The interrelation between collective participation and sustainable decisions â a qualitative assessment approach
The theoretical claim for stakeholder participation in order to achieve
sustainable policy outcomes is prominent in the literature. Empirical evidence
substantiating this claim is, however, lacking. The complex characteristics of
the concepts of sustainability and participation demand a systematic approach
in which method develops from theory. We propose a qualitative assessment
approach based on theoretical considerations. We deliberately restrict our
approach not to prove causalities but to demonstrate tendencies. Our
methodological starting point refines the complex interrelation between
collective participation and sustainability by qualitatively assessing the
value of the two concepts separately before looking for mutual or opposing
trends. Based on theory, both concepts are re-split into two dimensions.
Collective participation is re-split into 1. inclusion and 2. influence and
sustainability is re-split into 1. the external impact of decisions and 2. the
internal capacity to face pressures. For each dimension the approach combines
an abstracting point-based scaling system with explanatory narratives. This
ensures the comparability of different cases and at the same time the
transparency and reliability of the assessment. By matching and comparing the
previous scaling results in the end, the assessment procedure explores whether
the degree of collective participation and the degree of sustainability are
rather synchronic or opposite. We exemplify our approach with an example of
local level non-governmental neighbourhood governance in India and review
primary data on the agitation for green spaces and slum eviction in Hyderabad.
This application outlines the disregard for diversity among stakeholders and
the cost-benefit assessment of sustainability as remaining theoretical and
methodological items for the amendment of our assessment approach in its
current version. After refinement the presented approach is intended for the
application on diverse cases of direct decision-making and for the meta-
analysis and comparison of secondary case-studies as well as for the analysis
of primary qualitative data
Wechselrede.
Men and women of dialogue observe conventions that owe their origins to rhetorical theories, the latter serving as a premise for the individual freedom of every letter writer. Since ancient times, epistolary rhetoric and the dialogism that presides over it have been the subject of much debate by theorists. This article presents the successive strata. Aristotle had already analysed epistolary dialogism and provided it with a civic twist: that every citizen aspires to be both author and reader since he takes the recipient into account. Cicero expands on this idea by making a distinction between an informative letter, confiding in family or a friend, and communications for political ends. This tripartite division was to last into the Middle Ages and then be adapted to the recipientâs social status. The variants that arrive in subsequent centuries are mainly concerned with private letters, which oscillate between propriety and fantasy, respect for the rules and spontaneity. The model from Antiquity remains that of Gellert, who retains the principle of dialogism. But Gellert abandons a servile imitatio and promotes another aspect of rhetoric: style. This reflects the actual functioning of language (philology) and its purpose in enabling communication between people (sociability). Conversing by letter encourages an ever-greater attempt to translate affections and to exploit the resources of the physical distance of the recipient
Since classical antiquity rhetoricians have reflected carefully upon truth and lies in an extra-moral sense. Rhetoric does not deal with self-evident or absolute truths, but with reasoned opinions and probabilities. The classic example is the legal argument. In a dialectical and dialogical exchange of ideas even lies can help generate the best solution to a problem, as Hegel observed and Nietzsche insisted
Study of charm and beauty in QGP from unquenched lattice QCD
We present charmonium and bottomonium correlators and corresponding
reconstructed spectral functions from full QCD calculations in the pseudoscalar
channel. Correlators are obtained using a mixed-action approach,
clover-improved Wilson valence quarks on gauge field configurations generated
with HISQ sea quarks, with physical strange quark masses and light
quark masses corresponding to MeV. The charm and bottom quark
masses are tuned to reproduce the experimental mass spectrum of the spin
averaged quarkonium vector mesons from the particle data group. For the
spectral reconstruction, we use models based on perturbative spectral functions
from different frequency regions like resummed thermal contributions around the
threshold from pNRQCD and vacuum contributions well above the threshold. We
show preliminary results of the reconstructed spectral function obtained for
the first time in our study for full QCD
Hadron-Hadron Interactions from Lattice QCD: isospin-2 scattering length
We present results for the scattering length using
twisted mass lattice QCD for three values of the lattice spacing and a range of
pion mass values. Due to the use of Laplacian Heaviside smearing our
statistical errors are reduced compared to previous lattice studies. A detailed
investigation of systematic effects such as discretisation effects, volume
effects, and pollution of excited and thermal states is performed. After
extrapolation to the physical point using chiral perturbation theory at NLO we
obtain .Comment: Edited for typos, overhauled figures, more detailed comparison to

Photon production rate from Transverse-Longitudinal () mesonic correlator on the lattice
Thermal photons from the QGP provide important information about the
interaction among plasma constituents. The photon production rate from a
thermally equilibrated system is proportional to the transverse spectral
function . One can also calculate the photon
production rate from the difference between
(transverse) and (longitudinal) projections, as
vanishes on the photon point. Because the UV part of
is suppressed, the corresponding Euclidean correlator receives most of its
contribution from the IR part. We calculate the correlator on
flavour HISQ configurations with at temperature of about
(220 MeV). We have used two ans\"{a}tze for the spectral
function: 1) A polynomial connected to the UV region consistent with OPE
expansion and 2) a hydro-inspired spectral function. We have also applied the
Backus-Gilbert method to estimate the spectral function. All these different
approaches are combined to estimate the photon production rate.Comment: 10 pages, 7 figures, Contribution to the 39th International Symposium

Scattering of two and three physical pions at maximal isospin from lattice QCD
We present the first direct lattice QCD computation of two- and
three- scattering quantities that includes an ensemble at the physical
point. We study the quark mass dependence of the two-pion phase shift, and the
three-particle interaction parameters. We also compare to phenomenology and
chiral perturbation theory (ChPT). In the two-particle sector, we observe good
agreement to the phenomenological fits in - and -wave, and obtain at the physical point from a direct computation. In the
three-particle sector, we observe reasonable agreement at threshold to the
leading order chiral expansion, i.e.\@ a mildly attractive three-particle
contact term. In contrast, we observe that the energy-dependent part of the
three-particle quasilocal scattering quantity is not well described by leading
order ChPT.Comment: Major reformatting. Increased number of configurations in one
