    : Smoking habit has become a culture in many countries in the world. During smoking, each cigarette can release morre than 4000 toxic chemicals such as nicotine, tar, carbon monoxide, and black tin. Smoking can cause health problem inter alia erectile dysfunction. This study was aimed to analyze the relationship between smoking and erectile dysfunction among public transportation drivers. This was an analytical survey study with a cross sectional design conducted at Terminal Karombasan Manado. There were 60 drivers as respondents. Data of respondent characteristic were obtained by interview and filling the IIEF questionnaires (International Index of Erectile Function) given directly to the respondents. The results showed that of 60 drivers, there were 86.7% that had erectile dysfunction. The Chi-square test analyzing the relationship between smoking and erectile dysfunction showed a p value of 0.04. Conclusion: There was a significant relationship between smoking and erectile dysfunction among drivers of public transportation at Terminal Karombasan Manado

    Pengaruh Pemberian Ekstrak Jintan Hitam (Nigella Sativa) Terhadap Kualitas Spermatozoa Tikus Wistar (Rattus Norvegicus) Yang Terpapar Asap Rokok

    : Continuous exposure to cigarette smoke has been reported as the number one cause of infertility in men. Cigarette smoke increases the production of reactive oxygen species (ROS) thereby causing infertility in men. Nigella sativa contains antioxidant that may decrease ROS level in hope to improve infertility. This 50 days study is conducted to see the effect of Nigella sativa extract to the sperm quality of nine wistar rats that have been exposed by cigarette smoke. The rats were divided into three groups of three: the control group and the group treated with Nigella sativa administered orally at the dose of 200 mg kg body weight and 400 mg/kg body weight. Sperm quality was observed by overlooking at the concentration, motility, and morphology of each group. The mean data of each group was obtained and tested for significance using Independent Samples T-Test. This study found the comparison of both motility (p=0,006) and morphology (p=0,000) between control group and the group with the dose of 200 mg/kg body weight to be significant, as well as the comparison of motility (p=0,001) and morphology (p=0,000) between the control group and the group with the dose of 400 mg/kg body weight

    : The coffee beans composed of the compound caffeine, palmitic acid, linoleic acid and acid stearic. The content of caffeine in coffee can improve spermatozoa motility that are not motile by inhibiting cyclic nucleotide phosphodiesterase and affects the intracellular levels of cyclic AMP. Spermatozoa quality can be affected by various factors such as stress. In nocturnal animals, dark periode becomes a signal to do activity by suprachiasmatic nucleus. The change in activity of the nocturnal animals from initial condition in the dark then exposed to light can leads to stress. This study was aimed to determine the effect of coffee on the spermatozoa quality of wistar rats which had been exposed to stress. This was an experimental analytical study with a post-test only control group design. The study was conducted for 50 days from September to November 2016. The sample consisted of 9 rats divided into three groups: a control group (P0) is given only exposure to stress in the form of light, the treatment group 1 (P1) is given exposure to stress in the light form and liquid coffee 1 ml / kg and the treatment group 2 (P2) is given exposure to stress in the light form and coffee extracts. The results showed that there were significant differences in the concentration and motility treatment group 1 (P1) to the control group (P0) which is p <0.05 and significant differences in sperm motility treatment group 2 (P2) to the control group (P0) which is p <0.05. Conclusion: Coffee administration could improve the quality of spermatozoa of wistar rats exposed to stress

    : Consumption of alcoholic beverages in the world led to the deaths of more than 3.3 million people every year, or 5.9% of all deaths, if not preventable, the number of deaths will increase annually in line with the increasing number of drinkers. A smoker who consumes alcoholic beverages can cause a variety of health problems, one of which is erectile dysfunction. The purpose of this study was to find the effect of consumption of alcoholic beverages to the erectile dysfunction in smoker drivers. This study is an analytic survey with cross sectional approach. The study was conducted in Karombasan Public Transport Terminal from October 2015 to January 2016, with a population of 60 smoker drivers. The sampling of this study uses purposive sampling method to determine which sample meets the criteria. The number of samples obtained is 48 people. Erectile function was assessed using IIEF questionnaire (International Index of Erectile Function). This study showed that from 60 smoker drivers who consumes alcohol beverages, 80% of them had sustained erectile dysfunction with the degree of dysfunction at most is mild, i.e. 45%. This shows that there are significant effects of alcohol consumption on erectile dysfunction in smoker drivers with a value of p = 0.001 (p<0.05). It can be concluded that smoker drivers who consumes alcoholic beverages can significantly influence the occurrence of erectile dysfunction

    Perbedaan Efek Pemberian Tunggal Vitamin E Dengan Pemberian Kombinasi Vitamin E Dan Zink Terhadap Kualitas Spermatozoa Tikus Wistar (Rattus Norvegicus) Yang Diberi Paparan Asap Rokok

