Risk transfer is one of the basic principles for sustainability of risk management programs in agriculture. Risk transfers;amp;#8217; programs prevent potential risks of agricultural sector of both farm and whole state economic losses. Agricultural insurance is considered as a major tool for risk management programs in EU countries. Turkey, who adapted the EU process, is affected by developments of agricultural insurance field and legislative arrangements. Especially the new agricultural insurance law (2006) supports this condition by creating pool system supported by the government. Because of this law, the farmers;amp;#8217; attitude toward risk transfer insurance will change. In this study, apricot producers;amp;#8217; opinions of risk transfer and new agricultural insurance law in Polatdere Village Doğanşehir, Malatya were evaluated. The factors affecting the farmers decisions related to agricultural insurance were also determined.

Effects of pseudoephedrine on rat fetal bone development: evaluation by three different methods

Pseudoephedrine (PSE) is an agent that is contained in common cold medications. The agent, which is used to treat cold and cough, is the fourth most prescribed drug group in some countries. During pregnancy, expectant mothers use PSE for colds and other reasons. One out of every four expectant mothers use PSE alone or in combination with other medicines for various reasons. This study was aimed to investigate effects of PSE on long bones development in rat during fetal growth. Pregnant rats were divided into five groups: control and four experimental groups (25 mg/kg, 50 mg/kg, 100 mg/kg, 200 mg/kg PSE). Between 1 and 20 days of pregnancy, PSE was given to them by gavage. Weights and heights of fetuses isolated by cesarean on the 21st day were measured. Ossification of femur and humerus was examined by three different methods mentioned earlier. Depending on the dose increase, all morphometric data, ossification rate and bone length of the fetuses were decreased. Besides, it was determined that the amount of Calcium in the bone tissue decreased in the analyzes made with SEM–EDX Analysis. The data obtained from this study reveal that the use of PSE during pregnancy disrupts the existing balance in the bone and negatively affects ossification due to the dose increase. In conclusion, we present descriptive and novel data on the effects of PSE use during pregnancy on the bone development of rat fetal long bones.Erciyes University TYL-2018-792

Portal Vein Thrombosis of a Newborn with Corrected Total Anomalous Pulmonary Venous Return

Total anomalous pulmonary venous return (TAPVR) is a rare and frequently isolated defect identified in 1% to 3% of all congenital heart diseases. To the best of our knowledge, portal vein thrombosis (PVT) associated with TAPVR has not been reported in the literature. We report a successfully managed PVT in a newborn with infracardiac-type TAPVR and review the literature. Anticoagulation therapies were used during the neonatal period to prevent thrombus progression. PVT should be kept in mind in TAPVR patients who have open heart repair with total correction. The treatment in each neonate should be individualized with consideration of the risk/benefit ratio
