Changes in pain intensity between baseline and 1 month after patch application presented as SPID for capsaicin and placebo patch treatments, and the mean difference.

The SPID was calculated as the difference between the baseline SPI-value and the SPI-value at 1 month after patch application. Each SPI- value contains six median values (pain assessments twice daily for three days). Values are mean (95% CI). Positive values of SPID indicate pain reduction after treatment. P-values indicate comparisons of SPID (capsaicin vs. placebo).

NRSâ=âNumerical Rating Scale (0â10), SPIDâ=âSummed pain intensity difference, SPIâ=âsummed pain intensity.

Changes in pain intensity between baseline and 1 month after patch application presented as SPID for capsaicin and placebo patch treatments, and the mean difference.</p

Two patients who withdrew early from the study and one patient who was lost to follow-up did not report baseline pain ratings and were not included in the analyses of pain ratings.

BMIâ=âBody Mass Index, NRSâ=âNumerical Rating Scale (0â10), NSAIDsâ=âNon-steroidal Anti-inflammatory Drugs.

Baseline patient characteristics.</p
Differences in quantitative sensory assessments on the pain side from baseline to 1 month after patch application.

Values are mean (95% CI)§ or median (95% CI). Î valueâ=âpost-treatment minus baseline value. P-values indicate comparisons of Î-values (capsaicin vs. placebo [unpaired t-testâĄ or the Mann-Whitney test).
