Experimental Investigation of Percieved Risk in Random Walk Processes

    Get PDF
The hypothesis that, on average, people accurately estimate probabilities in random walk processes is experimentally investigated.Individuals are confronted with a process that starts with X,andineverystageeithergoesupordownbyX, and in every stage either goes up or down by 1, with probabilities p and 1 - p respectively. For different values of p, individuals were asked to estimate what is the chance that after 10 stages the system will be at a point higher than or equal to $X.Systematic mistakes in estimations were observed. In particular, estimations were centered around the stage-by-stage probability (p) rather then around the actual probability. Implication of this result to random walk processes in finance is considered.random walks;risk

Lagrangian Approach to Dispersionless KdV Hierarchy

    Get PDF
We derive a Lagrangian based approach to study the compatible Hamiltonian structure of the dispersionless KdV and supersymmetric KdV hierarchies and claim that our treatment of the problem serves as a very useful supplement of the so-called r-matrix method. We suggest specific ways to construct results for conserved densities and Hamiltonian operators. The Lagrangian formulation, via Noether's theorem, provides a method to make the relation between symmetries and conserved quantities more precise. We have exploited this fact to study the variational symmetries of the dispersionless KdV equation.Comment: Published in SIGMA (Symmetry, Integrability and Geometry: Methods and pplications) at http://www.emis.de/journals/SIGMA

    Conflict of Exchange Rates

    Get PDF
Conflict between economic interests of two or more countries can take place in the inflation prone floating exchange regime and thus affect monetary policies of each other. This paper tries to examine whether the exchange rates of the currencies of the industrial countries are affecting India’s currency and making the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) intervene in the foreign exchange market. It is found that limitation of RBI data is a major factor constraining the progress of research on the above kind of conflict.Exchange Rate,IMF, stochastic, trend stationary, dollar

Heavy fermion and Kondo lattice behavior in the itinerant ferromagnet CeCrGe3

Physical properties of polycrystalline CeCrGe3_{3} and LaCrGe3_{3} have been investigated by x-ray absorption spectroscopy, magnetic susceptibility χ(T)\chi(T), isothermal magnetization M(H), electrical resistivity ρ(T)\rho(T), specific heat C(TT) and thermoelectric power S(TT) measurements. These compounds are found to crystallize in the hexagonal perovskite structure (space group \textit{P63_{3}/mmc}), as previously reported. The ρ(T)\rho(T), χ(T)\chi(T) and C(TT) data confirm the bulk ferromagnetic ordering of itinerant Cr moments in LaCrGe3_{3} and CeCrGe3_{3} with TCT_{C} = 90 K and 70 K respectively. In addition a weak anomaly is also observed near 3 K in the C(TT) data of CeCrGe3_{3}. The T dependences of ρ\rho and finite values of Sommerfeld coefficient γ\gamma obtained from the specific heat measurements confirm that both the compounds are of metallic character. Further, the TT dependence of ρ\rho of CeCrGe3_{3} reflects a Kondo lattice behavior. An enhanced γ\gamma of 130 mJ/mol\,K2^{2} together with the Kondo lattice behavior inferred from the ρ(T)\rho(T) establish CeCrGe3_{3} as a moderate heavy fermion compound with a quasi-particle mass renormalization factor of \sim 45.Comment: 7 pages, 7 figures. Ba+^+ Quadrupole Polarizabilities: Theory versus Experiment

Three different measurements have been reported for the ground state quadrupole polarizability in the singly ionized barium (Ba+^+) which disagree with each other. Our calculation of this quantity using the relativistic coupled-cluster method disagrees with two of the experimental values and is within the error bars of the other. We discuss the issues related to the accuracy of our calculations and emphasize the need for further experiments to measure the quadrupole polarizability for this state and/or the 5D states.Comment: 6 pages, 3 table
