Dapagliflozin in the Landscape of Type 2 Diabetes Management

    Get PDF
As per current statistics, India accounts for more than 74 million individuals living with diabetes. Many of these individualshave associated cardiovascular disease (CVD) and chronic kidney disease (CKD) comorbidities. Optimal glycemic managementis important because uncontrolled glycemia may accelerate the macrovascular and microvascular complications, furtheraggravating the comorbid conditions. Metformin is used as the first-line therapy in most persons. However, there are somewho do not tolerate metformin, are unable to achieve required glycemic targets or require greater efforts for cardiovascular(CV) risk reduction. These patients require an alternative hypoglycemic agent to be used as either monotherapy or ascombination treatment with metformin, respectively. Sodium-glucose cotransporter-2 (SGLT2) inhibitors are one such novelclass of drugs that can be used as either monotherapy or as part of two drug (dual) or three drug (triple) combinations withother oral hypoglycemic agents or insulin. Dapagliflozin is a promising option for managing type 2 diabetes with CV andrenal benefits, weight and blood pressure reducing properties. A low risk of hypoglycemia and drug-drug interactions are theadded advantages. In this article, the authors have reviewed the existing clinical evidences on dapagliflozin and highlightedits place in the diabetes management landscape

Plasma Generator for Testing Vacuum Integrity of Evacuated Vials

This paper presents the Experimental Study of Plasma Generation which is used for ensuring quality of Evacuated Vials (Vacuum vials), using an electronic circuitry making it safe and much more economically feasible. Evacuated vials are widely used in Pharmaceutical Industries. Reliable test of the batches of Evacuated Vial must be done before dispatching these for the use of customer. There can be problems involved in checking of these vials, as the conventional devices are either unsafe or expensive. There are numerous methods for Generation of Plasma, among which our experimental study is based on RF Corona Discharge method for achieving Experimental Output. In this demonstration evacuated vials have being exposed to high frequency high voltage which creates a large Electric Field. Due to this field electron-positron pairs are produced in vacuum thus making it electrically conductive. Due to phenomenon of Corona Discharge a Violet Spark is observed in the vial, this violet spark is only the plasma. This demonstration can be used to confirm presence of sufficient amount of vacuum in the vial

    Papilliferous Keratoameloblastoma: Systematic review

Papilliferous keratoameloblastoma (PKA) is a rare entity, and not much is known about its clinicodemographic features or biological nature. This review aimed to provide clarity regarding the characterisation of the demographic, clinical, radiological and histopathological features of PKA. Case reports of PKA were identified through a systematic search across multiple databases. The search yielded a total of 10 cases, half of which were of Indian origin. All the cases invariably occurred in the mandibular posterior region and involved the right side; only one case primarily involved the left side of the mandible. PKA should be considered a variant of the conventional ameloblastoma that is towards the more aggressive end of the spectrum. It tends to occur in older individuals (in their fifth decade or older), with a marked propensity to occur in the right mandibular posterior region. Surgical resection with diligent follow-up is warranted in the treatment of PKA. Keywords: Odontogenic Tumors; Ameloblastoma; Keratin; Odontogenic Keratocyst

    City Profile: Hyderabad

The report documents the urban transformation of Hyderabad, from its founding in the sixteenth century to its present day positioning as a global centre, especially for Information Technology (IT)- and Life Sciences-based industries. Locating the city’s contemporary experience of climate in this history is important. While the city has been a key cultural and economic centre since its founding, its transformation into a global centre has dramatically altered the city’s spatial and demographic characteristics, and the texture of its built environment. Such transformations have profound implications for how heat is experienced and responded to in the city

Design of the Compact Ultra-Wideband (UWB) Antenna Bandwidth Optimization Using Particle Swarm Optimization Algorithm

    No full text
In this paper a particle swarm optimization (PSO) algorithm is presented to design a compact stepped triangle shape antenna in order to obtain the proper UWB bandwidth as defined by FCC. By changing the various cavity dimensions of the antenna, data to develop PSO program in MATLAB is achieved. The results obtained from the PSO algorithm are applied to the antenna design to fine-tune the bandwidth. Bandwidth optimization for ultra-wideband frequency of 3.1 GHz to 10.6 GHz is achieved by applying PSO algorithm. High-Frequency Structure Simulator (HFSS) software tool is used for the simulation. An optimized antenna is fabricated, tested and test results are found in accordance with simulation results
