    THE IMPACT OF FIBROMYALGIA ON RESOURCE USE IN THE UK PRIMARY CARE SETTING

    Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis (IUPUI)Fibromyalgia (FMS) is a complex, chronic condition involving persistent and widespread pain of unknown origin. FMS is sometimes mistaken as psychiatric in origin; however, the precise origin and cause of FMS is unknown (Klippel et al., 1998). Worldwide prevalence rates range from 0.18-12%, with 0.18% in the United Kingdom (UK) (Hughes et al., 2006), 2% in the United States (US) (Wolfe et al., 1997), and 12% in Spain (Carmona et al., 2001). In the UK, there is debate over the existence of FMS (Bohr, 1995), and the reluctance of a general practitioner (GP) to diagnose conditions that are poorly defined (Hughes et al., 2006). Primary symptoms of FMS include generalized muscular pain, multiple tender points, sleep disruption and excessive fatigue. Additional symptoms include headaches, memory and concentration problems, dizziness, numbness/tingling, itching, fluid retention, abdominal cramps or pelvic pain and diarrhea (Hudson et al., 1992). Clearly, these symptoms may have an immense impact on daily life, limiting an individual’s functioning and emotional well-being. FMS is associated with significant societal and health care costs. Patients with FMS may repeatedly present to the general practitioner with various symptoms before a definitive diagnosis of FMS is made. As a result, general practitioners may be more likely to diagnose FMS in patients who frequently present with symptoms related to FMS, while patients who meet the diagnostic criteria but who rarely present at the practice may be missed (Ehrlich, 2003). The condition is of unknown etiology, and this, together with the lack of verifiable diagnostic criteria (i.e. lab tests), has led some to speculate that the disease does not or is at best a surrogate marker for underlying psychosocial problems. As such, the very process of diagnosing a patient with FMS may exacerbate symptoms and lead to increased dependence on health care providers (Ehrlich, 2003).     Recent publications showed that Lactic acid bacteria (LAB) are used extensively to inhibit growth of spoilage and pathogenic bacterial strains. That is being applied in food processing such as tradition fermented food or dairy, beverage and meat products. Lactic acid bacteria can produce a variety of antibacterial agents including bacteriocin, diacetyl, etc. Thus, the isolation, identification and taxonomical characterization of each new Lactobacillus sp. strain is being more and more required. However, the large number of species in the genus Lactobacillus almost have their high phenotypic and physiological similarity which easily leads to misidentification. The present study was aimed for isolation and reliable identification of Lactobacillus sp. strains from some traditional fermented foods by on the basis of phenotypic analysis and combination of PCR and sequencing of target sequences base on 16S-23S rRNA gene. Eight strains of LAB were isolated and characterized through morpholigical, physiological, biochemical and carbohydrate fermentation tests. All of them were determined as Lactobacillus sp. Moreover, the nucleotides sequences of 16S-23S rDNA of them was compared and phylogenetic analysis to those of Lactosbacillus species in GenBank and the results confirm that four strains: L1, L3, L4 and L7 belong to Lactobacillus platarum and four strains: L2, L5, L6 and L8 belong to species L. rhamnosu

    On the Effectiveness of Adversarial Samples against Ensemble Learning-based Windows PE Malware Detectors

    Recently, there has been a growing focus and interest in applying machine learning (ML) to the field of cybersecurity, particularly in malware detection and prevention. Several research works on malware analysis have been proposed, offering promising results for both academic and practical applications. In these works, the use of Generative Adversarial Networks (GANs) or Reinforcement Learning (RL) can aid malware creators in crafting metamorphic malware that evades antivirus software. In this study, we propose a mutation system to counteract ensemble learning-based detectors by combining GANs and an RL model, overcoming the limitations of the MalGAN model. Our proposed FeaGAN model is built based on MalGAN by incorporating an RL model called the Deep Q-network anti-malware Engines Attacking Framework (DQEAF). The RL model addresses three key challenges in performing adversarial attacks on Windows Portable Executable malware, including format preservation, executability preservation, and maliciousness preservation. In the FeaGAN model, ensemble learning is utilized to enhance the malware detector's evasion ability, with the generated adversarial patterns. The experimental results demonstrate that 100\% of the selected mutant samples preserve the format of executable files, while certain successes in both executability preservation and maliciousness preservation are achieved, reaching a stable success rate

    Effects of calpastain (CAST) polymorphisms on carcass and meat quality traits in Mongcai pigs

