Disability Benefits Available Under the Social Security Disability Insurance (SSDI) and Veterans Disability Compensation (VDC) Programs
[Excerpt] Social Security Disability Insurance (SSDI) and Veterans Disability Compensation (VDC)— administered by the Social Security Administration (SSA) and the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) respectively—are two of the largest federal disability programs, but strongly differ along several dimensions, including the populations served, how each program defines a “disability,” as well as varying eligibility requirements.
This report provides a description and comparative analysis of the SSDI and VDC programs. These issues will be of particular interest to Congress because of the expected increase in the numbers of SSDI and VDC claims. The recent economic decline and aging baby-boomers have continued to place a strain on SSA’s resources. The aging of the veteran population and expansion of presumptive conditions policies have contributed to the increase in VDC claims

Social Security Disability Insurance (SSDI): The Five-Month Waiting Period for Benefits
[Excerpt] Social Security Disability Insurance (SSDI) is authorized by Title II of the Social Security Act and provides income replacement for eligible individuals who are unable to work due to a long-term injury or illness that is expected to last at least one year or result in death. Current eligibility requirements include (1) verification of an applicant’s disability, (2) filing a claim, (3) a “recent work” and “duration of work” test, (4) verification that an individual has not reached normal retirement age, and (5) a five-month waiting period from disability-onset.
In implementing the five-month waiting period for SSDI benefits, Congress sought to set a time frame that would be long enough for a short-term injury or illness to be corrected, but would also deter individuals who can work from applying for benefits. The first month counted as part of the waiting period can be no more than 17 months before the month of application, and benefits can be applied retroactively for up to 12 months. The Social Security Administration (SSA) encourages eligible individuals to apply for benefits as soon as possible after the onset of a disabling condition.
The waiting period does not apply to individuals who have been previous recipients of SSDI in the five years prior to any current disability. Several other programs, such as Supplemental Security Income (SSI), temporary disability insurance, workers’ compensation, unemployment compensation, and private disability insurance, can provide funds for eligible SSDI applicants facing financial hardship during the five-month wait period.

Veterans’ Benefits: The Impact of Military Discharges on Basic Eligibility
[Excerpt] This report discusses the discharge or separation requirement for veteran status or, more specifically, how the VA assesses character of service to determine whether a former service member’s separation from the military can be considered other than dishonorable. In some instances, the military characterization of discharge is relatively uncomplicated, creating a binding entitlement to VA benefits (i.e., an honorable or general discharge [under honorable conditions]), assuming the individual meets other eligibility requirements for veteran status. However, if the characterization of discharge may preclude access to veteran’s benefits, the VA must develop the case, through an assessment of service records and other evidence related to a claimant’s time in the military. Tujuan penelitian ini adalah: untuk mengetahui kinerja dosen dalam melakukan penelitian untuk peningkatan mutu pendidikan tinggi swasta pada Universitas Serambi Mekkah. Penelitian ini menggunakan pendekatan kualitatif dengan metode deskriptif. Teknik pengumpulan data yaitu: wawancara, observasi, studi dokumentasi. Teknik analisis data dengan reduksi data, display data, mengambil kesimpulan dan verifikasi. Subjek penelitian ini adalah Rektor, Dosen, dan Mahasiswa pada perguruan tinggi swasta pada universitas serambi mekkah. Berdasarkan hasil penelitian diperoleh bahwa: (1) Kualitas proposal dosen dalam melakukan penelitian untuk peningkatan mutu pendidikan tinggi swasta pada Universitas Serambi Mekkah harus meningkatkan kualitas diri dengan memahami dan meningkatkan kompetensi diri, memiliki keterampilan dalam menghasilkan proposal dosen dalam melakukan penelitian, yang lebih inovasi dan kreatifitas yang tinggi sehingga berjalan dengan baik, secara efektif dan efisien; (2) Kemampuan pelaksanaan penelitian dosen dalam melakukan penelitian untuk peningkatan mutu pendidikan tinggi swasta pada Universitas Serambi Mekkah sudah menunjukkan kenaikan dari tahun sebelumnya; (3) Strategi untuk mempublikasikan hasil penelitian dosen dalam melakukan penelitian untuk peningkatan mutu pendidikan tinggi swasta pada Universitas Serambi Mekkah adalah pelatihan metodologi dan etika penelitian ilmiah, penyediaan sarana dan fasilitas, pengaturan beban jam mengajar, dan mendukung dana atau membantu menghubungkan dengan lembaga yang dapat membiayai proyek penelitian mereka.Kata Kunci: Kinerja Dosen dan Peningkatan Mutu Pendidika
A survey of QoS-aware web service composition techniques
Web service composition can be briefly described as the process of aggregating services with disparate functionalities into a new composite service in order to meet increasingly complex needs of users. Service composition process has been accurate on dealing with services having disparate functionalities, however, over the years the number of web services in particular that exhibit similar functionalities and varying Quality of Service (QoS) has significantly increased. As such, the problem becomes how to select appropriate web services such that the QoS of the resulting composite service is maximized or, in some cases, minimized. This constitutes an NP-hard problem as it is complicated and difficult to solve. In this paper, a discussion of concepts of web service composition and a holistic review of current service composition techniques proposed in literature is presented. Our review spans several publications in the field that can serve as a road map for future research
Implementasi Pendekatan Pembelajaran Kontekstual dengan Hypnoteaching untuk Mereduksi Tingkat Kecemasan Matematika (Mathematics Anxiety) Siswa
Artikel ini merupakan hasil penelitian yang bertujuan untuk mengetahui penurunan tingkat kecemasan matematika siswa antara sebelum dan sesudah diajar dengan pendekatan kontekstual dengan hypnoteaching. Jenis penelitian ini adalah penelitian eksperimen semu dengan desain penelitian One Group Pretest – Postest Design. Sampel dalam penelitian ini adalah kelas VIIIA SMP Siti Chadijah. Instrumen penelitian berupa angket kecemasan matematika yang diberikan kepada kelas eksperimen sebelum dan sesudah diberikan perlakuan. berdasarkan hasil analisi angket dapat disimpulkan bahwa model pembelajaran kontekstual dengan hypnoteaching mampu mereduksi tingkat kecemasan matematis siswa
