    A revision of Ziziphus (Rhamnaceae) in Borneo

    The genus Ziziphus (Rhamnaceae) is revised for Borneo. 13 species are recognised using morphological evidence, including three new endemic species: Ziziphus cuspidata, Z. domatiata and Z. puberula. Borneo is therefore the island with the greatest known diversity of Ziziphus species. The area surrounding Mount Kinabalu is particularly diverse, with nine species occurring in Ranau. Two new varieties of Z. borneensis are also described here, Z. borneensis var. ranggam and Z. borneensis var. velutina, five new synonyms are established, including the placement of Z. elmeri as a synonym of Colubrina beccariana. A taxonomic treatment, including a preliminary IUCN conservation status assessment, is presented for each species and variety

    Ardisia recurvipetala (Primulaceae-Myrsinoideae), a new species from northern Peninsular Malaysia

    Recent fieldwork in Terengganu, Peninsular Malaysia, resulted in the collection of an endemic new species of Ardisia, described here as Ardisia recurvipetala Julius, Siti-Munirah & Utteridge. The species is a member of subgenus (§) Crispardisia on account of its vascularised glands (bacterial nodules) on the leaf margin and the terminal inflorescence on a specialised lateral branch subtended by a normal leaf (rather than a reduced bract-like leaf). Ardisia recurvipetala is unique amongst all members of §Crispardisia by having leaf margins with both vascularised glands and pustule-like structures and can be further distinguished from other Peninsular Malaysian members of this subgenus by the lamina raised between the leaf venation giving a somewhat bullate appearance, unbranched inflorescences, brownish-red pedicels and recurved corolla lobes, each with a creamy-white apex and a small pink patch at the base. Ardisia recurvipetala is known only from a single location in Terengganu and its conservation status is assessed as Data Deficient (DD)

    Cinq nouvelles espèces d’Urophyllum Wall. endémiques du Cambodge et du Viêtnam sont décrites et illustrées ici, et U. annamense (Pierre ex Pit.) Yooprasert, Culham &amp; Utteridge, stat. nov. est élevé au rang d’espèce. Les nouvelles espèces sont uniques en raison de la combinaison morphologique de l’indumentum, de la nervation secondaire, de la forme de la stipule et de la structure de l’inflorescence, ainsi : U. bidoupense Yooprasert, Culham &amp; Utteridge, sp. nov. : plante presque glabre, nervures secondaires faiblement brochidodromes, stipule glabre, oblongue-lancéolée ; U. chinense subsp. latistipulum Yooprasert, Culham, Yahara &amp; Utteridge, subsp. nov. : apparence similaire à l’U. bidoupense mais diffère par une stipule ovale à elliptique, velue le long de la ligne médiane ; U. brochidodromum Yooprasert, Culham &amp; Utteridge, sp. nov. : tige et branches velues, surface adaxiale des feuilles velue sur la nervure médiane et les nervures secondaires, nervures secondaires ostensiblement brochidodromes, stipule velue, lancéolée ; U. pulchristipulum Yooprasert, Culham &amp; Utteridge, sp. nov. : plante glabre, nervures secondaires ostensiblement brochidodromes, stipule glabre et subcordée, inflorescence sessile ; U. pseudoschmidtii Yooprasert, Culham, Yahara, Tagane &amp; Utteridge, sp. nov. : tige et branches velues à subglabres, veines secondaires festonnées-brochidodromes, stipule peu ou densément velue, linéaire-lancéolée à oblongue-lancéolée, fleur pistillée sans staminodes.     The Winteraceae comprise 100 – 130 species in five to nine genera. The genus is currently thought to have a Papuasian-Pacific distribution and is only known from the western Pacific islands (New Caledonia, Vanuatu and the Solomon Islands), Australia and New Guinea, including the far western Bird’s Head Peninsula, but is not yet recorded from islands to the west of the Sahul Plate and the biogeographic boundary of Lydekker’s Line. Here, two new species of are described from west of both Wallace’s and Lydekker’s Lines. is described from the Moluccan islands of Indonesia, and , a new species and generic record for the Sunda shelf, is described from the northern part of the Malaysian State of Sarawak in Borneo.
