Boundary states for a free boson defined on finite geometries
Langlands recently constructed a map that factorizes the partition function
of a free boson on a cylinder with boundary condition given by two arbitrary
functions in the form of a scalar product of boundary states. We rewrite these
boundary states in a compact form, getting rid of technical assumptions
necessary in his construction. This simpler form allows us to show explicitly
that the map between boundary conditions and states commutes with conformal
transformations preserving the boundary and the reality condition on the scalar

Stochastic Reaction-diffusion Equations Driven by Jump Processes
We establish the existence of weak martingale solutions to a class of second
order parabolic stochastic partial differential equations. The equations are
driven by multiplicative jump type noise, with a non-Lipschitz multiplicative
functional. The drift in the equations contains a dissipative nonlinearity of

Filarial Lymphedema Is Characterized by Antigen- Specific Th1 and Th17 Proinflammatory Responses and a Lack of Regulatory T Cells
Background: Lymphatic filariasis can be associated with development of serious pathology in the form of lymphedema,
hydrocele, and elephantiasis in a subset of infected patients.
Methods and Findings: To elucidate the role of CD4+ T cell subsets in the development of lymphatic pathology, we
examined specific sets of cytokines in individuals with filarial lymphedema in response to parasite antigen (BmA) and
compared them with responses from asymptomatic infected individuals. We also examined expression patterns of Toll-like
receptors (TLR1â10) and Nod-like receptors (Nod1, Nod2, and NALP3) in response to BmA. BmA induced significantly higher
production of Th1-type cytokinesâIFN-c and TNF-aâin patients with lymphedema compared with asymptomatic
individuals. Notably, expression of the Th17 family of cytokinesâIL-17A, IL-17F, IL-21, and IL-23âwas also significantly
upregulated by BmA stimulation in lymphedema patients. In contrast, expression of Foxp3, GITR, TGFb, and CTLA-4, known
to be expressed by regulatory T cells, was significantly impaired in patients with lymphedema. BmA also induced
significantly higher expression of TLR2, 4, 7, and 9 as well Nod1 and 2 mRNA in patients with lymphedema compared with
asymptomatic controls.
Conclusion: Our findings implicate increased Th1/Th17 responses and decreased regulatory T cells as well as regulation of
Toll- and Nod-like receptors in pathogenesis of filarial lymphedema
We're in this Together: Sensation of the Host Cell Environment by Endosymbiotic Bacteria
Bacteria inhabit diverse environments, including the inside of eukaryotic cells. While a bacterial invader may initially act as a parasite or pathogen, a subsequent mutualistic relationship can emerge in which the endosymbiotic bacteria and their host share metabolites. While the environment of the host cell provides improved stability when compared to an extracellular environment, the endosymbiont population must still cope with changing conditions, including variable nutrient concentrations, the host cell cycle, host developmental programs, and host genetic variation. Furthermore, the eukaryotic host can deploy mechanisms actively preventing a bacterial return to a pathogenic state. Many endosymbionts are likely to use two-component systems (TCSs) to sense their surroundings, and expanded genomic studies of endosymbionts should reveal how TCSs may promote bacterial integration with a host cell. We suggest that studying TCS maintenance or loss may be informative about the evolutionary pathway taken toward endosymbiosis, or even toward endosymbiont-to-organelle conversion.Peer reviewe

Insights into mammalian transcription control by systematic analysis of ChIP sequencing data
Abstract Background Transcription regulation is a major controller of gene expression dynamics during development and disease, where transcription factors (TFs) modulate expression of genes through direct or indirect DNA interaction. ChIP sequencing has become the most widely used technique to get a genome wide view of TF occupancy in a cell type of interest, mainly due to established standard protocols and a rapid decrease in the cost of sequencing. The number of available ChIP sequencing data sets in public domain is therefore ever increasing, including data generated by individual labs together with consortia such as the ENCODE project. Results A total of 1735 ChIP-sequencing datasets in mouse and human cell types and tissues were used to perform bioinformatic analyses to unravel diverse features of transcription control. 1- We used the Heat*seq webtool to investigate global relations across the ChIP-seq samples. 2- We demonstrated that factors have a specific genomic location preferences that are, for most factors, conserved across species. 3- Promoter proximal binding of factors was more conserved across cell types while the distal binding sites are more cell type specific. 4- We identified combinations of factors preferentially acting together in a cellular context. 5- Finally, by integrating the data with disease-associated gene loci from GWAS studies, we highlight the value of this data to associate novel regulators to disease. Conclusion In summary, we demonstrate how ChIP sequencing data integration and analysis is powerful to get new insights into mammalian transcription control and demonstrate the utility of various bioinformatic tools to generate novel testable hypothesis using this public resource
