    AgBioData consortium recommendations for sustainable genomics and genetics databases for agriculture

    The future of agricultural research depends on data. The sheer volume of agricultural biological data being produced today makes excellent data management essential. Governmental agencies, publishers and science funders require data management plans for publicly funded research. Furthermore, the value of data increases exponentially when they are properly stored, described, integrated and shared, so that they can be easily utilized in future analyses. AgBioData (https://www.agbiodata.org) is a consortium of people working at agricultural biological databases, data archives and knowledgbases who strive to identify common issues in database development, curation and management, with the goal of creating database products that are more Findable, Accessible, Interoperable and Reusable. We strive to promote authentic, detailed, accurate and explicit communication between all parties involved in scientific data. As a step toward this goal, we present the current state of biocuration, ontologies, metadata and persistence, database platforms, programmatic (machine) access to data, communication and sustainability with regard to data curation. Each section describes challenges and opportunities for these topics, along with recommendations and best practices

    Copyright © 2020 IGI Global. Wave transmission through soil due to dynamic load causes many problems to civil engineers craving safe construction. In this article, a laboratory model study is conducted to investigate the vibration propagation characteristics of soil due to the falling masses at different depths. Different types of impact, soils, and relative densities are used to study the characteristics of vibration transmission and energy dissipation. It was found that the increase in relative density and decrease in the depth causes an increase in the Peak Particle Acceleration and wave velocity of soil. An attempt is also made to determine the dynamic properties of soil using wave velocity ratios. A simple laboratory arrangement discussed here can be used to predict the wave propagation in soil reasonably and can determine its elastic constants. From the studies, it was revealed that the wave travel in soil and the peak particle acceleration depends on many factors like density, particle gradation, impact energy, etc

    Developing procedures for assessment of ecological status of Indian River basins in the context of environmental water requirements

    This report attempts to introduce a prototype scoring system for the ecological status of rivers in India and illustrate it through the applications in several major river basins. This system forms part of the desktop environmental flow assessment and is based on a number of indicators reflecting ecological condition and sensitivity of a river. The unique aspect of this study is that it interprets, for the first time, the existing ecological information for Indian rivers in the context of environmental flow assessment. The report targets government departments, research institutions and NGOs which are engaged in environmental flow management and associated policy development, and suggests some subsequent steps in environmental flow work in India

The wide spread use of mobile devices, such as smart phones, tablets and PDAs, facilitates the delivery of a variety of highly targeted interactive advertising messages including the use of mobile games as a media. As the phenomenon is new, the literature on mobile in-game advertising is very scarce. The objective of this research is to bridge this gap by studying the consumers’ general attitudes towards mobile in-game banner advertising (IGBA) as an advertising format and how effective is reward incentives affects the game players’ attitude towards banner advertisements and consequent actions in the mobile game context. A survey research was completed in October 2012, with 426 responses from Finland. The results show that tangible and flexible reward scheme with a link to location based rewards where mobile gamers can redeem physically by converting the points achieved from their game plays, are effective to positively affect their attitudes and intention to take actions