    : Smoking can increase free radicals in sperm, which can damage sperm. Vitamin E as non-enzymatic antioxidant and zinc as enzymatic antioxidant that is effective in dealing with free radicals. The aim of this research was to look at the differences between the effects of vitamin E and zinc on spermatozoa quality of male wistar rats (Rattus norvegicus) after exposure to cigarette smoke. The research used a completely randomized experimental design. Samples were 9 male wistar rats (Rattus norvegicus) which were randomly divided into 3 groups. Each group was given exposure to cigarette smoke from 2 bars of cigarette/day, which treatment group (P1) also was given vitamin E 1,44 mg/day and treatment group (P2) also was given combination of vitamin E 1,44 mg/day and zinc 10 mg/day. The treatment was given for 50 days. The results of this research showed a significant difference in the motility and morphology of spermatozoa between the treatment group (P1) which received exposure the cigarette smoke and vitamin E and treatment group (P2) which received exposure to cigarette smoke and combination of vitamin E and zinc (p<0,05) compared with the group which received exposure only cigarette smoke without vitamin E or zinc. The motility of spermatozoa treatment group (P2) which received exposure the cigarette smoke and combination vitamin E and zinc was found significant difference with the treatment group (P1) which received exposure the cigarette smoke and vitamin E (p <0,05). Conclusion: The conclusion from this research showed that there is difference between spermatozoa quality especially motility and morphology of group treated with vitamin E and combination of vitamin E and zinc after exposure to cigarette smoke, with combination of vitamin E and zinc had an higher average on spermatozoa quality especially motility

    Pengaruh Madu Terhadap Kualitas Spermatozoa Tikus Wistar (Rattus Norvegicus) Yang Diberi Paparan Asap Rokok

    : Cigarettes are composed of hazardous chemicals such as nicotine, tar and carbon monoxide (CO) to name a few. In just a single puff of a cigarette, there are 1014 free radical molecules also known as Reactive Oxygen Species (ROS) that can cause sperm damage. Various natural ingredients native to Indonesia were found to contain various antioxidants, one of them is honey. The effects of honey as antioxidant may protect body cells in neutralizing free radicals caused by smoking and reducing the damage to spermatozoa cell that is caused by ROS and thereby avoiding the declining quality of spermatozoa. This study aimed to determine the effect of honey on the quality of spermatozoa of Wistar rats (Rattus norvegicus) that had been exposed to cigarette smoke. Subjects of this study were nine male Wistar rats (Rattus norvegicus) randomly divided into three groups weighing 150-200 g with the age range of 12-14 weeks. Each group of mice was given exposure to the smoke of 2 cigarettes a day in which the treatment group (P1) is also given 0.5 ml of honey per day, and the treatment group (P2) honey 1 ml / day. The results showed that honey treatment can improve concentration, motility, and morphology of spermatozoa Wistar rats (Rattus norvegicus) by exposure to cigarrets smoke. Occurred a significant difference of concentration, motility, and morphology of spermatozoa group given only the exposure to cigarette smoke and the group given exposure to cigarette smoke and honey. This results showed that 1 ml of honey per day could improve the quality of spermatozoa

    Perbandingan antara Pengaruh Olahraga Berlebihan dan Paparan Asap Rokok terhadap Kualitas Spermatozoa Tikus Wistar (Rattus Norvegicus)

    Olahraga berlebihan dapat menyebabkan peningkatan radikal bebas sebanyak 2–3 kali. Asap rokok dapat meningkatkan radikal bebas serta menurunkan antioksidan dalam cairan semen sehingga dapat mengakibatkan kerusakan DNA melalui fragmentasi DNA seluler. Radikal bebas dapat berasal dari sumber endogen, yaitu pada reaksi reduksi oksidasi normal dalam mitokondria, peroksisom, sedangkan radikal bebas dari sumber eksogen berasal dari asap rokok, inflamasi, dan latihan olahraga berlebihan. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui perbandingan antara pengaruh olahraga berlebihan dan paparan asap rokok terhadap kualitas spermatozoa tikus Wistar (Rattus norvegicus). Jenis penelitian ialah eksperimental dengan post-test only control group design. Sampel penelitian sebanyak 9 ekor tikus wistar (Rattus norvegicus) dibagi menjadi 3 kelompok: kelompok P0 tidak diberikan olahraga berlebihan dan paparan asap rokok; kelompok P1 diberikan olahraga berlebihan intensitas berat; dan kelompok P2 diberikan paparan asap rokok 2 batang. Perlakuan dilakukan selama 50 hari. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan perbedaan konsentrasi antar kelompok penelitian, namun analisis statistik menunjukkan hasil yang tidak bermakna (P>0,05). Pada motilitas didapatkan hasil bermakna untuk motilitas normal dan abnormal kelompok P0 dan P1 (P=0,002), serta kelompok P0 dan P2 (P=0). Pada morfologi didapatkan hasil bermakna antara kelompok P0 dan P1 (P=0,004). Simpulan: Pemberian olahraga berlebihan dan paparan asap rokok berpengaruh terhadap kualitas spermatozoa tikus Wistar (Rattus norvegicus)
