Mechanism for nonequilibrium symmetry breaking and pattern formation in magnetic films
Magnetic thin films exhibit a strong variation in properties depending on
their degree of disorder. Recent coherent x-ray speckle experiments on magnetic
films have measured the loss of correlation between configurations at opposite
fields and at the same field, upon repeated field cycling. We perform finite
temperature numerical simulations on these systems that provide a comprehensive
explanation for the experimental results. The simulations demonstrate, in
accordance with experiments, that the memory of configurations increases with
film disorder. We find that non-trivial microscopic differences exist between
the zero field spin configuration obtained by starting from a large positive
field and the zero field configuration starting at a large negative field. This
seemingly paradoxical beahvior is due to the nature of the vector spin dynamics
and is also seen in the experiments. For low disorder, there is an instability
which causes the spontaneous growth of line-like domains at a critical field,
also in accord with experiments. It is this unstable growth, which is highly
sensitive to thermal noise, that is responsible for the small correlation
between patterns under repeated cycling. The domain patterns, hysteresis loops,
and memory properties of our simulated systems match remarkably well with the

Local Temperature and Universal Heat Conduction in FPU chains
It is shown numerically that for Fermi Pasta Ulam (FPU) chains with
alternating masses and heat baths at slightly different temperatures at the
ends, the local temperature (LT) on small scales behaves paradoxically in
steady state. This expands the long established problem of equilibration of FPU
chains. A well-behaved LT appears to be achieved for equal mass chains; the
thermal conductivity is shown to diverge with chain length N as N^(1/3),
relevant for the much debated question of the universality of one dimensional
heat conduction. The reason why earlier simulations have obtained

Solvent-free electrospinning of liquid polybutadienes and their in-situ photocuring
A single-step approach to rapidly convert low molecular weight polybutadienes into fine rubber crosslinked fibers and nonwoven mats without using any heat or solvent was described. This environmentally friendly method consisted in the electrospinning at room temperature of liquid polybutadiene and polybutadiene-graft-maleic anhydride polymers without any solvent; the flying jet was irradiated to trigger the in-situ curing of the forming fibers at ambient conditions, obtaining a good control over the fibrous morphology and enhancing the performance of the membranes. The kinetics of the photo-crosslinking reaction was studied through FT-IR spectroscopy. Liquid polybutadiene-graft-maleic anhydride polymers demonstrated a faster rate of photocuring, compared to neat polybutadienes. In order to further speed up the reaction, a thiol-based crosslinker and a photoinitiator were introduced into the formulations. The photo-induced crosslinking was more efficient as different reactions concomitantly took place: besides the thiol-ene crosslinking involving the multifunctional thiol crosslinker, the oxidation of the polybutadiene chains and the esterification of the maleic anhydride moieties occurred. Moreover, a polar additive was used to control the electrospinning process by lowering the viscosity and increasing the electrical conductivity. The structural, thermal and surface properties of the fabricated polybutadiene-based electrospun membranes were assessed. The membranes exhibited an excellent morphology stability, high insolubility, good thermal properties and a pronounced hydrophobic character
What do we know about the diets of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples in Australia? A systematic literature review.
OBJECTIVE: To provide an overview of published research on the dietary intake of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. METHODS: Peer-reviewed literature from 1990 to October 2016 was searched to identify studies that measured the dietary intake of Australian Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander populations. Study quality was assessed using a purposely devised quality appraisal tool. Meta-analysis was not possible due to the heterogeneity in dietary intake assessment methods. A narrative synthesis of study findings, where key themes were compared and contrasted was completed. RESULTS: Twenty-five articles from twenty studies with outcome measures related to dietary intake were included. Dietary intake was assessed by electronic store sales, store turnover method, 24-hour dietary recall, food frequency questionnaire and short questions. Consistent findings were low reported intakes of fruit and vegetables and high intakes of total sugar and energy-dense, nutrient-poor food and beverages. CONCLUSIONS: While differences between studies and study quality limit the generalisability of the findings, most studies suggest that the diets of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples are inadequate. Implications for public health: A more concerted approach to understanding dietary patterns of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples is required to inform policy and practice to improve diet and nutrition
Required flows for aquatic ecosystems in Ma River, Vietnam
Ecological flow requirements for the Ma River in dry season were assessed in three reaches of Ma – Buoi, Ma – Len and Ma – Chu. 5 indictor fish species was chosen based on biodiversity survey and roles of those species in aquatic ecosystem as well as local communities. Biological and hydrological data (dry season of 2016- 2017) and 35 year recorded hydrological data were collected and analyzed as input data for a physical habitat model River HYdraulic and HABitat SImulation Model – RHYHABSIM. Model results shown that the optimal flows of the reaches were very much higher compare with the minimum annual low flow - MALF. In this study, MALF7day were applied to calculate the recommended minimum flows of the three reaches. The recommended required minimum flows for Ma – Buoi, Ma – Len and Ma – Chu reaches were 51 m3/s, 49 m3/s and 61 m3/s, respectively. It must be stressed that this study only assessed whether or not there is enough habitat available for the river to sustain a healthy ecosystem
