Die Verschleierung des Ich. Untersuchungen zur naturphilosophischen Poetologie Alfred DĂśblins

    Get PDF

Small Objects Matters in Weakly-supervised Semantic Segmentation

Weakly-supervised semantic segmentation (WSSS) performs pixel-wise classification given only image-level labels for training. Despite the difficulty of this task, the research community has achieved promising results over the last five years. Still, current WSSS literature misses the detailed sense of how well the methods perform on different sizes of objects. Thus we propose a novel evaluation metric to provide a comprehensive assessment across different object sizes and collect a size-balanced evaluation set to complement PASCAL VOC. With these two gadgets, we reveal that the existing WSSS methods struggle in capturing small objects. Furthermore, we propose a size-balanced cross-entropy loss coupled with a proper training strategy. It generally improves existing WSSS methods as validated upon ten baselines on three different datasets.Comment: Accepted to WACV 202

Guideline of the Korean Academy of Medical Sciences for Assessing Respiratory Impairment

    Get PDF
The presently used impairment rating guidelines in Korea do not accurately reflect the injury in various lung diseases. Therefore, they need to be made more objective and quantitative with new measurements, using indicators to more precisely represent impairment in the major respiratory diseases. We develop a respiratory impairment rating guideline to ensure that the same grade or impairment rating would be obtained regardless of surgeons who determinate it. Specialists in respiratory medicine and thoracic surgeons determined the impairment grades. Moreover, the impairment should be irreversible for more than 6 months. The impairment rating depends on the level of forced vital capacity, forced expiratory volume 1 second, diffusion capacity of carbon monoxide, arterial oxygen pressure, and arterial carbon dioxide pressure. The degree of whole body impairment is defined by each grade: first 81-95%, second 66-80%, third 51-65%, fourth 36-50%, and fifth 21-35%. In conclusion, we develop a respiratory impairment rating guideline for Koreans. Any qualified specialist can easily use it and judge objective scoring

AesPA-Net: Aesthetic Pattern-Aware Style Transfer Networks

To deliver the artistic expression of the target style, recent studies exploit the attention mechanism owing to its ability to map the local patches of the style image to the corresponding patches of the content image. However, because of the low semantic correspondence between arbitrary content and artworks, the attention module repeatedly abuses specific local patches from the style image, resulting in disharmonious and evident repetitive artifacts. To overcome this limitation and accomplish impeccable artistic style transfer, we focus on enhancing the attention mechanism and capturing the rhythm of patterns that organize the style. In this paper, we introduce a novel metric, namely pattern repeatability, that quantifies the repetition of patterns in the style image. Based on the pattern repeatability, we propose Aesthetic Pattern-Aware style transfer Networks (AesPA-Net) that discover the sweet spot of local and global style expressions. In addition, we propose a novel self-supervisory task to encourage the attention mechanism to learn precise and meaningful semantic correspondence. Lastly, we introduce the patch-wise style loss to transfer the elaborate rhythm of local patterns. Through qualitative and quantitative evaluations, we verify the reliability of the proposed pattern repeatability that aligns with human perception, and demonstrate the superiority of the proposed framework.Comment: Accepted by ICCV 2023. VIM- and IMP-Type Metallo-β-lactamase–Producing Pseudomonas spp. and Acinetobacter spp. in Korean Hospitals

    Get PDF
We determined the occurrence of acquired metallo-β-lactamase (MBL)–producing bacteria in Korean hospitals. Among the isolates nonsusceptible to imipenem that were collected from 28 hospitals from 2000 to 2001, 44 (11.4%) of 387 Pseudomonas spp. and 38 (14.2%) of 267 Acinetobacter spp. infections produced MBL and had alleles of blaVIM-2 or blaIMP-1. MBL-producing isolates were detected in 60.7% of the hospitals

Degenerate Stars and Gravitational Collapse in AdS/CFT

    Get PDF
We construct composite CFT operators from a large number of fermionic primary fields corresponding to states that are holographically dual to a zero temperature Fermi gas in AdS space. We identify a large N regime in which the fermions behave as free particles. In the hydrodynamic limit the Fermi gas forms a degenerate star with a radius determined by the Fermi level, and a mass and angular momentum that exactly matches the boundary calculations. Next we consider an interacting regime, and calculate the effect of the gravitational back-reaction on the radius and the mass of the star using the Tolman-Oppenheimer-Volkoff equations. Ignoring other interactions, we determine the "Chandrasekhar limit" beyond which the degenerate star (presumably) undergoes gravitational collapse towards a black hole. This is interpreted on the boundary as a high density phase transition from a cold baryonic phase to a hot deconfined phase.Comment: 75 page

Molecular and genetic characterization of OSH6 (Oryza sativa Homeobox 6) using dissociation (Ds) insertion mutant rice

    Get PDF
Genetic studies of dissociation (Ds) insertion mutant rice plants indicated that ectopic expression of truncated OSH6 (Oryza sativa Homeobox 6) mRNA may be responsible for the mutant phenotype of knotted leaf formation at the peduncle. Additionally, ectopic expression of truncated OSH6 mRNA in the OSH6-Ds mutant plant led to alteration of other homeobox genes including OSH15 in leaf tissues. The OSH6-Ds mutant plant exhibited altered expression of more than 118 genes on a 22K rice microarray in comparison with wild type plants. Of these genes, 20 were up- or down-regulated in both OSH6-Ds and OSH6-overexpressing (OSH6-35S) plants. Especially, OsDof3 was not expressed in floral organs, but was present in the panicles of both OSH6-Ds and OSH6-35S plants. It is assumed that truncated OSH6 transcript might be actively involved in the gene expression during organ development. The genetic relationship between OSH6-Ds and OSH15 suggested that the formation of the extra leaf is independent of OSH6-Ds or OSH15 expression. These results suggest that truncated OSH6 mRNA influences lateral organ growth and development by regulating the expression of specific gene groups.Key words: Oryza sativa Homeobox 6 (OSH6) genes, Ds insertion lines, OSH15 mutant

Repair Using Conventional Implant for Ruptured Annulus Fibrosus after Lumbar Discectomy: Surgical Technique and Case Series

    Get PDF
Study DesignA retrospective review of annulus fibrosus repair (AR) using a novel technique with a conventional implant.PurposeThe purpose of this study was to present the feasibility and clinico-radiological outcomes of a novel AR technique using a conventional implant to minimize recurrence following a lumbar discectomy (LD).Overview of LiteratureConventional repair techniques to prevent recurrence following LD have several drawbacks. The AR surgical technique has received little attention as an adjunct to LD.MethodsA total of 19 patients who underwent novel AR following LD, and who were available for follow-up for at least three years, were enrolled in this study. Several variables, including the type and size of disc herniation, and the degree of disc degeneration, were evaluated preoperatively. Postoperatively, the presence of clinical and radiological recurrence of disc herniation was evaluated from pain intensity and functional statuses, as well as an enhanced L-spine magnetic resonance imaging at the final follow-up. The presence of a peripheral hollow rim and inserted anchor mobilization were also evaluated during the follow-up.ResultsDuring follow-ups, there were no recurrences of disc herniation or complications, including neurovascular complications. Pain and functional disability improved significantly after surgery, and the improvement was maintained throughout the three-year follow-up period. No mobilization or implant peripheral hollow rim was observed during the follow-up.ConclusionsThis study examined the feasibility of a novel and easily available annulus implant technique following LD. These results suggest performing AR with this technique may be a valuable alternative for optimizing outcomes, if the procedure is performed in proper candidates
