    THE KINETIC ANALYSIS OF THE TAEKWONDO AXE KICK

    The purpose of this study was to analyze the kinetics of taekwondo axe kick. Twenty junior high school level taekwondo athletes served as subjects, and their mean age, height, weight and training experience were 17.1 ± 1 years, 168.8 ± 5.8 cm, 59.9 ± 6.7 kg and 5.8 ± 1.6 years respectively. Two Kistler force plates and multifunctional record instruments were used to measure kinetic parameters in each phase of the axe-kick motion. The conclusions described as following: 1. the time to peak anterior-posterior ground reaction force of kicking leg prior to the time to peak vertical force. 2.the peak vertical ground reaction force and impulse of support leg were 1.79 times of body weight and 88.1 N-s during leg-lift phase, and 0.86 times of body weight and 64.9 N-s during legaxe phase. 3. It’s suggested that during the training should emphasize to decrease the response time in order to reduce the total time

    THE DYNAMIC ANALYSIS OF THE APPLIED FORCE ON JAVELIN DURING FINAL THRUST BY AN ELITE JAVELIN THROWER

    According to the javelin rules, a throw is valid only if the tip strikes the ground before any other part of the javelin. So it is important to precisely control the applied force on javelin for further distance and tip-first landing. Two synchronized Redlake high-speed cameras (250 Hz) were used to videotape an elite thrower; a javelin with three fixed non-collinear markers was used in experiment. The aerodynamics and Newton-Euler equation were taken into account in the 3D inverse dynamic analysis. The results showed that the force was mainly on the axial direction as the whole hand gripped the javelin. However, as the portion of hand touching the javelin became lesser, the direction of force was changed from axial to lateral direction. The lateral torque was significantly larger than axial torque during the whole phase, and their maxima were 24.08 and 1.31 Nm, respectively. The results measured by this method were similar to those by force sensor, and it could be suitable for use in further researches

    The purpose of this study was to investigate the biomechanical factors of the Taekwondo axe-kick and compare the differences between male and female athletes for timing kinematicsand kinetics. The data gained from 23 test subjects of the Taekwondo team from the junior high school (male:16, female:?). Base on the results and discussion of the study, we have reached the following conclusion: the average movement speed has significant difference between male and female groups. The average movement speed has significant positive correlation with the peak vertical ground reaction force (body weight), the peak front-rear ground reaction and impulse at the kicking leg. While the kicking leg attacked the target, the higher point of the kicking leg and the larger power at the peak tront-rear ground reaction force, the faster attacking velocity(the resultant of toe velocity) at the target

    THE BIOMECHANICAL ANALYSIS OF THE TAEKWONDO FRONT-LEG AXE-KICK

    The purpose of the study was to analyze the biomechanics of taekwondo front-leg axekick. One force plates, two synchronized high-speed cameras were used to measure biomechanical parameters in each phase of the front-leg axe-kick. The results included: 1. The average reaction time and movement time were 0.423 sand 0.327 s, which respectively occupied about 56% and 44% of attack time. 2. The maximum velocity of hip, knee and ankle were 1.74 m/s, 5.25 m/s and 7.43 m/s respectively. When the kicking leg touched the target, the velocity of knee and ankle were 0.78m/s, 1.72m1s, and 4.64m1s respectively. 3. The peak vertical GRF and impulse were 0.96 SW and 77.57N-s. For decreasing the movement time, it's suggested that an athlete should increase the power and flexibility of lower extremities during the training section

    THE CALCULATION ON THE ROTATIONAL KINEMATICS ABOUT THE LONGITUDINAL AXIS OF JAVELIN BY THREE METHODS

    The motion of javelin is complicated after it is released. Itis necessary to use some skills to calculate the rotation kinematics about the longitudinal axis of javelin. In this study, the Euler angle, the Cardan angle and the screw axis methods were used to calculate these kinematic variables. Two synchronized Redlake high-speed cameras (250 Hz) and a javelin with three fixed reflective markers were used in the experiment. Generally the results by three methods were close, and all of the three methods are suitable for the calculation on these variables. In the Euler angle and Cardan angle methods, the order of rotation sequence needs to be taken account, however no similar problem occurred in screw method. The results suggested that the longitudinal axis should be set as second axis in either Euler angle or Cardan angle methods to avoid Gimbal Lock (singularity) problem

