Post Sockets: Towards an Evolvable Network Transport Interface
The traditional Sockets API is showing its age, and no longer provides effective support for modern networked applications. This has led to a proliferation of non-standard extensions, alternative APIs, and workarounds that enable new features and allow applications to make good use of the network, but are difficult to use, and require expert knowledge that is not widespread. In this paper, we present Post Sockets, a proposed new standard network API, that is designed to support modern network transport protocols and features, while raising the level of abstraction and enhancing usability. Specifically, Post Sockets aims to give portable applications the ability to use a clear, messages based, interface to multi-path and multi-stream transports, rendezvous and connection racing, and fast connection re-establishment

Assessment of Hydration Knowledge, Attitude, Behaviors and Fluid Replacement Effectiveness of Collegiate Athletes.
The purpose of this study was to determine if there was any significant correlation between an athletes\u27 knowledge, attitude, and behavior in regards to hydration and how well they maintained their level during preseason training. 74 athletes completed surveys that measured their knowledge, attitude, and behavior in regards to hydration. 59 athletes allowed monitoring of their hydration status via weight charts. Significant differences in knowledge and behavior scores were found between demographic variables such as class year, training intensity, and team. There were no significant correlations discovered between any of the survey scores and the data from the weight charts. Hydration is an important aspect of nutrition, and should not be overlooked by anyone especially athletes. By continued education, and better monitoring of hydration status future problems with dehydration may be avoided

Quality of Life after Heart Transplantation
Background: Cardiac transplantation has been a treatment option for patients with end stage heart failure for the past 35 years. As evaluation and treatment protocols emerge and evolve it is the responsibility of the healthcare provider to assist the recipient in attaining the best quality of life (QOL) possible. Method: A demographic survey, along with the SF-36v2 generic survey, which measures quality of life in physical and functioning domains, was mailed to 100 heart transplant recipients in a large health plan in Northern California. The data from sixty five surveys were analyzed for any relationships between time from transplantation, employment status, expectations of transplantation and the SF-36v2 scores. General comparison to U.S. norms for the SF-36 was also performed. Results: Lower physical functioning scores were noted among participants that were not able to find work, had longer time from transplant and higher expectations. Mental health scores only achieved statistical significance in the category of recipient expectations (F\u3c.OOOl). The physical component was the domain that was affected most by transplantation. Conclusion: Interventions, such as lifestyle management, that target improved long-term outcomes may improve this area of transplantation
