strength, water absorption, porosity, and abrasion resistance expressed as weight loss were examined. Test results show that decreasing the particle size through mixing with coarse aggregate improved the compressive strength, reduced the permeability, and increased the abrasion resistance of concrete. By mixing NRHA with aggregate for 8 min, abrasion resistance improved by 10.35 and 23.62% over the control concrete at 28 and 91 days, respectively. Incorporating NRHA in concrete by grinding with coarse aggregate during the mixing process could be suitable for making normal-strength concrete and for applications where abrasion resistance is an important parameter. In addition, using NRHA as a partial replacement cement contributes to the reduction of CO2 emissions due to the production of cement
