A Yule-Simon process with memory
The Yule-Simon model has been used as a tool to describe the growth of
diverse systems, acquiring a paradigmatic character in many fields of research.
Here we study a modified Yule-Simon model that takes into account the full
history of the system by means of an hyperbolic memory kernel. We show how the
memory kernel changes the properties of preferential attachment and provide an
approximate analytical solution for the frequency distribution density as well

Two-kaon correlations in central Pb + Pb collisions at 158 A GeV/c
Two-particle interferometry of positive kaons is studied in Pb + Pb
collisions at mean transverse momenta and 0.91 GeV/c. A
three-dimensional analysis was applied to the lower data, while a
two-dimensional analysis was used for the higher data. We find that the
source size parameters are consistent with the scaling curve observed in
pion correlation measurements in the same collisions, and that the duration
time of kaon emission is consistent with zero within the experimental

Bibliometrics of systematic reviews : analysis of citation rates and journal impact factors
Background:
Systematic reviews are important for informing clinical practice and health policy. The aim of this study was to examine the bibliometrics of systematic reviews and to determine the amount of variance in citations predicted by the journal impact factor (JIF) alone and combined with several other characteristics.
Methods:
We conducted a bibliometric analysis of 1,261 systematic reviews published in 2008 and the citations to them in the Scopus database from 2008 to June 2012. Potential predictors of the citation impact of the reviews were examined using descriptive, univariate and multiple regression analysis.
Results:
The mean number of citations per review over four years was 26.5 (SD +/-29.9) or 6.6 citations per review per year. The mean JIF of the journals in which the reviews were published was 4.3 (SD +/-4.2). We found that 17% of the reviews accounted for 50% of the total citations and 1.6% of the reviews were not cited. The number of authors was correlated with the number of citations (r = 0.215, P =5.16) received citations in the bottom quartile (eight or fewer), whereas 9% of reviews published in the lowest JIF quartile (<=2.06) received citations in the top quartile (34 or more). Six percent of reviews in journals with no JIF were also in the first quartile of citations.
Conclusions:
The JIF predicted over half of the variation in citations to the systematic reviews. However, the distribution of citations was markedly skewed. Some reviews in journals with low JIFs were well-cited and others in higher JIF journals received relatively few citations; hence the JIF did not accurately represent the number of citations to individual systematic reviews
Exact Scale Invariance in Mixing of Binary Candidates in Voting Model
We introduce a voting model and discuss the scale invariance in the mixing of
candidates. The Candidates are classified into two categories
and are called as `binary' candidates. There are in total
candidates, and voters vote for them one by one. The probability that a
candidate gets a vote is proportional to the number of votes. The initial
number of votes (`seed') of a candidate is set to be . After
infinite counts of voting, the probability function of the share of votes of
the candidate obeys gamma distributions with the shape exponent
in the thermodynamic limit . Between the
cumulative functions of binary candidates, the power-law relation
with the critical exponent
holds in the region . In the double
scaling limit and with
fixed, the relation holds
exactly over the entire range . We study the data on
horse races obtained from the Japan Racing Association for the period 1986 to

A Quasi-Model-Independent Search for New Physics at Large Transverse Momentum
We apply a quasi-model-independent strategy ("Sleuth") to search for new high
p_T physics in approximately 100 pb^-1 of ppbar collisions at sqrt(s) = 1.8 TeV
collected by the DZero experiment during 1992-1996 at the Fermilab Tevatron.
Over thirty-two e mu X, W+jets-like, Z+jets-like, and 3(lepton/photon)X
exclusive final states are systematically analyzed for hints of physics beyond
the standard model. Simultaneous sensitivity to a variety of models predicting
new phenomena at the electroweak scale is demonstrated by testing the method on
a particular signature in each set of final states. No evidence of new high p_T
physics is observed in the course of this search, and we find that 89% of an
ensemble of hypothetical similar experimental runs would have produced a final
state with a candidate signal more interesting than the most interesting

Finite coherent length and multi-pion correlation effects on two-pion interferometry
The effects of multi-pion correlations and finite coherent length on two-pion
interferometry are studied. It was shown that as the pion multiplicity and
coherent length become larger, the apparent radius and the apparent coherent
parameters derived from two-pion interferometry become smaller. The influence

Search for Electroweak Production of Single Top Quarks in ppbar Collisions
We present a search for electroweak production of single top quarks in the
electron+jets and muon+jets decay channels. The measurements use ~90 pb^-1 of
data from Run 1 of the Fermilab Tevatron collider, collected at 1.8 TeV with
the DZero detector between 1992 and 1995. We use events that include a tagging
muon, implying the presence of a b jet, to set an upper limit at the 95%
confidence level on the cross section for the s-channel process ppbar->tb+X of

Probing BFKL Dynamics in the Dijet Cross Section at Large Rapidity Intervals in ppbar Collisions at sqrt{s}=1800 and 630 GeV
Inclusive dijet production at large pseudorapidity intervals (delta_eta)
between the two jets has been suggested as a regime for observing BFKL
dynamics. We have measured the dijet cross section for large delta_eta in ppbar
collisions at sqrt{s}=1800 and 630 GeV using the DO detector. The partonic
cross section increases strongly with the size of delta_eta. The observed
growth is even stronger than expected on the basis of BFKL resummation in the
leading logarithmic approximation. The growth of the partonic cross section can
be accommodated with an effective BFKL intercept of
a_{BFKL}(20GeV)=1.65+/-0.07.Comment: Published in Physical Review Letter
Recent results in relativistic heavy ion collisions: from ``a new state of matter'' to "the perfect fluid"
Experimental Physics with Relativistic Heavy Ions dates from 1992 when a beam
of 197Au of energy greater than 10A GeV/c first became available at the
Alternating Gradient Synchrotron (AGS) at Brookhaven National Laboratory (BNL)
soon followed in 1994 by a 208Pb beam of 158A GeV/c at the Super Proton
Synchrotron (SPS) at CERN (European Center for Nuclear Research). Previous
pioneering measurements at the Berkeley Bevalac in the late 1970's and early
1980's were at much lower bombarding energies (~ 1 A GeV/c) where nuclear
breakup rather than particle production is the dominant inelastic process in
A+A collisions. More recently, starting in 2000, the Relativistic Heavy Ion
Collider (RHIC) at BNL has produced head-on collisions of two 100A GeV beams of
fully stripped Au ions, corresponding to nucleon-nucleon center-of-mass energy,
sqrt(sNN)=200 GeV, total c.m. energy 200A GeV. The objective of this research
program is to produce nuclear matter with extreme density and temperature,
possibly resulting in a state of matter where the quarks and gluons normally
confined inside individual nucleons (r < 1 fm) are free to act over distances
an order of magnitude larger. Progress from the period 1992 to the present will
be reviewed, with reference to previous results from light ion and
proton-proton collisions where appropriate. Emphasis will be placed on the
measurements which formed the basis for the announcements by the two major
laboratories: "A new state of matter", by CERN on Feb 10, 2000 and "The perfect

Search for R-parity Violating Supersymmetry in Dimuon and Four-Jets Channel
We present results of a search for R-parity-violating decay of the neutralino
chi_1^0, taken to be the Lightest Supersymmetric Particle. It is assumed that
this decay proceeds through one of the lepton-number violating couplings
lambda-prime_2jk (j=1,2; k=1,2,3). This search is based on 77.5 pb-1 of data,
collected by the D0 experiment at the Fermilab Tevatron in ppbar collisions at
