Anomalous change in leakage and displacement currents after electrical poling on lead-free ferroelectric ceramics
We report the polarization, displacement current and leakage current behavior
of a trivalent nonpolar cation Al cation substituted lead free ferroelectric
NBT-BT electroceramics with tetragonal phase and P4mm space group symmetry.
Nearly three orders of magnitude decrease in leakage current were observed
under electrical poling, which significantly improves microstructure,
polarization, and displacement current. Effective poling neutralizes the domain
pinning, traps charges at grain boundaries and fills oxygen vacancies with free
charge carriers in matrix, thus saturated macroscopic polarization in contrast
to that in upoled samples. E-poling changes bananas type polarization loops to
real ferroelectric loops.Comment: 18 pages, 5 figure
Shifting boundaries between the normal and the pathological:the case of mild intellectual disability
When disorders fade into normality, how can the threshold between normality and disorder be determined? In considering mild intellectual disability, I argue that economic factors partly determine thresholds. We tend to assume that the relationship between disorder, need and services is such that: first, a cut-off point between the disordered and the normal is determined; second, a needy population is identified; and third, resources are found (or at least should be found) to meet this need. However, the changing definitions of intellectual disability can best be understood if we think of this happening in reverse. That is, first, certain resources are thought obtainable, and then a cut-off point for disorder is selected which supplies an appropriately sized âneedy populationâ
On the potential variation in the gramicidin channel.
A simple model for the gramicidin ion pore is analyzed in which the potential energy of the ion in the pore can be resolved into three parts: a series of equal potential barriers, the contribution from the applied potential, and a parabolic variation leading to either a potential maximum or a potential minimum at the center of the membrane. For low ion concentrations, the particular case corresponding to a potential minima 2kT below the surface potential predicts experimentally observed behavior
