De-Centering Dominance, Reclaiming Resilience
Although there is a significant body of literature bolstering the concept, the term “resilience” is often misused and abused in the academy at the expense of the most marginalized students and community members. In this article, I advocate for reclaiming resilience as using creativity to survive and challenge dominant views of resilience. Furthermore, I call for de-centering dominance in conversations about diversity and inclusion to represent and serve the needs of marginalized students navigating institutional barriers and systems that were never meant for them
Transcending Monosexism: Breaking Cycles and a Call for Nonmonosexual Liberation
Students who are attracted to more than one gender, referred to as nonmonosexual students, face many barriers in synthesizing their sexual orientation identities (Weinberg, Williams, & Pryor, 1994). Monosexism, a form of oppression that promotes exclusive heterosexual, lesbian, or gay behaviors as the only legitimate concepts of sexual orientation, inhibits the thriving of nonmonosexual students and fogs true understanding of nonmonosexuality (Rust, 2000a). Through the intentional study, discussion, understanding, and inclusion of non- monosexual experiences, student affairs professionals can better support these students’ development and growth in college and as they develop throughout their lifetimes
Business as Usual? Nonprofits in the US National Elite Network
Research in the United States on the distribution of power among elites at the national level has been primarily concerned with the role of business despite evidence from surveys of elite individuals themselves that points to a central core of powerful individuals inclusive of elites from the nonprofit sector. The literature all but ignores public charities in spite of the fact that charities often work with and for groups that seek to expand democratic participation and economic equality. The silence of elite research is particularly troubling given the dramatic growth of the public charity sector in terms of its size, diversity, and amount of resources. Despite this growth, however, some argue that public charities are relatively powerless because they are beholden to a corporate-financed network. Yet, I argue that public charities are potentially autonomous, and the empirical question becomes whether they have the capacity to promote their interests to other elites. The research that follows is part of a larger project that examines the interlocking directorates among the largest organizations in business and the nonprofit sector and looks at whether elite interaction networks are dominated by business—as usual
Yangian in the Twistor String
We study symmetries of the quantized open twistor string. In addition to
global PSL(4|4) symmetry, we find non-local conserved currents. The associated
non-local charges lead to Ward identities which show that these charges
annihilate the string gluon tree amplitudes, and have the same form as
symmetries of amplitudes in N=4 super conformal Yang Mills theory. We describe
how states of the open twistor string form a realization of the PSL(4|4)
Yangian superalgebra.Comment: 37 pages, 4 figure
Character Formulae and Partition Functions in Higher Dimensional Conformal Field Theory
A discussion of character formulae for positive energy unitary irreducible
representations of the the conformal group is given, employing Verma modules
and Weyl group reflections. Product formulae for various conformal group
representations are found. These include generalisations of those found by
Flato and Fronsdal for SO(3,2). In even dimensions the products for free
representations split into two types depending on whether the dimension is
divisible by four or not.Comment: 43 pages, uses harvmac, version 2 2 references added, minor typos

More Holography from Conformal Field Theory
We extend the work of [4] to support the conjecture that any conformal field
theory with a large N expansion and a large gap in the spectrum of anomalous
dimensions has a local bulk dual. We count to O(1/N^2) the solutions to the
crossing constraints in conformal field theory for a completely general scalar
four-point function and show that, to this order, the counting matches the
number of independent interactions in a general scalar theory on Anti-de Sitter
space. We introduce parity odd conformal blocks for this purpose.Comment: 19 page
Improving Tribal Collaboration in California\u27s Integrated Regional Water Management Program
Our research examines Integrated Regional Water Management (IRWM) policy-in-practice, which often reflects broader State exclusion of Tribal partners in natural resource policy, yet also provides potential opportunities for government-to-government collaboration and co-management. IRWM is the state of California’s chosen mechanism for collaborative water management. Our findings confirm that if Tribes and state or local jurisdictions were already working well together, the IRWM program has been beneficial to Tribal interests. In the Tuolumne-Stanislaus IRWM region, for example, the Regional Water Management Group (RWMG) facilitated a first of its kind voluntary water transfer between a Tribe and a local water agency. Conversely, in situations in which local governments and Tribal governments were adversarial, IRWM presents an additional barrier to Tribal participation in water policy and planning, despite Tribes’ Winters-affirmed federal reserved water rights. In all instances, we found it would significantly improve IRWM statewide to require RWMGs to: (a) engage in statutorily defined1 government-to-government consultation with Tribes and (b) provide seats for Tribal representation on RWMG governance bodies. By revising the IRWM program guidelines, the state of California can continue to address deeply institutionalized inequities within state water policy and management structures. Following the release of our recommendations, California Department of Water Resources (DWR) began holding workshops to examine revising the IRWM program guidelines. If DWR implements the findings from our study and requires Tribal participation in the governance of RWMGs, this could set a productive example for other states, as well as result in significant benefits in California water management
On finite--temperature and --density radiative corrections to the neutrino effective potential in the early Universe
Finite-temperature and -density radiative corrections to the neutrino
effective potential in the otherwise CP-symmetric early Universe are considered
in the real-time approach of Thermal Field Theory. A consistent perturbation
theory endowed with the hard thermal loop resummation techniques developed by
Braaten and Pisarski is applied. Special attention is focused on the question
whether such corrections can generate any nonzero contribution to the
CP-symmetric part of the neutrino potential, if the contact approximation for
the W-propagator is used.Comment: 11 pages, revtex styl
S-duality and 2d Topological QFT
We study the superconformal index for the class of N=2 4d superconformal
field theories recently introduced by Gaiotto. These theories are defined by
compactifying the (2,0) 6d theory on a Riemann surface with punctures. We
interpret the index of the 4d theory associated to an n-punctured Riemann
surface as the n-point correlation function of a 2d topological QFT living on
the surface. Invariance of the index under generalized S-duality
transformations (the mapping class group of the Riemann surface) translates
into associativity of the operator algebra of the 2d TQFT. In the A_1 case, for
which the 4d SCFTs have a Lagrangian realization, the structure constants and
metric of the 2d TQFT can be calculated explicitly in terms of elliptic gamma
functions. Associativity then holds thanks to a remarkable symmetry of an
elliptic hypergeometric beta integral, proved very recently by van de Bult.Comment: 25 pages, 11 figure
