Teaching Techniques: The Opinion of Teachers in Second Chance Schools and Evening Education Schools in the Greek District of Ioannina
The contemporary financial and social changes demand the constant update of the existent knowledge and the acquisition of new skills especially in the cases of people of low socioeconomic status who have not completed the basic education. The present case study examines the attitudes and perceptions of educators of Schools of Second Chance and in the Evening Junior High schools of the Greek district of Ioannina. In the study educators were asked to answer a questionnaire. The findings show that educators have a sufficient and good knowledge of the educational methods yet it seems that in the Evening High schools the educators are better educated concerning these educational techniques in comparison with those of Schools of Second Chance. The vast majority of the educators think that the application of the methods is very important, 25% of the sample has good knowledge of the available teaching means in the school units while the knowledge of the educators for the application of these techniques is positively correlated with its application in practice. Last but not least, the analysis has shown that the available time affects the use of the educational techniques and that the use of these specific techniques by some teachers increases the possibility of their use from their colleagues
Covid-19 disease, women’s predominant non-heparin vaccine-induced thrombotic thrombocytopenia and kounis syndrome: A passepartout cytokine storm interplay
Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) and severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) constitute one of the deadliest pandemics in modern history demonstrating cardiovascular, gastrointestinal, hematologic, mucocutaneous, respiratory, neurological, renal and testicular manifestations and further complications. COVID-19-induced excessive immune response accompanied with uncontrolled release of cytokines culminating in cytokine storm seem to be the common pathogenetic mechanism of these complications. The aim of this narrative review is to elucidate the relation between anaphylaxis associated with profound hypotension or hypoxemia with pro-inflammatory cytokine release. COVID-19 relation with Kounis syndrome and post-COVID-19 vaccination correlation with heparin-induced thrombocytopenia with thrombosis (HITT), especially serious cerebral venous sinus thrombosis, were also reviewed. Methods: A current literature search in PubMed, Embase and Google databases was performed to reveal the pathophysiology, prevalence, clinical manifestation, correlation and treatment of COVID-19, anaphylaxis with profuse hypotension, Kounis acute coronary syndrome and thrombotic events post vaccination. Results: The same key immunological pathophysiology mechanisms and cells seem to underlie COVID-19 cardiovascular complications and the anaphylaxis-associated Kounis syndrome. The myocardial injury in patients with COVID-19 has been attributed to coronary spasm, plaque rupture and microthrombi formation, hypoxic injury or cytokine storm disposing the same pathophysiology with the three clinical variants of Kounis syndrome. COVID-19-interrelated vaccine excipients as polysorbate, polyethelene glycol (PEG) and trometamol constitute potential allergenic substances. Conclusion: Better acknowledgement of the pathophysiological mechanisms, clinical similarities, multiorgan complications of COVID-19 or other viral infections as dengue and human immunodeficiency viruses along with the action of inflammatory cells inducing the Kounis syndrome could identify better immunological approaches for prevention, treatment of the COVID-19 pandemic as well as post-COVID-19 vaccine adverse reactions
Transformational leadership and innovative climate in the administration of the school unit: The case of high schools of northern domain of Athens – ordinary and model schools
The present article examines the degree in which the school principals, in the secondary education, apply transformational leadership and investigates their contribution in cultivating and forming an innovative climate in the school unit. This is the major objective of the study in transforming the centralised management system of the school unit. The innovation of this research lies on two axes, that have not yet been sufficiently studied in Greece: (a) on teachers’, vice principals’ and principals’ beliefs on subjects related to the administration of a school unit and (b) on the comparison of two school types, the ordinary ones and the model ones. A qualitative methodology was adapted in the research for reasons of immediacy and accuracy. The findings show that the role of the principal is crucial to the school’s effectiveness and its smooth operation. Principals’ lack of vision and inability to change, create resistance to a decentralised school management system. In conclusion, the transformational leadership style and innovation appear mostly in model schools. Copyright © 2022 Inderscience Enterprises Ltd
Scholars Journal of Agriculture and Veterinary Sciences Continuing vocational training of farmers: the case of young farmers in the Greek district of Imathia
Abstract: This paper aims at identifying the views of young farmers of Imathia Perfecture for continuing education and explore their expectations of future programs, in order to exploit the design of new educational programs. The survey involved 14 young farmers of the county. Research under the qualitative approach, used the semi-structured interview as a tool for data collection. Research findings showed that young farmers understand the benefits and importance of continuing education although is difficult to define precisely. As for future projects they wish to include more practical to approach issues of new crops and farming techniques, but also issues about promotional products such as marketing. Although they learn mainly through non-formal learning, they consider that the most appropriate way of learning is the organized educational programs with greater specificity. They want to participate in the design of programs that concern them and are ready to accept different teaching methods such as problem solving and travel a short distance to participate in education
Comparative presentation of the legislative framework for the selection of staff in the Greek educational system: A critical review
The present paper presents - for the first time in Greece - a critical review of the legislative framework of the selection systems of educational staff in Greece. The poor managerial educational background of staff that occupies managerial positions, the lack of assessment during the term of office, the lack of stability of the selection system are the main issues discussed with regard to the system of staff selection in the Greek educational system. The present critical review is of great significance for Greek policy makers, as it may impact and help formulate future educational policy on the selection of educational staff. It also constitutes a valuable paradigm for other countries that face similar issues with regard to the selection of staff in their educational systems. An important gap in literature is filled through this study and policies that are of great importance for the effectiveness of an educational system are brought to light in a comprehensive way. An innovative approach to entrepreneurship in higher and secondary education: Cultural routes and economy of experience - A case study
The aim of the present study is to present how social entrepreneurship can find its place in higher and secondary education by involving students, through experiential learning, in the creative development of solutions for sustainable development of an area with rich cultural heritage. To this end, the present study followed the qualitative research method and constitutes a case-study of the town of Orchomenus in Boeotia, Greece. This case-study is based on field-research at the important historical monuments of the area organised by the DIAZOMA Association and the Teacher Education Program of Athens University of Economics and Business. Proposals made by groups of the student-teachers were formed through the research method and aimed at exploiting the rich heritage of the area in favour of its financial and cultural development, and showed that students' ideas were diverse, following objective and realistic criteria that responded to the needs and prospects of Orchomenus town. The study is the first of its kind in Greece and abroad, as it introduces for the first time the way students can learn the notions of social entrepreneurship and cultural sustainability through field-research and the project method.
