    Deforming black holes with even multipolar differential rotation boundary

    Motivated by the novel asymptotically global AdS4_4 solutions with deforming horizon in [JHEP {\bf 1802}, 060 (2018)], we analyze the boundary metric with even multipolar differential rotation and numerically construct a family of deforming solutions with quadrupolar differential rotation boundary, including two classes of solutions: solitons and black holes. In contrast to solutions with dipolar differential rotation boundary, we find that even though the norm of Killing vector ∂t\partial_t becomes spacelike for certain regions of polar angle θ\theta when ε>2\varepsilon>2, solitons and black holes with quadrupolar differential rotation still exist and do not develop hair due to superradiance. Moreover, at the same temperature, the horizonal deformation of quadrupolar rotation is smaller than that of dipolar rotation. Furthermore, we also study the entropy and quasinormal modes of the solutions, which have the analogous properties to that of dipolar rotation.Comment: 18 pages, 21 figure

    Coupled ocean-atmosphere dynamics of the 2017 extreme coastal El Niño.

    In March 2017, sea surface temperatures off Peru rose above 28 °C, causing torrential rains that affected the lives of millions of people. This coastal warming is highly unusual in that it took place with a weak La Niña state. Observations and ocean model experiments show that the downwelling Kelvin waves caused by strong westerly wind events over the equatorial Pacific, together with anomalous northerly coastal winds, are important. Atmospheric model experiments further show the anomalous coastal winds are forced by the coastal warming. Taken together, these results indicate a positive feedback off Peru between the coastal warming, atmospheric deep convection, and the coastal winds. These coupled processes provide predictability. Indeed, initialized on as early as 1 February 2017, seasonal prediction models captured the extreme rainfall event. Climate model projections indicate that the frequency of extreme coastal El Niño will increase under global warming

    Interpretable Sequence Classification Via Prototype Trajectory

    We propose a novel interpretable recurrent neural network (RNN) model, called ProtoryNet, in which we introduce a new concept of prototype trajectories. Motivated by the prototype theory in modern linguistics, ProtoryNet makes a prediction by finding the most similar prototype for each sentence in a text sequence and feeding an RNN backbone with the proximity of each of the sentences to the prototypes. The RNN backbone then captures the temporal pattern of the prototypes, to which we refer as prototype trajectories. The prototype trajectories enable intuitive, fine-grained interpretation of how the model reached to the final prediction, resembling the process of how humans analyze paragraphs. Experiments conducted on multiple public data sets reveal that the proposed method not only is more interpretable but also is more accurate than the current state-of-the-art prototype-based method. Furthermore, we report a survey result indicating that human users find ProtoryNet more intuitive and easier to understand, compared to the other prototype-based methods

    Deforming charged black holes with dipolar differential rotation boundary

    Motivated by the recent studies of the novel asymptotically global AdS4_4 black hole with deforming horizon, we consider the action of Einstein-Maxwell gravity in AdS spacetime and construct the charged deforming AdS black holes with differential boundary. In contrast to deforming black hole without charge, there exists at least one value of horizon for an arbitrary temperature. The extremum of temperature is determined by charge qq and divides the range of temperature into several parts. Moreover, we use an isometric embedding in the three-dimensional space to investigate the horizon geometry. We also study the entropy and quasinormal modes of deforming charged AdS black hole. It is interesting to find there exist two families of black hole solutions with different horizon radius for a fixed temperature, but these two black holes have same horizon geometry and entropy. Due to the existence of charge qq, the phase diagram of entropy is more complicated.Comment: 19 pages, 9 figure

    Design and fabrication of robust broadband extreme ultraviolet multilayers

    The random layer thickness variations can induce a great deformation of the experimental reflection of broadband extreme ultraviolet multilayer. In order to reduce this influence of random layer thickness fluctuations, the multiobjective genetic algorithm has been improved and used in the robust design of multilayer with a broad angular bandpass. The robust multilayer with a lower sensitivity to random thickness errors have been obtained and the corresponding multilayer mirrors were fabricated. The experimental results of robust Mo/Si multilayer with a wide angular band were presented and analyzed, and the advantage of robust multilayer design was demonstrated

    Weak cosmic censorship in Born-Infeld electrodynamics and bound on charge-to-mass ratio

    We construct a class of counterexamples to cosmic censorship in four dimensional Einstein-Born-Infeld theory with asymptotically anti-de Sitter boundary conditions, and investigate the effect of the Born-Infeld parameter bb in comparison with the counterpart of Einstein-Maxwell theory. When a charged massive scalar field is included into the action, we find that this class of counterexamples to cosmic censorship would be removed if the charge of scalar fields is above the minimum value of charge qminq_{min}. In particular, the minimum value of charge required to preserve cosmic censorship increases with the increasing of Born-Infeld parameter. Meanwhile, we also show the lower bounds on charge-to-mass ratio with the different values of Born-Infeld parameter.Comment: 14 pages, 9 figure
