    The present work shows the results of an experiment aimed to evaluate the influence of storage ring current decrease on metrological characteristics of X-ray fluorescent analysis with synchrotron radiation of thin samples with biological matrix. It was shown experimentally that Compton peak normalization of the characteristic peak square сan be used not only to take into account sampling procedure differences (geometry and thickness of the samples) but also to take account of the decrease of the excitation radiation intensity. Key words: X-ray fluorescence analysis, synchrotron radiation, biological standards, evaluation procedure. (Russian)DOI: http://dx.doi.org/10.15826/analitika.2013.17.1.001 A.V.     Rare case of type II glycogen storage disease

    The article presents information about a rare case of Pompe disease. It is a glycogen storage disease. During the third screening of a pregnant woman, the ultrasonography of the fetus’s heart revealed the myocardial hypertrophy of the left ventricle perceived as posthypoxic. After delivery, the newborn underwent the ultrasound examination and molecular genetic studies. Firstly, the hepatomegaly and cardiomegaly were diagnosed. Then an infantile form of Pompe disease was found. The patient got enzyme replacement therapy without positive result. The death occurred at the age of 2 years and 5 months as a result of cardiovascular disease failure. Macroscopically, the sizes of the internal organs were increased. The microscopic examination demonstrated glycogen deposition in the myocardium, skeletal muscles, mucous membranes of the organs of the gastrointestinal tract, liver, kidney, spleen and adrenal gland

    The direct analysis of the biological tissue samples is a great advantage of the X-ray Fluorescent Technique with Synchrotron Radiation (SRXRF). SRXRF method is realized on the basis of INP SB RAS in Siberian Synchrotron and Terahertz Radiation Centre. In the present work, the whole liver tissue samples were dried under weight and analyzed in the form of parallel-plane fragments. The minimization of sample preparation procedures is known to significantly reduce the risks of the sample contamination and loss of analyte. The preparation procedure, which was used in the present work, was carried out without lyophilization, grinding and pelletizing of liver tissue samples. Elemental concentrations in the samples were calculated using the calibration and constructed on the basis of biological certified reference materials. It was found that there weren’t any significant differences between elemental concentrations in the case of the direct analysis of parallel-plane liver fragments and concentrations obtained for the same liver samples after grinding and pelletizing. Two unbroken samples and one grinded sample were measured 5 times to assess the reproducibility. The relative standard deviation for each sample was calculated, and it included both the assessment of the reproducibility and the heterogeneity of the elemental distribution in the sample. The validation of the results obtained by SRXRF method was estimated by the comparison with the results obtained by another method, namely by Two-Jet Plasma Atomic Emission Spectrometry (TJP-AES).     Microwave study of the effect of cold argon plasma on functional state of rat’s skin

    The purpose of this study was a comparative study of the dielectric parameters of rat skin when treated with argon and argon cold plasma. The experiment was performed on 40 male Wistar rats divided into 4 equal groups. The first group of animals (n=10) was a control (intact). The rats of the remaining groups (n=10 in each) were treated daily with a pre-epilated area of the skin of the back (area = 1x1 cm). The duration of the course for all experienced groups is 10 procedures. Animals of the second group were treated with a non–ionized argon stream (the duration of one procedure was 1 minute), rats of the third and fourth groups were treated with argon cold plasma (1 and 2 minutes, respectively). Cold plasma generation was performed using a device using the principle of microwave ionization of a gas stream. Argon of high purity (99.99%) was used as the latter. The dielectric parameters of the skin of animals in the treated area (in control group rats – at a similar point in the back) were evaluated upon completion of a full course of exposure. For this purpose, a specialized software and hardware complex was used, providing near-field resonant microwave probing of biological tissues. It was found that the course treatment of the skin of the back of rats with gas streams with different ionization causes the formation of a specific functional-metabolic and morpho-structural response. Its character is determined by the parameters of the gas flow used: non-ionized argon significantly reduces the dielectric parameters (permeability and conductivity), and the result of the action of cold argon plasma depends on the exposure. During one-minute treatment, tissue permeability was observed to remain intact with a moderate decrease in conductivity. In the case of an increase in the exposure time to 2 minutes, the dielectric constant increased, and the conductivity remained unchanged

    Assessment of the Macro-and Microelement Composition of Fly Ash from 50-Year-Old Ash Dumps in the Middle Urals (Russia)

    The paper considers the macro-and micro-element composition of two ash dumps in the Middle Urals, where meadow and forest communities have been spontaneously forming for 50 years, as well as the effect of the plants on the changing composition of the ash. Higher contents of Cu, Co, Sn, Ga, and Yb were found in the deep ash layers of both dumps, while in the upper 20-cm layer, the trace element composition depended on the influence of different plant communities. Higher contents of Sr, Cr, Ni, Sn, and Co were revealed under meadows, and Ba, Zr, and La were found under the forest. The levels of element accumulation in the aboveground and underground parts of dominant plants were revealed. Increased content of Be, Ce, Ga, La, Sc, Y, and Yb was detected in areas where meadow plants were dominant and Zn and Ba in forest areas. The toxic elements Cd and Pb were highly accumulated in both communities, whereas Co was found only in meadows. The studied materials can serve as a base to assess the feasibility of processing and/or utilizing fly ash from ash dumps in the Middle Urals and similar ash dumps in other regions situated in the southern taiga. © 2021 by the authors.     Clinical case of early diagnostics of essential arterial hypertension in a 6-year-old child, which is described in the article, shows that comprehensive medical examination in patients with persistent high blood pressure is required. Identification of genetic polymorphisms of arterial hypertension should be done to exclude secondary hypertension and define possible reasons for resistance to drug therapy and prognosis for the disease.На клиническом примере раннего дебюта эссенциальной артериальной гипертензии (АГ) у шестилетнего ребенка показана необходимость комплексного обследования пациентов со стойко повышенным артериальным давлением, включая генетическое обследование на полиморфизм генов АГ, позволяющего исключить вторичный генез артериальной гипертензии, определить вероятные причины резистентности к проводимой терапии и прогноз течения заболевания
