    Tracing planet-induced structures in circumstellar disks using molecular lines

    Circumstellar disks are considered to be the birthplace of planets. Specific structures like spiral arms, gaps, and cavities are characteristic indicators of planet-disk interaction. Investigating these structures can provide insights into the growth of protoplanets and the physical properties of the disk. We investigate the feasibility of using molecular lines to trace planet-induced structures in circumstellar disks. Based on 3D hydrodynamic simulations of planet-disk interactions, we perform self-consistent temperature calculations and produce N-LTE molecular line velocity-channel maps and spectra of these disks using our new N-LTE line radiative transfer code Mol3D. Subsequently, we simulate ALMA observations using the CASA simulator. We consider two nearly face-on inclinations, 5 disk masses, 7 disk radii, and 2 different typical pre-main-sequence host stars (T Tauri, Herbig Ae). We calculate up to 141 individual velocity-channel maps for five molecules/isotopoloques in a total of 32 rotational transitions to investigate the frequency dependence of the structures indicated above. We find that the majority of protoplanetary disks in our parameter space could be detected in the molecular lines considered. However, unlike the continuum case, gap detection is not straightforward in lines. For example, gaps are not seen in symmetric rings but are masked by the pattern caused by the global (Keplerian) velocity field. We identify specific regions in the velocity-channel maps that are characteristic of planet-induced structures. Simulations of high angular resolution molecular line observations demonstrate the potential of ALMA to provide complementary information about the planet-disk interaction as compared to continuum observations.     High-Speed imaging reveals opposing effects of chronic stress and antidepressants on neuronal activity propagation through the hippocampal trisynaptic circuit

    Antidepressants (ADs) are used as first-line treatment for most stress-related psychiatric disorders. The alterations in brain circuit dynamics that can arise from stress exposure and underlie therapeutic actions of ADs remain, however, poorly understood. Here, enabled by a recently developed voltage-sensitive dye imaging (VSDI) assay in mouse brain slices, we examined the impact of chronic stress and concentration-dependent effects of eight clinically used ADs (belonging to different chemical/functional classes) on evoked neuronal activity propagations through the hippocampal trisynaptic circuitry (HTC: perforant path -> dentate gyrus (DG) -> area CA3 -> area CA1). Exposure of mice to chronic social defeat stress led to markedly weakened activity propagations ("HTC-Waves"). In contrast, at concentrations in the low micromolar range, all ADs, which were bath applied to slices, caused an amplification of HTC-Waves in CA regions (invariably in area CA1). The fast-acting "antidepressant" ketamine, the mood stabilizer lithium, and brain derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF) exerted comparable enhancing effects, whereas the antipsychotic haloperidol and the anxiolytic diazepam attenuated HTC-Waves. Collectively, we provide direct experimental evidence that chronic stress can depress neuronal signal flow through the HTC and demonstrate shared opposing effects of ADs. Thus, our study points to a circuit level mechanism of ADs to counteract stress-induced impairment of hippocampal network function. However, the observed effects of ADs are impossible to depend on enhanced neurogenesis

    Nonlinear viscosity and velocity distribution function in a simple longitudinal flow

    A compressible flow characterized by a velocity field ux(x,t)=ax/(1+at)u_x(x,t)=ax/(1+at) is analyzed by means of the Boltzmann equation and the Bhatnagar-Gross-Krook kinetic model. The sign of the control parameter (the longitudinal deformation rate aa) distinguishes between an expansion (a>0a>0) and a condensation (a<0a<0) phenomenon. The temperature is a decreasing function of time in the former case, while it is an increasing function in the latter. The non-Newtonian behavior of the gas is described by a dimensionless nonlinear viscosity η(a)\eta^*(a^*), that depends on the dimensionless longitudinal rate aa^*. The Chapman-Enskog expansion of η\eta^* in powers of aa^* is seen to be only asymptotic (except in the case of Maxwell molecules). The velocity distribution function is also studied. At any value of aa^*, it exhibits an algebraic high-velocity tail that is responsible for the divergence of velocity moments. For sufficiently negative aa^*, moments of degree four and higher may diverge, while for positive aa^* the divergence occurs in moments of degree equal to or larger than eight.Comment: 18 pages (Revtex), including 5 figures (eps).     La revisió de citacions bibliogràfiques situades a les Planes de Son i la Mata de València (municipi d’Alt Àneu, Pallars Sobirà) ha permès identificar 33 espècies de mol·luscs (set de les quals corresponents a llimacs) presents històricament en la zona. Una campanya de camp portada a terme recentment (2006–2007) ha detectat 50 espècies de mol·luscs no-llimacs, dues de les quals representades amb dues subespècies cadascuna. Es proporcionen les dades detallades dels dos inventaris faunístics. Paraules clau: Pirineus, Fauna, Mollusca.The survey of bibliograpic information on the presence of molluscs at the Planes de Son and Mata de València (municipality of Alt Àneu, county of Pallars Sobirà, Catalan Pyrenees) has accounted for a list of 33 species of molluscs (seven of them are slugs) inhabiting historically this area. A current field survey (2006-2007) has detected 50 species of molluscs not slugs, two of these species are splitted in two subspecies. Detailed data from both faunistic inventories are provided.     A Double Fragmentation Approach for Improving Virtual Primary Key-Based Watermark Synchronization

    Relational data watermarking techniques using virtual primary key schemes try to avoid compromising watermark detection due to the deletion or replacement of the relation's primary key. Nevertheless, these techniques face the limitations that bring high redundancy of the generated set of virtual primary keys, which often compromises the quality of the embedded watermark. As a solution to this problem, this paper proposes double fragmentation of the watermark by using the existing redundancy in the set of virtual primary keys. This way, we guarantee the right identification of the watermark despite the deletion of any of the attributes of the relation. The experiments carried out to validate our proposal show an increment between 81.04% and 99.05% of detected marks with respect to previous solutions found in the literature. Furthermore, we found out that our approach takes advantage of the redundancy present in the set of virtual primary keys. Concerning the computational complexity of the solution, we performed a set of scalability tests that show the linear behavior of our approach with respect to the processes runtime and the number of tuples involved, making it feasible to use no matter the amount of data to be protected

    HQR-Scheme: A High Quality and resilient virtual primary key generation approach for watermarking relational data

    Most of the watermarking techniques designed to protect relational data often use the Primary Key (PK) of relations to perform the watermark synchronization. Despite offering high confidence to the watermark detection, these approaches become useless if the PK can be erased or updated. A typical example is when an attacker wishes to use a stolen relation, unlinked to the rest of the database. In that case, the original values of the PK lose relevance, since they are not employed to check the referential integrity. Then, it is possible to erase or replace the PK, compromising the watermark detection with no need to perform the slightest modification on the rest of the data. To avoid the problems caused by the PK-dependency some schemes have been proposed to generate Virtual Primary Keys (VPK) used instead. Nevertheless, the quality of the watermark synchronized using VPKs is compromised due to the presence of duplicate values in the set of VPKs and the fragility of the VPK schemes against the elimination of attributes. In this paper, we introduce the metrics to allow precise measuring of the quality of the VPKs generated by any scheme without requiring to perform the watermark embedding. This way, time waste can be avoided in case of low-quality detection. We also analyze the main aspects to design the ideal VPK scheme, seeking the generation of high-quality VPK sets adding robustness to the process. Finally, a new scheme is presented along with the experiments carried out to validate and compare the results with the rest of the schemes proposed in the literature
