WOS: 000412085400040In this work, the evaluation of AC loss of the pancake coils wound by HTS-coated conductors, by employing the finite element method in 2D, is presented. The transport current loss of the superconducting tape and the eddy current loss of the copper stabilizer as a function of the amplitude for four frequencies of the applied current are examined numerically by utilizing a newly developed calculation method based on the A - V formulation embedded in COMSOL Multiphysics software with an AC/DC module. The number of the coil turn is 10, and the radius is about 60 mm. The superconducting layer width and height in the simulations are 12 and 1 mm, respectively. The width and height of the copper layers are 12 and 80 mm, respectively. The critical current density of tapes is taken as 300 A.Scientific and Technological Research Council of Turkey (TUBITAK)Turkiye Bilimsel ve Teknolojik Arastirma Kurumu (TUBITAK) [114F424]This study is supported by the Scientific and Technological Research Council of Turkey (TUBITAK) under the grant number 114F424

AC Loss Analysis of HTS Pancake Coil of Coated Superconductors with Ferromagnetic Substrate

    No full text
The influence of the ferromagnetic substrate on the AC loss of an HTS coil is extensively investigated by the finite element method. The model assumes the utilization of the coated conductors with a ferromagnetic substrate to construct the coil windings consisting of several turns. The calculations for both the strong and weak ferromagnetic layers were accomplished. The calculation is presented how to change the current distribution inside a superconducting region by the ferromagnetic layer.Scientific and Technological Research Council of Turkey (TUBITAK)Turkiye Bilimsel ve Teknolojik Arastirma Kurumu (TUBITAK) [114F424]This study is supported by the Scientific and Technological Research Council of Turkey (TUBITAK) under the grant number 114F424

Social determinants of sexual violence against pregnant women

    No full text
Background/objectives: Violence against women is one of the major social problems in Turkey, maintains its severity as an important social problem globally. The aim of this study was determine the factors affecting sexual violence applied to women by their spouses during pregnancy. Methods: The universe of the cross-sectional study was determined as 26.271 women who gave birth in the Northeastern Anatolia Region. The sample was taken from 1025 women who had just given birth. SPSS (Statistical Package for Social Sciences) package program was applied in the data analysis of the research. Data were analyzed by chi-square and logistic regression (Backward: LR). Results: Lack of civil marriage OR: 3.0 (CI: 1.7–5.1), low education level of women OR: 2.1 (CI: 1.4–3.2), unwantedness of pregnancy by men OR: 2.4 (CI: 1.5–3.8), the men's alcohol use OR: 5.7 (CI: 3.3–9.9) and low total household income OR: 1.8 (CI: 1.3–2.6) were found to be the factors affecting sexual violence during pregnancy. Conclusion: As a result, sexual violence that women are exposed to during pregnancy continues as an important public health problem. In this context, nationwide mobilization should be declared so that the laws passed by governments for the liquidation of the patriarchal family structure should also function in practice

Effects of Long-Duration Home Isolation Linked to the COVID-19 Pandemic on Mental Health of Adolescent Athletes

Purpose: To assess whether adolescent athletes were affected or not in terms of mental health by the long duration at home linked to isolation enforced during the COVID-19 pandemic. Method: The study included 940 team athletes, 274 individual athletes, and 131 nonathlete controls aged 12-17 years. Demographic data were obtained with a form including questions about age, sex, sports type, and physical activity status (type, duration, and frequency) during the isolation period. Participants completed the Children's Revised Impact of Event Scale-13, Center for Epidemiological Studies Depression Scale for Children, and State-Trait Anxiety Inventory for Children. Results: Among participants, 88% did not meet the physical activity recommendations for children and adolescents, while 42.8% felt depressed. Depressive symptoms were present in 38.1% of boys and 59.7% of girls, with girls (6.4%) having higher posttraumatic stress symptoms than boys (3.5%). Among athletes, depressive and anxiety symptoms were lower compared with nonathlete controls (P .01). Posttraumatic stress symptoms were lower among athletes than nonathlete controls for girls (team vs control, P= .006; individual vs control, P = .002) but similar for boys (P .05). The depression (P = .518), state (P = .866), and trait anxiety (P = .507) symptoms were similar between team athletes and individual athletes. Conclusion: Though adolescent athletes' depression, anxiety, and posttraumatic stress symptoms were significantly lower than nonathlete controls, athletes also had high depression levels. These findings show the need to take precautions to protect the psychological health of not only nonathletes, but also athletes in the pandemic period

A new method for screening glutathione reductase inhibitors using square wave voltammetry

    No full text
WOS: 000356052600040A square wave voltammetric method was developed for the detection of glutathione reductase (GR) activity. The method is based upon the direct determination of glutathione (GSH) produced by nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide phosphate (NADPH)-dependent reduction of glutathione disulfide (GSSG). Enzyme activity was represented by an increase in steady-state reduction current of GSH and this current was monitored voltammetrically. At the optimized working condition, reduction potential of GSH was found at -0.44 V with a hanging mercury drop electrode versus an Ag/AgCl electrode. The reduction current was directly proportional to GSH concentration in the range 2.63-800 mu M with a lower detection limit of 0.79 mu M and lower quantification limit of 2.63 mu M. Inhibitory activities of four antimony(III) compounds were determined by this method, and obtained IC50 values were compared with previous data. In addition, an electrochemical study of these compounds showed that their reductions have an EC mechanism; the current is diffusion controlled, and E-p/2 values are proportional to inhibitor activity.Scientific and Technological Research Council of Turkey (TUBITAK)Turkiye Bilimsel ve Teknolojik Arastirma Kurumu (TUBITAK) [212T089]; Russian Foundation for Basic ResearchRussian Foundation for Basic Research (RFBR)This work has been supported in part by The Scientific and Technological Research Council of Turkey (TUBITAK) Project no: 212T089 and by Russian Foundation for Basic Research
