    While the language of positive psychology can be universal, there is a language that organizations gravitate towards and find both engaging and effectual. Organizations speak in terms of behavioral competence when recruiting, assessing performance, measuring results, creating development plans and administering performance appraisals. The current positive psychology canon of self-assessment surveys does not include one that relates to behavioral strengths. We suggest such an assessment, and produce evidence to establish its rightful place. Peterson and Seligman’s Character Strengths and Values (2004) can be operationalized to align with the heuristics of for-profit organizations by connecting the two. We combine positive psychology concepts and scientific research with a proven operational methodology, the Lifo Orientations (Lifo®) Method – to produce Strengths Technology, a more pragmatic strengths-based framework. This proposed framework is comprised of two components, 1) identification of the behaviors that are the expression of VIA Character Strengths and 2) the Strengths Technology Matrix, which outlines 12 strength development strategies. Strengths Technology is a more practical and usable strengths-based framework that will help individuals, teams and organizations discover, capitalize on, and increase their strengths

    Improvements on the performance of subcarrier multiplexing/wavelength division multiplexing based radio over fiber system

    Radio over fiber (RoF) techniques are good candidates to create the backbone of the next generation of wireless networks. Many parameters affect RoF communications such as amplified spontaneous emission noise (ASE), four-wave mixing nonlinearity (FWM), the modulation, channel spacing, switching voltage, and phase shifter. In this paper, we propose an improved model of RoF communication systems using subcarrier multiplexing/wavelength division multiplexing (SCM/WDM) technique with unequal channel spacing and 1-km Erbium-doped fiber amplifier (EDFA). Simulation results confirmed that we could obtain the lowest bit error rate and noises when the EDFA is placed at 1 km from the transmitter by using optical single-sideband (OSSB) modulation at frequencies 193.1 THz, 193.2 THz, 193.35 THz, and 193.6 THz

    LIFER 2.0: discovering personal lifelog insights using an interactive lifelog retrieval system

    This paper describes the participation of the Organiser Team in the ImageCLEFlifelog 2019 Solve My Life Puzzle (Puzzle) and Lifelog Moment Retrieval (LMRT) tasks. We proposed to use LIFER 2.0, an enhanced version of LIFER, which was an interactive retrieval system for personal lifelog data. We utilised LIFER 2.0 with some additional visual features, obtained by using traditional visual bag-of-words, to solve the Puzzle task, while with the LMRT, we applied LIFER 2.0 only with the provided information. The results on both tasks confirmed that by using faceted filter and context browsing, a user can gain insights from their personal lifelog by employing very simple interactions. These results also serve as baselines for other approaches in the ImageCLEFlifelog 2019 challenge to compare with

    A hierarchical architecture for increasing efficiency of large photovoltaic plants under non-homogeneous solar irradiation

    Under non-homogeneous solar irradiation, photovoltaic (PV) panels receive different solar irradiance, resulting in a decrease in efficiency of the PV generation system. There are a few technical options to fix this issue that goes under the name of mismatch. One of these is the reconfiguration of the PV generation system, namely changing the connections of the PV panels from the initial configuration to the optimal one. Such technique has been widely considered for small systems, due to the excessive number of required switches. In this paper, the authors propose a new method for increasing the efficiency of large PV systems under non-homogeneous solar irradiation using Series-Parallel (SP) topology. In the first part of the paper, the authors propose a method containing two key points: a switching matrix to change the connection of PV panels based on SP topology and the proof that the SP-based reconfiguration method can increase the efficiency of the photovoltaic system up to 50%. In the second part, the authors propose the extension of the method proposed in the first part to improve the efficiency of large solar generation systems by means of a two-levels architecture to minimize the cost of fabrication of the switching matrix

    CAMELLIA HOABINHENSIS (THEACEAE: SECT. CHRYSANTHA), A NEW YELLOW-FLOWERED SPECIES FROM NORTHERN VIETNAM

    A new species, Camellia hoabinhensis (section Chrysantha, Theaceae), is described and illustrated based on specimens collected from a lowland forest on limestone hills in Hoa Binh Province, northern Vietnam. The species is characterized by its small habit to 4.5 m tall, large flowers 9.0–9.5 cm in diameter with 18–19 light yellow petals, and hairy filaments, ovaries, and styles. A comparison of the new species with similar species, C. euphlebia, C. impressinervis, C. phanii, and C. velutina, is provided. The IUCN conservation status of the proposed species is Data Deficient (DD)
