    Get PDF
Extracellular vesicles (EVs) are membranous vesicles that are released by both prokaryotic and eukaryotic cells into the extracellular microenvironment. EVs can be categorised as exosomes, ectosomes or shedding microvesicles and apoptotic bodies based on the mode of biogenesis. EVs contain biologically active cargo of nucleic acids, proteins, lipids and metabolites that can be altered based on the precise state of the cell. Vesiclepedia (http://www.microvesicles.org) is a web-based compendium of RNA, proteins, lipids and metabolites that are identified in EVs from both published and unpublished studies. Currently, Vesiclepedia contains data obtained from 1254 EV studies, 38 146 RNA entries, 349 988 protein entries and 639 lipid/metabolite entries. Vesiclepedia is publicly available and allows users to query and download EV cargo based on different search criteria. The mode of EV isolation and characterization, the biophysical and molecular properties and EV-METRIC are listed in the database aiding biomedical scientists in assessing the quality of the EV preparation and the corresponding data obtained. In addition, FunRich-based Vesiclepedia plugin is incorporated aiding users in data analysis

Full C-Band Tunable V-Cavity-Laser based TOSA and SFP Transceiver Modules

    Get PDF
We report the latest development in tunable transmitter optical sub-assembly (TOSA) and small form-factor pluggable (SFP) transceivers based on simple and compact V-cavity laser (VCL), aiming for low-cost deployment in metro, access and data center networks. The VCL employs a half-wave coupler to achieve high side-mode suppression ratio (SMSR) and the Vernier effect to achieve a wide wavelength tuning range. Full C-band tuning from 1529.55-nm to 1566.31-nm with SMSR above 36 dB is demonstrated. Since the laser does not involve any grating or epitaxial regrowth, and has a simple tuning algorithm, it allows simpler processes for fabrication and testing as compared to other widely tunable laser structures. Compact TOSAs and SFP transceiver modules have been developed for full C-band tuning with up to 93 channels at 50 GHz spacing. Transmission experiments are carried out for direct modulation with data rates from 2.5 Gbps to 8.5 Gbps. The results of reliability tests of the modules are also presented

Background: Acute Kidney Injury (AKI) refers to a reversible accumulation of urea, creatinine and nitrogenous waste products and disturbances in maintenance of fluid and electrolyte homeostasis. The incidence of AKI continues to increase in the Paediatric age group particularly in critically ill children with the etiology shifting from primary renal disorders to multifactorial cause. The objective of the study to determine the incidence, clinical profile and outcome of AKI in critically ill children using p-RIFLE criteria. Methods: A prospective observational study was done with 342 children aged between 1-12 years, admitted in Paediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) of Institute of Child Health and Research Centre, Madurai Medical College, Madurai during July 2015 to June 2016.Results: The overall incidence of AKI among critically ill children was 30.1%. The mortality rate was 43.7% and 20.7% patients with AKI had partial renal recovery at the time of discharge. 27.2% patients required renal replacement therapy (RRT). Infectious causes 57.3% (Sepsis, Meningoencephalitis, Bronchopneumonia) dominated the etiological profile. Conclusions: Incidence of AKI is high in critically-ill children. AKI continues to be associated with adverse outcomes, including high mortality and partial renal recovery

    Get PDF
Automatic inspection systems become more importance for industries with high productive plans especially in texture industry. A novel approach to Local Binary Pattern (LBP) feature for texture classification is proposed in this system. At the first, the proposed Empirical Wavelet Transform (EWT) based texture classification is tested on gray scale and color images by using Brodatz texture images. The gray scale and color image is decomposed by EWT at 2 and 3 level of decomposition. LBP features are calculated for each empirical transformed image. Extracted features are given as input to the classification stage. K-NN classifier is used for classification stage. The result of the proposed system gives satisfactory classification accuracy of over 98% for all types of images

    Get PDF
New method of secure image encryption and decryption scheme based on the chaos is proposed. There are two steps are followed after the preprocessing step in the proposed system namely, Encryption and Decryption. In preprocessing, images are denoised using median filter. Then the original input images will be encrypted by using the chaos mapping algorithm. At last the original images are retrieved back from the encrypted image by using the key that is specified during the encryption process for the decryption of the original images. Then the histogram mapping is done for the encrypted and the decrypted images. The proposed system is tested on well-known images like Lena, Mandrill, Clown and Barbara. The experimental results have demonstrated that the introduced image encryption scheme can achieve high security for practical image encryption