    The steady-state problem of a magnetic fluid filling a porous annulus between two cylindrical walls under the influence of a nonuniform radially outward magnetic field has been investigated. The cylindrical walls are either electrically perfectly insulated or electrically perfectly conducting. The permeability of the porous annulus increases with its radial location. The governing partial differential equations were derived carefully and closed form solutions for the profiles of the velocity component and the induced magnetic component were obtained. The effect of the strength of the externally applied magnetic field, the permeability of the porous annulus, and the conductivity of the cylindrical walls were examined through the angular velocity components, as well as the induced magnetic field

    Background. Limited scientific evidence supports the positive effects of traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) for treating dysmenorrhea. Thus, an observation period of 3 months could verify the ancient indication that TCM treatments effectively alleviate menstrual cramps in women with primary dysmenorrhea or endometriosis. Methods. A prospective, nonrandomized study (primary dysmenorrhea and endometriosis groups) was conducted in women with dysmenorrhea for more than three consecutive menstrual cycles. All patients received TCM prescriptions based on bian zheng lun zhi theory 14 days before menstruation for a period of 12 weeks. Pain intensity was evaluated using a 10-cm visual analogue scale and two validated questionnaires (the Menstrual Distress Questionnaire and the World Health Organization Quality of Life questionnaire). Results. Of the initial 70 intent-to-treat participants, the women with dysmenorrhea reported significant alleviation of cramps during menstruation after the 12-week TCM treatment. Mixed model analysis revealed that TCM prescriptions were more effective in alleviating fatigue, hot flashes, dizziness, painful breasts, excitement, and irritability in the primary dysmenorrhea group (N=36) than in the endometriosis group (N=34). Conclusion. TCM prescriptions based on syndrome differentiation theory might be a potentially viable choice for treating painful menstruation and premenstrual symptoms after ruling out endometriosis

    Backtesting VaR in consideration of the higher moments of the distribution for minimum-variance hedging portfolios

This study's objective is to examine the backtesting of VaR models that consider the higher moments of the distribution for minimumvariance hedging portfolios (MVHPs) of the stock indices and futures in the Greater China Region for both short and long hedgers. The results reveal that the best backtesting VaR for the MVHP considered both the higher moments of the MVHP distribution and the asymmetry in volatility, cross-market asymmetry in volatility, and level effects in the covariance matrix of assets in the MVHP. These empirical results provide references for investors in risk management

    Cancer may arise from dedifferentiation of mature cells or maturation-arrested stem cells. Previously we reported that definitive endoderm from which liver was derived, expressed Globo H, SSEA-3 and SSEA-4. In this study, we examined the expression of their biosynthetic enzymes, FUT1, FUT2, B3GALT5 and ST3GAL2, in 135 hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) tissues by qRT-PCR. High expression of either FUT1 or B3GALT5 was significantly associated with advanced stages and poor outcome. Kaplan Meier survival analysis showed significantly shorter relapse-free survival (RFS) for those with high expression of either FUT1 or B3GALT5 (P = 0.024 and 0.001, respectively) and shorter overall survival (OS) for those with high expression of B3GALT5 (P = 0.017). Combination of FUT1 and B3GALT5 revealed that high expression of both genes had poorer RFS and OS than the others (P < 0.001). Moreover, multivariable Cox regression analysis identified the combination of B3GALT5 and FUT1 as an independent predictor for RFS (HR: 2.370, 95% CI: 1.505-3.731, P < 0.001) and OS (HR: 2.153, 95% CI: 1.188-3.902, P = 0.012) in HCC. In addition, the presence of Globo H, SSEA-3 and SSEA-4 in some HCC tissues and their absence in normal liver was established by immunohistochemistry staining and mass spectrometric analysis

    Non-ideal optical isotropy of blue phase liquid crystal

    Since 1981, blue phase liquid crystal (BPLC) was regarded as optical isotropy and high contrast ratio (CR) should be achieved easily. However, low CR of BPLC display was reported in all literatures. Here, we show BPLC is non-ideal optical isotropy which leads to poor CR. In our report, BPLC not only revealed primary structure of double-twist cylinder and secondary structure of lattice but also revealed tertiary structure of self-alignment on electrode surface. This finding will be useful to improve CR and inspire researches in display industry and academics
