Dielectric response due to stochastic motion of pinned domain walls

We study the contribution of stochastic motion of a domain wall (DW) to the dielectric AC susceptibility for low frequencies. Using the concept of waiting time distributions, which is related to the energy landscape of the DW in a disordered medium, we derive the power-law behavior of the complex susceptibility observed recently in some ferroelectrics below Curie temperature.Comment: 5 pages, 2 figures, revtex

Critical Behaviour of 3D Systems with Long-Range Correlated Quenched Defects

A field-theoretic description of the critical behaviour of systems with quenched defects obeying a power law correlations xa\sim |{\bf x}|^{-a} for large separations x{\bf x} is given. Directly for three-dimensional systems and different values of correlation parameter 2a32\leq a \leq 3 a renormalization analysis of scaling function in the two-loop approximation is carried out, and the fixed points corresponding to stability of the various types of critical behaviour are identified. The obtained results essentially differ from results evaluated by double ϵ,δ\epsilon, \delta - expansion. The critical exponents in the two-loop approximation are calculated with the use of the Pade-Borel summation technique.Comment: Submitted to J. Phys. A, Letter to Editor 9 pages, 4 figure

Induced Scattering and Two-Photon Absorption of Alfven Waves with Arbitrary Propagation Angles

The equation for temporary evolution of spectral energy of collisionless Alfven waves is derived in framework of weak turbulence theory. The main nonlinear processes for such conditions are induced scattering and two quantum absorption of Alfven waves by thermal ions. The equation for velocity distribution of thermal particles is derived that describes diffusion in momentum space due to this nonlinear processes. Comparison is done with the results of another authors. Results obtained are qualitatively differ from the ones obtained for the case of Alfven waves propagation along mean magnetic field.Comment: 8 page

Ionic Coulomb blockade and the determinants of selectivity in the NaChBac bacterial sodium channel

    Get PDF
Mutation-induced transformations of conductivity and selectivity in NaChBac bacterial channels are studied experimentally and interpreted within the framework of ionic Coulomb blockade (ICB), while also taking account of resonant quantised dehydration (QD) and site protonation. Site-directed mutagenesis and whole-cell patch-clamp experiments are used to investigate how the fixed charge Qf at the selectivity filter (SF) affects both valence selectivity and same-charge selectivity. The new ICB/QD model predicts that increasing |Qf | should lead to a shift in selectivity sequences towards larger ion sizes, in agreement with the present experiments and with earlier work. Comparison of the model with experimental data leads to the introduction of an effective charge Qf∗ at the SF, which was found to differ between Aspartate and Glutamate charged rings, and also to depend on position within the SF. It is suggested that protonation of the residues within the restricted space of the SF is important in significantly reducing the effective charge of the EEEE ring. Values of Qf∗ derived from experiments on divalent blockade agree well with expectations based on the ICB/QD model and have led to the first demonstration of ICB oscillations in Ca2+ conduction as a function of the fixed charge. Preliminary studies of the dependence of Ca2+ conduction on pH are qualitatively consistent with the predictions of the model

Background: Human aggression is a heterogeneous behavior with biological, psychological, and social backgrounds. As the biological mechanisms that regulate aggression are components of both reward-seeking and adversity-fleeing behavior, these phenomena are difficult to disentangle into separate neurochemical processes. Nevertheless, evidence exists linking some forms of ag

A Ni(III) complex stabilized by silica nanoparticles as an efficient nanoheterogeneous catalyst for oxidative C-H fluoroalkylation

    Get PDF
© The Royal Society of Chemistry 2016.We have developed NiIII-doped silica nanoparticles ([(bpy)xNiIII]@SiO2) as a recyclable, low-leaching, and efficient oxidative functionalization nanocatalyst for aromatic C-H bonds. The catalyst is obtained by doping the complex [(bpy)3NiII] on silica nanoparticles along with its subsequent electrooxidation to [(bpy)xNiIII] without an additional oxidant. The coupling reaction of arenes with perfluoroheptanoic acid occurs with 100% conversion of reactants in a single step at room temperature under nanoheterogeneous conditions. The catalyst content is only 1% with respect to the substrates under electrochemical regeneration conditions. The catalyst can be easily separated from the reaction mixture and reused a minimum of five times. The results emphasize immobilization on the silica support and the electrochemical regeneration of NiIII complexes as a facile route for developing an efficient nanocatalyst for oxidative functionalization

The three-dimensional randomly dilute Ising model: Monte Carlo results

    Get PDF
We perform a high-statistics simulation of the three-dimensional randomly dilute Ising model on cubic lattices L3L^3 with L256L\le 256. We choose a particular value of the density, x=0.8, for which the leading scaling corrections are suppressed. We determine the critical exponents, obtaining ν=0.683(3)\nu = 0.683(3), η=0.035(2)\eta = 0.035(2), β=0.3535(17)\beta = 0.3535(17), and α=0.049(9)\alpha = -0.049(9), in agreement with previous numerical simulations. We also estimate numerically the fixed-point values of the four-point zero-momentum couplings that are used in field-theoretical fixed-dimension studies. Although these results somewhat differ from those obtained using perturbative field theory, the field-theoretical estimates of the critical exponents do not change significantly if the Monte Carlo result for the fixed point is used. Finally, we determine the six-point zero-momentum couplings, relevant for the small-magnetization expansion of the equation of state, and the invariant amplitude ratio Rξ+R^+_\xi that expresses the universality of the free-energy density per correlation volume. We find Rξ+=0.2885(15)R^+_\xi = 0.2885(15).Comment: 34 pages, 7 figs, few correction
