Interaction driven phases in the honeycomb lattice from exact diagonalization
We investigate the fate of interaction driven phases in the half-filled
honeycomb lattice for finite systems via exact diagonalization with nearest and
next nearest neighbour interactions. We find evidence for a charge density wave
phase, a Kekul\'e bond order and a sublattice charge modulated phase in
agreement with previously reported mean-field phase diagrams. No clear sign of
an interaction driven Chern insulator phase (Haldane phase) is found despite
being predicted by the same mean-field analysis. We characterize these phases
by their ground state degeneracy and by calculating charge order and bond order
correlation functions.Comment: 7 pages, 6 figures, updated reference
Design and Testing of a Composite Compressor Rotor
Additive manufacturing (AM) and molding are manufacturing methods known for building representations or replicas of conceptualized engine components, but was considered impractical for manufacturing operating engine components. More recent technology has rendered composite materials (combining high-temperature polymers and fiber reinforcement) capable of withstanding the temperature and structural requirements to compete with conventional turbomachinery metals. This study explores the application of several high-temperature polymers (ULTEM 9085, Onyx-Carbon fiber, and Epoxy-Carbon fiber) and their survivability in the operating conditions of a P400 Engine compressor. The tests conducted for this study determined their viability as compressor materials. This study required conducting tensile specimen testing, FEA modeling, and physical compressor spin testing. The results of each will be discussed
Valuation of Transferable Delivery Rights for Marketing Cooperatives
Delivery rights to a cooperative\u27s marketing pool can take on a value independent of the members\u27 equity share under certain conditions. Based on anecdotal information, transferable delivery rights become valuable when the pool is fixed in size (closed), members are protected from exploitation of quasi economic rents, and have an assured home for their production. The greater the potential buyers\u27 aversion to risk, the higher the value of the delivery right. The right has additional value if the cooperative generates a premium per unit return due to product differentiation and market power. Cooperatives competing with investor-owned firms in less than purely competitive markets must be able to pay equal net returns to members if they are to survive
NEUROELECTRIC THERAPY (NET) IN ADDICTION DETOXIFICATION
NeuroElectric Therapy (NET) is a benign and rapid, non-pharmacological detoxification treatment for the chemical dependent, either in-patient or out-patient, using very small amounts of electric current transcranially, with electtodes applied above the mastoid process. The pocketsize stimulator is used continuously for 7 to 10 days (3-4 days for nicotine), without supplementary drugs. Within this treatment period it eliminates the acute symptoms and also ameliorates the Chtonic Withdrawal Syndrome, which otherwise could last 18 months or longer, to a very substantial degree. By the end of treatment, 95% of 102 consecutive patients claimed they were free of craving, 75% that they were free of anxiery. NET has a reported drop-out rate of 1.6% over a period of seven years. The basis of this therapeutic success has been the marriage of precision clinical techniques to highly specific combinations of electrical current parameters, both developed over 20 years of reported clinical and research work. It is suggested that the mechanism of action may be the rapid restoration to normal of abnormal neurotransmitter levels by specific electrical signals. Clinical treatments and double-blind studies are briefly described and reviewed, with new data on sleep effects
