This paper presents an approach combining concepts of virtual storytelling with cooperative processes. We will describe why storytelling is relevant in cooperation support applications. We will outline how storytelling concepts provide a new quality for groupware applications. Different prototypes illustrate a combination of a groupware application with various storytelling components in a Theatre of Work
InGaAs/GaAs/alkanethiolate radial superlattices: Experimental
A radial InGaAs/GaAs/1-hexadecanethiol superlattice is fabricated by the
roll-up of a strained InGaAs/GaAs bilayer passivated with a molecular
self-assembled monolayer. Our technique allows the formation of multi-period
inorganic/organic hybrid heterostructures. This paper contains the detailed
experimental description of how to fabricate these structures.Comment: 2 pages, no figures, Version 2; minor changes (fixed typos and update

Symbolic Activities in Virtual Spaces
This paper presents an approach to combine concepts ofsymbolic acting and virtual storytelling with the support ofcooperative processes. We will motivate why symboliclanguages are relevant in the social context of awarenessapplications. We will describe different symbolicpresentations and illustrate their application in three differentprototypes
Purification and structural characterization of the Na+-translocating ferredoxin: NAD+ reductase (Rnf) complex of Clostridium tetanomorphum
Various microbial metabolisms use H+/Na+-translocating ferredoxin:NAD+ reductase (Rnf) either to exergonically oxidize reduced ferredoxin by NAD+ for generating a transmembrane electrochemical potential or reversely to exploit the latter for producing reduced ferredoxin. For cryo-EM structural analysis, we elaborated a quick four-step purification protocol for the Rnf complex from Clostridium tetanomorphum and integrated the homogeneous and active enzyme into a nanodisc. The obtained 4.27 Ă
density map largely allows chain tracing and redox cofactor identification complemented by biochemical data from entire Rnf and single subunits RnfB, RnfC and RnfG. On this basis, we postulated an electron transfer route between ferredoxin and NAD via eight [4Fe-4S] clusters, one Fe ion and four flavins crossing the cell membrane twice related to the pathway of NADH:ubiquinone reductase. Redox-coupled Na+ translocation is provided by orchestrating Na+ uptake/release, electrostatic effects of the assumed membrane-integrated FMN semiquinone anion and accompanied polypeptide rearrangements mediated by different redox steps
Kinetic stabilization of Fe film on (4 by 2)-GaAs(100)
We grow Fe film on (4 by 2)-GaAs(100) at low temperature, (~ 130 K) and study
their chemical structure by photoelectron spectroscopy using synchrotron
radiation. We observe the effective suppression of As segregation and
remarkable reduction of alloy formation near the interface between Fe and
substrate. Hence, this should be a way to grow virtually pristine Fe film on
GaAs(100). Further, the Fe film is found stable against As segregation even
after warmed up to room temperature. There only forms very thin, ~ 8 angstrom
thick interface alloy. It is speculated that the interface alloy forms via
surface diffusion mediated by interface defects formed during the low
temperature growth of the Fe film. Further out-diffusion of both Ga and As are
suppressed because it should then proceed via inefficient bulk diffusion.Comment: 4 figure
Leveraging self-sovereign identity & distributed ledger technology in renewable energy certificate ecosystems
Renewable Energy Certificates (RECs) are tradable units that represent the commodity in the form of environmental attributes generated for each unit of electricity produced by a renewable energy source. Furthermore, the energy sector's digitalization ushers in new crucial enablers like Distributed Ledger Technology (DLT), which may be used for REC record tracking and trading. Unfortunately, there are a number of outstanding issues such as the lack of a common standard for the representation, communication, and verification of REC, reliance on centralized entities, and others. In order to harness the true potential of energy DLT and REC, it is imperative to address these issues. In this visionary article, we propose a holistic approach which leverages a novel decentralized identity mechanism called Self-sovereign Identity (SSI) and DLT. We present its architecture, based on a rigorous threat model and requirement analysis as well as detailed use-cases to illustrate how the architecture can be used in different REC use-cases
Systematic Two-band Model Calculations of the GMR Effect with Metallic and Nonmetallic Spacers and with Impurities
By an accurate Green's function method we calculate conductances and the
corresponding Giant Magneto-Resistance effects (GMR) of two metallic
ferromagnetic films separated by different spacers, metallic and non-metallic
ones, in a simplified model on a sc lattice, in CPP and CIP geometries (i.e.
current perpendicular or parallel to the planes), without impurities, or with
interface- or bulk impurities. The electronic structure of the systems is
approximated by two hybridized orbitals per atom, to mimic s-bands and d-bands
and their hybridization.
We show that such calculations usually give rough estimates only, but of the
correct order of magnitude; in particular, the predictions on the impurity
effects depend strongly on the model parameters. One of our main results is the
prediction of huge CPP-GMR effects for {\it non-metallic} spacers in the
ballistic limit.Comment: Revised version; discussions and references improved; accepted by

The Structure and Dynamics of the Upper Chromosphere and Lower Transition Region as Revealed by the Subarcsecond VAULT Observations
The Very high Angular resolution ULtraviolet Telescope (VAULT) is a sounding
rocket payload built to study the crucial interface between the solar
chromosphere and the corona by observing the strongest line in the solar
spectrum, the Ly-a line at 1216 {\AA}. In two flights, VAULT succeeded in
obtaining the first ever sub-arcsecond (0.5") images of this region with high
sensitivity and cadence. Detailed analyses of those observations have
contributed significantly to new ideas about the nature of the transition
region. Here, we present a broad overview of the Ly-a atmosphere as revealed by
the VAULT observations, and bring together past results and new analyses from
the second VAULT flight to create a synthesis of our current knowledge of the
high-resolution Ly-a Sun. We hope that this work will serve as a good reference
for the design of upcoming Ly-a telescopes and observing plans.Comment: 28 pages, 11 figure
Filtering spin with tunnel-coupled electron wave guides
We show how momentum-resolved tunneling between parallel electron wave guides
can be used to observe and exploit lifting of spin degeneracy due to Rashba
spin-orbit coupling. A device is proposed that achieves spin filtering without
using ferromagnets or the Zeeman effect.Comment: 4 pages, 4 figures, RevTex
