NGC 7468: a galaxy with an inner polar disk
We present our spectroscopic observations of the galaxy NGC 7468 performed at
the 6-m Special Astrophysical Observatory telescope using the UAGS long-slit
spectrograph, the multipupil fiber spectrograph MPFS, and the scanning
Fabry-Perot interferometer (IFP). We found no significant deviations from the
circular rotation of the galactic disk in the velocity field in the regions of
brightness excess along the major axis of the galaxy (the putative polar ring).
Thus, these features are either tidal structures or weakly developed spiral
arms. However, we detected a gaseous disk at the center of the galaxy whose
rotation plane is almost perpendicular to the plane of the galactic disk. The
central collision of NGC 7468 with a gas-rich dwarf galaxy and their subsequent
merging seem to be responsible for the formation of this disk.Comment: 8 pages, 6 figures, accepted in Astronomy Letters, 2004, vol 30., N

SARS-CoV-2 coinfection in immunocompromised host leads to the generation of recombinant strain
Objectives: Recombination related to coinfection is a huge driving force in determining the virus genetic variability, particularly in conditions of partial immune control, leading to prolonged infection. Here, we characterized a distinctive mutational pattern, highly suggestive of Delta-Omicron double infection, in a lymphoma patient.
Methods: The specimen was characterized through a combined approach, analyzing the results of deep sequencing in primary sample, viral culture, and plaque assay.
Results: Bioinformatic analysis on the sequences deriving from the primary sample supports the hypothesis of a double viral population within the host. Plaque assay on viral culture led to the isolation of a recombinant strain deriving from Delta and Omicron lineages, named XS, which virtually replaced its parent lineages within a single viral propagation.
Conclusion: It is impossible to establish whether the recombination event happened within the host or in vitro; however, it is important to monitor co-infections, especially in the exceptional intrahost environment of patients who are immunocompromised, as strong driving forces of viral evolution

Trilingual education in China: perspectives from a university programme for minority students
Attention to trilingual education programmes in China has tended to focus on basic education; there had been little attention to date on the higher education sector. The present paper will attempt to bridge this gap by exploring a Yi-English-Chinese (YEC) trilingual education programme through case studies of three Yi students. We will start by briefly exploring multilingualism and minority participation in higher education in China, contextual issues important for an understanding of trilingual education. We will then describe the methodology employed to collect data from the students before analysing the life events which steer them to the programme, the ways in which they position themselves in relation to the three languages, and the implications for the delivery of the programme and the learning outcomes of students
Patent characteristics and patent ownership change in agricultural biotechnology
We examine the effect of various patent characteristics on changes in patent ownership that occurred due to mergers, acquisitions, and spin-offs in the agricultural biotechnology industry in the 1980s and 1990s. Our goal is to shed light on the role that certain patent qualities may play in the transfer of knowledge and technology that takes place through merger and acquisition activity. Specifically, we empirically measure the effect of patent value, scope/breadth, strength, and the nationality of the patent owner on the occurrence and frequency of patent ownership change in the agricultural biotechnology sector during the 1980s and 1990s. We find that the greater is the patent breadth and the less valuable and 'weaker' is the patent, the greater is the likelihood and the frequency of patent ownership change. Also, the nature of patent ownership affects patent ownership change, with patents owned by multiple owners of different nationalities most likely to change hands
