The objective of this study was to evaluate the results of osteometric analyses applied to camelid bones samples from Moche sites (I and VII AD) located on the north coast of Peru. The bones analyzed in this study correspond to first phalanges from two Moche archaeological sites (Cerro Chepén and Moche Urban Zone). Discriminant analysis was conducted on a sample of 44 first phalanges, taking into account five measurments in each bone. The results showed the identification in both sites of two species of domestic camelids, Lama glama “llama” and Lama pacos“alpaca.” The interpretation of the results is discussed by explaining a model of geographic or vicariant speciation of camelids that inhabited the coast of Peru during Moche times. This model takes into account that in this environment currently camelids are not breed, as well as genetics and evolutionary factors in the new domestic form, the effect of Bergmann’s Rule, and new grasses in the morphology of this new form of domestic camelid, ,which lived in the region at the time of Moche

The culture response of maize seeds and embryos of the Chimu epoch of about
700 years has been studied. White tissue growth has been observed on
embryos from a cob recovered from excavations at the El Brujo site (Chicama
valley, Peru). Other cellular life evidences were detected, like cytoplasmic
movements similar to cyclosis. The cultures of these embryos allowed to
recover good-quality DNA, which was amplified by RAPD. This has allowed to
study the biodiversity of such ancient material and to compare it to maize
germplasm accessions at the CIMMYT that had been stored for more than 50
years. Yet, it has not been possible to induce the ancient seed germination nor
the plant regeneration from the embryos with the culture conditions tested in
this work. Yet, since the tests carried out indicate that the ancient seeds contain
live tissue, it could be possible to obtain maize plants from them, if appropriate,
albeit so far unknown, culture media were used.
The results obtained by microscopic study of seven samples of fibers derived from
skin (leather) of mammals, which were covered with human burials of the
Chachapoyas culture in the province of Luya are presented. The identification of the
fibers indicate the use of skins Odocoileus virginianus "white-tailed deer," Lama
glama "llama" and Tremarctos ornatus "spectacled bear" in Juanitapunku,
Lenganche and Yosumal sites. The skins of spectacled bears were used in burials
Yosumal site, and indicate a ritual ideology refers to the human-wildlife relationship.
Through microscopic analysis of fractional calculus of incisors and premolars an
individual sacrificed on the top shelf of the Huaca Cao Viejo, corresponding to
the Moche period, could isolate and identify starch grains Phaseolus vulgaris
"bean", Solanum tuberosum "potato" and Zea mays "maize". These starch
grains identified, are direct evidence of consumption of these food plants, in
which the discovery of starch grains "potato" is highlighted, implying that this
individual was consuming the tuber, whose macrobotanical evidence is not
registered for this time. These results are very important because they will allow
for future analysis with this kind of evidence and accessible technique for future
