Single atom edge-like states via quantum interference
We demonstrate how quantum interference may lead to the appearance of robust
edge-like states of a single ultracold atom in a two-dimensional optical
ribbon. We show that these states can be engineered either within the manifold
of local ground states of the sites forming the ribbon, or of states carrying
one unit of angular momentum. In the former case, we show that the
implementation of edge-like states can be extended to other geometries, such as
tilted square lattices. In the latter case, we suggest to use the winding
number associated to the angular momentum as a synthetic dimension.Comment: 5 pages, 5 figure

Intermolecular interaction of photoexcited Cu(TMpy-P4) with water studied by transient resonance Raman and picosecond absorption spectroscopies
photoinduced complex between Cu(TMpy-P4) and water molecules, reversibly axially coordinated to the central metal, was observed in picosecond transient absorption and nanosecond resonance Raman experiments. This complex is rapidly created (τ1 = 15 ± 5 ps) in the excited triplet (π, π*) state of Cu-porphyrin, and the subsequent relaxation is proposed to proceed via two parallel pathways. One is fast and efficient (≥90% of molecules), and presumably involves a (π, d) charge-transfer state. The second pathway is slow (τ2 >> 1 ns), has a low quantum yield (≤10%) and involves the excited (d, d) state which is responsible for transient Raman features at ≈ 1553 cm−1 (ν2*) and ≈ 1347 cm−1 (ν4*), and for low-intensity long-lived transient absorption features

How to Use the Changing Components of the Corporate Annual Report
The amount of information required in a corporate annual report continues to increase. Most recently, additional reporting requirements brought about by the Sarbanes-Oxley Act of 2002 (SOA), the Public Company Accounting Oversight Board (PCAOB) and the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) increase the number of component reports that must be included in the annual report package. Lenders need to be familiar with the additional information that these new components provide. Therefore, this article summarizes the required component reports, discusses the information conveyed in each report and gives some examples of the types of significant new information that can be obtained
microRNA and Overcoming the Challenges of Their Use in the Diagnosis of Endometriosis
Endometriosis is a common estrogen dependent and inflammatory disease affecting approximately 176 million women worldwide. Currently, the time between onset of symptoms and a definitive diagnosis has been reported by several international studies to range from 6 to 12Â years. Presently, laparoscopic surgery followed by histopathological confirmation of lesions remains the gold standard for diagnosis. In part because of cost and invasiveness, current trends favor reduced laparoscopic surgeries in preference of the non-surgical diagnosis of endometriosis. However, the search for a clinical marker or markers of endometriosis that provide equal or similar sensitivity and specificity to laparoscopy has remained elusive. Thus, the search for a diagnostic test for the diagnosis of endometriosis continues to be a high priority research and clinical issue. Recent studies have reported favorable results with microRNA; however, lack of replication and absence of validation suggest that circulating miRNA may not be reliable for clinical use. Use of different screening platforms together with divergent methods may account for some of the lack or reproducibility in the literature. Herein we critically assess the recent literature and explore sources for discrepant findings. We suggest that prospective studies using validated reference miRNA to normalize results together with improved study design may yet reveal a suitable diagnostic marker or panel of markers for the diagnosis of endometriosis
