A New Description of Nuclear Rotational Motion in terms of Intrinsic Pair Mode
A new method describing nuclear rotational motion microscopically is
proposed. We extract the rotational Hamiltonian by introducing the intrinsic
pair modes which commute with the rotational mode. Thereby the rotational mode
is not treated as zero energy mode in contrast with the conventional RPA
formalism so that we circumvent the difficulty related with infrared
divergence. The wave function is constructed by angular momentum projection on
each intrinsic state. Without numerical integration for projection we calculate
the matrix elements analytically under a certain approximation. The numerical
calculations are carried out to illustrate the applicability of our method and
they show that our method works well.Comment: 14pages,1figur
H2O maser motions and the distance of the star forming region G192.16-3.84
We present the results of astrometic observations of H2O masers associated
with the star forming region G192.16-3.84 with the VLBI Exploration of Radio
Astrometry (VERA). The H2O masers seem to be associated with two young stellar
objects (YSOs) separated by \sim1200 AU as reported in previous observations.
In the present observations, we successfully detected an annual parallax of
0.66 \pm 0.04 mas for the H2 O masers, which corresponds to a distance to
G192.16-3.84 of D = 1.52 \pm 0.08 kpc from the Sun. The determined distance is
shorter than the estimated kinematic distance. Using the annual parallax
distance and the estimated parameters of the millimeter continuum emission, we
estimate the mass of the disk plus circumstellar cloud in the southern young
stellar object to be 10.0+4.3M\cdot. We also estimate the galactocentric
distance and the peculiar motion -3.6 of G192.16-3.84, relative to a circular
Galactic rotation: R\star = 9.99 \pm 0.08 kpc, Z\star = -0.10 \pm 0.01 kpc, and
(U\star,V\star,W\star)=(-2.8\pm1.0,-10.5\pm0.3,4.9\pm2.7)[kms-1]respectively.
The peculiar motion of G192.16-3.84 is within that typically found in recent
VLBI astrometric results. The angular distribution and three-dimensional
velocity field of H2O maser features associated with the northern YSO indicate
the existence of a bipolar outflow with a major axis along the

Suzaku Observation of the Anomalous X-ray Pulsar 1E 1841-045
We report the results of a Suzaku observation of the anomalous X-ray pulsar
(AXP) 1E 1841-045 at a center of the supernova remnant Kes 73. We confirmed
that the energy-dependent spectral models obtained by the previous separate
observations were also satisfied over a wide energy range from 0.4 to ~70 keV,
simultaneously. Here, the models below ~10 keV were a combination of blackbody
(BB) and power-law (PL) functions or of two BBs wit h different temperatures at
0.6 - 7.0 keV (Morii et al. 2003), and that above ~20 keV was a PL function
(Kuiper Hermsen Mendez 2004). The combination BB + PL + PL was found to best
represent the phase-averaged spectrum. Phase-resolved spectroscopy indicated
the existence of two emission regions, one with a thermal and the other with a
non-thermal nature. The combination BB + BB + PL was also found to represent
the phase-averaged spectrum well. However, we found that this model is
physically unacceptable due to an excessively large area of the emission region
of the blackbody. Nonetheless, we found that the temperatures and radii of the
two blackbody components showed moderate correlations in the phase-resolved
spectra. The fact that the same correlations have been observed between the
phase-averaged spectra of various magnetars (Nakagawa et al. 2009) suggests
that a self-similar function can approximate the intrinsic energy spectra of
magnetars below ~10 keV.Comment: Accepted for publication in the PAS
Combined repetitive facilitative exercise under continuous neuromuscular electrical stimulation and task-oriented training for hemiplegic upper extremity during convalescent phase after stroke: before-and-after feasibility trial
IntroductionWhereas repetitive facilitative exercise (RFE) affects primarily recovery of motor impairment after stroke, task-oriented training (TOT) focuses on facilitating daily use of the affected upper extremity. However, feasibility of combined RFE and TOT has not been reported. We originated “task-oriented RFE,” as a new combination therapy for patients with hemiplegic upper extremity after subacute stroke, to examine its feasibility in convalescent rehabilitation wards.MethodsThis is a before-and-after pilot study. Eight patients with hemiplegic upper extremity after subacute stroke received the task-oriented RFE program for 6 weeks at 80 min per day (20–60 min of TOT applied after 60–20 min of RFE under continuous neuromuscular electrical stimulation) in a convalescent rehabilitation ward. In the current program, we introduced the Aid for Decision-making in Occupation Choice (ADOC) iPad application as a goal-setting method for determining tasks. Feasibility was assessed with adherence to the protocol, adverse events in response to the intervention, and preliminary efficacy. Motor functions, amount of use and quality of movement in the hemiparetic upper extremity, and satisfaction of the patients were evaluated with Fugl-Meyer Assessment (FMA), the Action Research Arm Test (ARAT), the motor activity log (MAL) for the amount of use (AOU) and quality of movement (QOM) of the paralyzed hand, and ADOC.ResultsAll participants accomplished the program, which was implemented as originally planned; neither nonattendance nor an adverse event occurred during the study. Favorable outcomes were obtained with all measures; mean changes in FMA, ARAT in the dominant hand, MAL-AOU, and MAL-QOM were greater than minimal clinically important differences. Mean changes in ADOC were greater than the minimal detectable change.DiscussionThe task-oriented RFE program was safe, well-tolerated, beneficial, and feasible within 80 min a day of occupational therapy, which means also within the procedural constraints of the Japanese health insurance system during the convalescent phase. Future studies are warranted to examine whether combined RFE and TOT enhances the efficacies of each program alone