    Calpastain (CAST) activity plays a major role in muscle growth and proteolytic changes post-mortem and the CAST gene has been considered as a candidate gene for carcass and pork quality characteristics. The aim of this study was to analyze the association of two polymorphisms namely CAST_HinfI (allele A and B) and CAST_MspI (allele C and D) with carcass and meat quality traits in Mongcai, a Vietnamese indigenous pig breed. Polymerase chain reaction-restriction fragment length polymorphism (PCR-RFLP) was used to genotype the animals at these loci. Results indicate that the CAST_HinfI single nucleotide polymorphism (SNP) had a low frequency of allele A as compared to allele B, while the C and D allele distribution was almost the same for the CAST_MspI SNP. In the association analysis, significant effects on dressing percentage of carcass were detected. The CAST_HinfI locus was associated with the pH24, while the CAST_MspI position was in association with pH45 min, drip loss48 and redness color. Additional analysis showed a variation in muscle fiber type composition with higher proportion of IIx fiber in pigs with AB genotype (P < 0.05).     Nutritional status and dietary intake before hospital admission of pulmonary tuberculosis patients

    Conducting research on nutritional status and dietary intake of pulmonary tuberculosis patients is essential for developing interventions in clinical nutrition practice and treatment during hospitalization, which can improve the quality of patients life. This cross-sectional descriptive study aimed to determine nutritional status and some related factors (such as geography, occupation, educational level, economic classification, etc.) of 221 patients with pulmonary tuberculosis who were examined and treated at the Respiratory Tuberculosis Department, National Lung Hospital in July 2019–May 2020. The results showed that the risk of undernutrition: According to BMI (Body Mass Index): 45.8% of patients were malnourished, 44.2% normal and 10.0% overweight/obese. According to MUAC (Mid-Upper Arm Circumference): 60.2% of patients were malnourished, 39.8% of patients were normal. According to SGA (Subjective Global Assessment): 57.9% of patients were at risk of undernutrition, of which 40.7% were at moderate risk of undernutrition and 17.2% risk of severe undernutrition. Classification of nutritional status according to serum albumin index: 50% of patients were malnourished, the rate of undernutrition of mild, moderate and severe levels was 28.9%, 17.9% and 3.2%, respectively. Most patients eat with others and eat less than four meals a day. The average dietary energy of patients with pulmonary tuberculosis in was 1242.6 ± 46.5 Kcal and 1084 ± 57.9 Kcal, respectively. 85.52% of patients did not eat enough food, 4.07% had enough, 10.41% consumed excess energy. The ratio of energy-generating substances in the diet (Carbohydrate:Protein:Lipid) was on average 54:18:28 for males and 55:16:32 for females. Most of the study population had diets that did not meet the experimental study in terms of micronutrient content. Specifically, more than 90% do not meet the requirements for magnesium, calcium, zinc, and vitamin D. The water-soluble and fat-soluble vitamins respond poorly, only about 30–40%. Selenium is the mineral with the best response rate, above 70%. Our findings revealed that the majority of the study subjects had poor nutritional status, as evidenced by diets lacking in essential micronutrients

    TextANIMAR: Text-based 3D Animal Fine-Grained Retrieval

    3D object retrieval is an important yet challenging task, which has drawn more and more attention in recent years. While existing approaches have made strides in addressing this issue, they are often limited to restricted settings such as image and sketch queries, which are often unfriendly interactions for common users. In order to overcome these limitations, this paper presents a novel SHREC challenge track focusing on text-based fine-grained retrieval of 3D animal models. Unlike previous SHREC challenge tracks, the proposed task is considerably more challenging, requiring participants to develop innovative approaches to tackle the problem of text-based retrieval. Despite the increased difficulty, we believe that this task has the potential to drive useful applications in practice and facilitate more intuitive interactions with 3D objects. Five groups participated in our competition, submitting a total of 114 runs. While the results obtained in our competition are satisfactory, we note that the challenges presented by this task are far from being fully solved. As such, we provide insights into potential areas for future research and improvements. We believe that we can help push the boundaries of 3D object retrieval and facilitate more user-friendly interactions via vision-language technologies.Comment: arXiv admin note: text overlap with arXiv:2304.0573

    Thermoluminescence  properties of ultraviolet irradiated Y2O3:Eu3+, Gd2O3:Eu3+ and Gd2O3:Er3+ nanophosphors have been reported. The materials were synthesized by gel- combustion method with EDTA- Na2 as organic agent. This method allows production of very fine white powder at low temperature with very high efficiency. XRD has been studied to determine the structure of the prepared nano powders. The obtained materials exhibit sufficient sensibility to UV radiation and may be useful in UV light measurements
